  • heyy:)) Nirvana it's with "N" not "n":))

  • Thanks to this music, I can proudly say I was born in the 90's. I really feel bad for the kids nowadays, and you all know why! Damn Justin Shitter...

  • 1:04 what is that sound in the background?

  • QUAK QUAK !

  • lead belly invented grundge... in the 30s =)

  • by the way if u went back to the 80s or 90s and said lets listen to justin beiber htey would say who the fuck is that.. you would put it on and they would say... turn that fucking little girl off. lets listen to nirvana, led zeplin, or judas priest...

  • @littlebirdy9 Or to Michael Jackson or to Prince. There was other good music back then, too, not just rock. Not that I don't like rock the best, but I m just saying. Today's disco music is shit but then, disco music was nice and cool, too. :)

  • beiberjustinl apparently doesnt no real music so he has to bitch about it like a fucking dick whore... listen to some real music and not justin befagot.. so leave

  • @littlebirdy9 It's a wonder how you passed second grade.

  • JUST ANOTHER SHITTY COVER BY NERDVANA

  • @BieberJustinl That was a trolling attempt, am I right?

  • @BieberJustinl proud of being a nerdvana fan.. you excuse for a person :)

  • Nice

  • Leadbelly IN YOUR FACE !

  • Is this actually Nirvana, or Kurt's side project , "The Jury", that played specifically Leadbelly covers?

  • @Zer0Bushi It is The Jury. They recorded four Leadbelly songs: Grey Goose, Ain't It a Shame, Where Did You Sleep Last Night, and They Hung Him on a Cross (Kurt solo).

  • Nirvana + Leadbelly = Pure fucking Gold.

  • Yeah NIrvana did ALOT of Leadbelley covers which in my opinion is badass

  • hoo-rah for Leadbelly covers!

  • I don't really know Lead Belly, but THIS IS HUGE !

  • This is awesome. Rock bands back in the 60s through 90s looked up to the old blues guys unlike most modern shit now.

  • @RetroJenny Quite a lot of old bands were utter shite too. Just that people tend not to remember them....y'know....'cause they're shite. There's always good music around. Good music can't be defined by decades.

  • leadbelly loves u :)

  • its pretty mind blowing that a grunge band like nirvana did covers of old lead belly blues songs and made them with such an original grunge sound especially the track "where did you sleep last night"

  • No. Leadbelly is a legend !

  • this is an excellent tribute. and contrary to many idiot comments this is very clearly gray goose. lawd lawd lawd.

  • without the lyrics it sounds almost like a ZZ Top

  • It is like Black Sabbath

  • Happy Birthday KURT!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i want gray goose vodka

  • the vid is really cool

  • damn.... I had to wait 16+ years (maaan, it's all been like yesterday) to discover this song.... and I thought I've heard 'e, all.... Hehe, gr8 job loserjanete!

  • Feeling it :)

  • @AironlikesApplesAuse YOU ARE THINKING OF THE BAND SLEEP, MORE SPECIFICALLY.

  • @AironlikesApplesAuse This is blues. Not metal.

  • @steven8807 NO THIS IS GRUNGE INFLUENCED BY STONER METAL SUCH AS SLEEP.

  • @xraydelta1 Sleep was very influenced by Black Sabbath, as was Nirvana. Kurt Cobain was also very much into the blues (Leadbelly, to be precise).

Either way, all the bands mentioned here are FREAKIN' AWESOME!

  • c'est magnifique

  • Can anyone else hear another song playing in the background around 1.05? Sounds like a woman singing.

  • @moali123451 yes there really is another song in the background about 1.04 and I hear drums about 1.11 1.12

  • @moali123451 and about 36

  • So, who all played at this session?

  • @rattlehead00 Me.

  • I like that raw saound

  • Its making me wanna get some smack....just kidding kids, I meant Sugar Smacks...

  • damn good. listen on 10.

  • @slumsofmecca but this one goes to 11....

  • lol 0:53

  • Listen to Krist's bass playing on this song! Pretty fucking cool!

  • kurt *.*

  • Why in the first photo appears Pat? Pat's not from Nirvana LOL

  • @Iroger pat smear is a damn good member. he masted cobain's playing style, as seen in the in utero tour. plus he was a punk god of the germs back in the late 70's

  • @Iroger

Pat Smeer joined Nirvana officially pretty late on. He was an extra guitarist for live shows in 93 and more or less became the new guitarist by the end of 93/early 94

  • slows time down.

  • I love 1:33......of course Dave would be naked in the bath, and they'd come to hang out with him. Nothing new there. XD

  • Nirvana is my favourite band and will be my favourite band until I'll die.

  • @kasiulkavege

Me too, Nirvana f***ing rocks !!!!

