@kmainstrain looking good. your platform looks a bit shaky. try putting a bag of catfood on top of it or something about that size to keep it from vibrating.
@mishakiler Lord no. I just was always fascinated with the speed bag and wanted to try it. Once I got one, I wanted to learn more and more techniques. I also found later on that it helped my forearms, elbows and shoulders as a warm-up prior to lifting.
I've been practicing this for a long time now and i can do the machine gun method and the rocky method how you were when you first demonstrated it, but how long and much training did it take you to get as fast as you were at 4:29?
@AirstrikeGaming actually the speed bag works for hand eye coordination and stamina though it helps the speed of your punches a bit it is not much the main reason for use is what I said before heavier gloves work on speed if you wear an 16 ounce glove for 1 month than you switch to a 12 ounce your hands will be like lightning
I think the video is excellent if you're a beginner and you really want to learn how to train on speed bag. Its one of the best ive seen yet. nice job.....
Actually the machine gun technique does improve hand and eye coordination many pro's today use it Shane Moseley, Floyd Mayweather etc ive watched these guys train many times Ive been boxing for about 16 years now and i can tell you its really helped me a great deal. There really is no right or wrong way to strike the bag in terms of style...As long as you're able to control the bag with the proper timing and you are able to sustain a repetitious range of motion you're doing the job.
the bag is suppose to be at nose level this bag in the video is too low and makes it easier and produces bag technique because it makes you punch down instead of straight, speed bags are for defense and symbolize a punch to be blocked and build hand eye coordination, you also want to be further away because you want to block at the farthest distance possible
@msfattytrollbitch - You are probably right. I screwed when I hung it. Its too low and I have to screw up my neck to hit it (leaning head back). As far as those functional benefits with blocking punches and such, it never crossed my mind as my only reasons for hitting the bag originally were to do the various strikes from different angles, and now that I know how well it works, the health of the musculature and tendons near the elbow. Thanks for the input though. It should help some people.
@craik62 - I do it because it is extremely challenging at first and fun once you are done. The only two true physical reasons for me to do it are for a shoulder / elbow / forearm warm-up and also to reduce the chance of getting epicondylitis, inflammation in the elbow area.
I do not box or fight MMA. I am nto even sure these techniques would help much with those sports beyond stamina in the shoulders and some hand-eye coordination. Obviously it is good for something because boxers do it...
@gtmodelt - I don't really see how this video and that one compare. Mine is an instructional video and his is him hitting to music???? That's fine if you prefer his, no problem, I just don't see how they compare/contrast?
@bye5225 - I am not sure the machine gun style is great for actual boxers as much as it is a beginning point for people interested in learning advanced striking techniques on the bag, so I am leaning toward show. I have also never seen a pro boxer hitting the bag with the machine gun technique, which makes me believe in it even less...
@JeddJohnson ya i am working on it i i almost have it working just got my bag last month so thanx for the vid bro and if u can plz keep giving us some tips ; )
@lilogboy14 - I will indeed do that. Make sure to subscribe. The only thing is right now my bag platform is down because I had to move it when we remodeled and I have not made the time to get it back up. I need to do that because I am stronger when I am doing a lot of baggin'.
@mike102673 - It just takes practice. Start out with one goal technique and try to get good at it with one hand. Then try to master it with the other hand. Then try to mix them back and forth. Before you know it, the feat will be child's play and you will be moving onto something else. That is how I did it. Keep on chugging away!
@TheD1V1N1TY - You should definitely get one. I love mine. I had to take it down several months ago and I have missed it ever since. Great warm-up for strength training.
@ak47bustagrill - I don't think I was referring to a straight punch, but rather a controlled contact and being able to predict the path from the hand, to the board and straight back to the hand. What part of the video are you talking about and maybe I can describe myself better.
hey bro nice job.. but i need some help iv never used a speed bag.. and i am gonna buy me one im just now starting to get into boxing exersizes. but i cant find a good bag, i saw 2 or 3 different kind at walmart. but people who bought the items sead that the bags tore down the seams. i need a real good speed bag for beginners and that wont rip or tear..
i've been hitting the bag for almost a year now (not often I might add) and I really like the way you explain it.
I've also had the chance to try several Speedbags, started with the leather elite size Large from Everlast, then moved to that XS like the one you got... now I'm loving my Cleto Reyes Speedbag XS... it's really smooth on the edges of the leather, countrary to the Everlast which has long thick edges you can feel on your knuckles.
@PACHEAT13 I disagree that it is useless. I've gotten much benefit from hitting the bag this way, especially along the lines of shoulder warm-up and health, as well as reduction in forearm pain and elbow pain. It is a good way to get upper body training in, and promotes hand eye coordination and timing.
@1LifeToGo It's hard to compare two different platforms, but that could be it. Another reason could have to do with the fact that the bag I am using is very old and very beat up. Plus, I am not really hitting that hard because these are more control techniques than speed techniques and I do not have to hit it very hard to keep it moving.
alright , i have a speed ball buh it seems the faster i go the ball dies of speed what does this means , also my platform rocks is my bag to heavy or sumet get bk to me thanks
@ingoe4life It's probably something to do with how your bag is rigged. If they are not rigged nice and tight it can vibrate quite a bit. Mine is home made and has like no vibration at all because of the way I built it.
Cool, my friend. That is the exact goal I was shooting for. Have you started hitting the bag yet? If so, awesome. If not, all the best when you start.
@JeddJohnson I have a bag in my garage and use it often. I sometimes go in there to hit it even when I'm not working out, just to burn off a little of the days stress. Anyway, I sent the link for your video to my brother who lives across country, because I felt it was the best available on youtube to get him started. I was right, he's doing well. Thanks again!
i just put mine up and your lucky you can see were the boards go my basement have like dry wall on the celing so it was for me to install it good video
Yeah that part of the basement is unfinished so it was no problem. I wouldn't have any idea how to find the rafters if they had the dry wall on them...
You can hit that bag pretty good man nice work. Although i gotta say ROCKY! is a beast at the speed bag, if you've seen the movies he hits that shit 20x faster and 20x harder
