soooo i watched the rekha version just to see what the fuss was all about and i thought rekha and aish did equally good jobs, the interpretations were different so u can't really compare but i liked them both
@thalialuvmx I agree the interpretations were different but they are trying to represent a certain era. Unfortunately the research was not done by all, her cleavage showing (big no-no even for a courtesan), no hip movements (considered vulgar in that era plus dont exist in kathak- Nawabs came to courtesan's to learn etiquette), many other things that were present in the movie that were historically incorrect as they didn't even exist at the time. Plus she's supposed to be a tortured soul.
well she might not be trained in kathak..i think she did kuchipudi or bharatanatyam. its not fair to say that she's not good, when she probably learned this dance in a short period of time.
but of course there are going to be much better dancers that aren't on screen. :) I think Aishwarya's dance is quite beautiful (but I've never done kathak, only bharatanatyam so I wouldn't know)

I always wondered why this song just didn't seem right. Now looking at it i realize that some of the choreography is totally off and the facial expressions are off also. She looks like she is trying a little hard. Then again the whole movie is like that. No wonder Saroj Khan backed out.
