hey, nice to see you love the chieftains music, do you have this album? or you have this concert of them? I really want to get this, but it's very expensive on amazon. thanks.
@cc4j13 There is a video "The Chieftains in China", but i think is no so easy to found. Search in YouTube : Beijing Classical Music Ensemble, playing the same song.Sorry for my bad english.
I bought a copy of the video of the Chieftains visiting China many years ago and the music is beautiful I also enjoyed the performances of teh Chinese musicians. There are some very interesting looking instruments that I do not know the name that they are called.
I love their version of this tune, which can also be seen in the great documentary film "The Chieftains in China."
To make this video easier to find for Chinese speakers, you might wish to add the Chinese name of this song to the video description: 喜洋洋 (Yi Yang Yang).
Just saw this on a special about the Chieftains on PBS. Very glad to see such a blend b/w Chinese and Irish music. However, as a Chinese speaker, I have to correct the pronunciation. The first character 喜 is not written as "yi" in English, but rather as "xi." It does have a connotation of "joy" however.
There is a great version of this song on the Guo Brothers record they did for Real World Records.

Correct, I made a typo in my post. The title should be "Xi Yang Yang," not "Yi Yang Yang."
