He should be considered a standard by which to judge other male baroque dansers. The bravura, stance, posture, intricate movements, power in combination with his refined performace I have yet to find an equal to. He indeed becomes the young Apollo, inspiring awe to his 17th century audience with his otherworldly grace.

yes baroque dance is really the precursor

to ballet all the steps are codified in the early 17th and have been improved during all the 18th century till the 19th century

I'm curious - was Baroque dance of this sort the precursor to ballet? It certainly looks like it. Beautifully done. Amazing how dance and music can convey a sense of power of monarch and state.

These baroque dance clips are awesome!! Thank you for sharing these. I have a question for you.....Do you know how detailed the original manuscripts were? Do the dancers have to "fill in" gaps or improvise much ??Again, thanks for sharing these.

You're very welcome! The original manuscripts described very precise steps; the arm movements were 'improvised' according to certain codes of use of that period. Perhaps it would be instructive to post a video explaining the use of the original diagrams. They are fascinating!