  • I suppose this is what first came to kurts mind when he listened to leadbellys grey goose

  • This is a crazy jam for a 3-chord band.

  • i think it was based on lead bellys song but more of what nirvana felt about his song? who knows what theres skag addicts were thinking :P

  • they hsould of played this live.

  • out of 82,116 people, 9 didnt enjoy this? wtf!!!!???

  • @JSFER2 theyre idiots i suppose

  • amazing cover

  • didnt they use this song for grey goose vodka

  • Time to go buy Kurt Cobain glasses

  • The clip is just awesome..

    Awesome guitar..

    Awesome pics

    And Awesome mixed up

    :)

  • Kurt was a huge Lead Belly fan <3

  • One American original meets another national treasure at juncture in time before the sum of American music wasn't considered shit. Thanks.

  • it sounds so.. right !

  • a lil history. kurt; huge lead belly fan. so was mark l. of screeming trees. they got together with the idea of starting a side project with one another. it turned into them just covering lead belly songs. some of the songs from that session made it onto tha box set.

  • hammer

  • never heard this before... it's beautiful.

  • I absolutely love this song and the fact that it is and instrumental I really like nirvana's covers of ledbelly oh and if you listen closely there is random music or singing some sort of talking like from a t.v. in this song!!!!!!!!

  • No...

Kurt was recording over a tape...

I read about it somewhere else but yeah. That's why you hear music in the background.

  • this is actually kurt and krist with mark lanegan and mark pickerel from screaming trees.

  • I'm pretty sure grey goose was originally performed by the blues legend Lead Belly.

  • Correct. You can find it right here on Youtube.

  • t'was

  • @zabbazabba23 you are right my friend. Leadbelly was the first to perform this song. Kurt was very influenced by Leadbelly and his music. They did a few of leadbelly's songs. Where did you sleep for example was a Leadbelly song. Nirvana was the shit, even before dave they where the shit.

  • @zabbazabba23 I'm pretty sure you're posting stuff we know to get attention and thumbs up!

  • @zabbazabba23 yup dude...youre right

  • @zabbazabba23 The grey goose that leadbelly wrote was nothing like this, it probably just happened to have the same name. Though leadbelly was one of his favorite artist he said.

  • @zabbazabba23 yeah it was made by lead belly :p

  • @zabbazabba23 hey not to be a dick but you got the internet obviously look it up Google is free

  • @zabbazabba23 Not originally performed. Originally recorded.

  • @zabbazabba23 lead belly is a legend but a killer!

  • @zabbazabba23 I'm pretty sure the only thing this instrumental shares with Lead Belly's song is the name.

  • @stonedhobo I don't know kind of sounds like the melody a bit.

  • @countrybluesluver I agree. Listen to Leadbelly's version with The Golden Gate Quartet...just all voice, no music.

  • @steven8807 Yeah, I've heard it Lord,Lord,Lord,Lord. Can't get enough of Lead Belly wish Lomax would have just gotten him talking and bullshitting would have loved to see what he is like just hanging out. I wan't that book by Lomax too that Leadbelly helped him right negros songs or something like that. Probably some facts mixed with old timey racist bullshit in there though, but still want to hear more about Leadbelly.

  • @zabbazabba23 Nirvana covered alot of Lead Belly's songs. As they were Kurt Cobain's favourite band!

  • @martymccay331992 Lead Belly is not a band :')

  • Comment removed

  • I thought i know all nirvana songs because I've got all the studio albums, the unplugged in new york album, the sliver album and the two outtake songs sappy and you know youre right but i never heard this song before too!

  • get the " With The Lights Out " Box set, its got tuns of bonus shit uve prob never heard

  • I never hear this song before!!!

  • The only thing missing is Kurt Cobain voice but damn this is a fire jam!!

    Nirvana just that damn great!

  • this sounds a little bit like They hung him on a cross, Kurt's Leadbelly cover

  • In my opinion, probably their greatest song.

  • I was sort of thinking the same thing its a really great song first time i have ever heard it .Definitely a new personal favorite.

  • Good :)

  • but its a cover, its not theyre song.

  • I know. But, I can say it's their greatest song, because they performed it.

  • But it remains not theyre greatest song, BECAUSE it NOT theyre song. Theyre songs would be classified as a song the band created and wrote, to which this band did not create. Im also not sure which band you are talking about. I dont think you are refering to Nirvana, because this isnt Nirvana. This song comes from a cluster of different Grunge musicions from that time. They all came together to work on a Leadbelly tribute album.

  • I know all about this song. Believe me. But I'm entitled to my own opinion, and if you don't like that. Then fine.

Jimi Hendrix did a cover of All Along the Watchtower. And people celebrate that as his greatest song. But it's not his.

But, if I must conform to your idea. Then this is my favorite cover, they did.

Oh, and this is Nirvana. They performed it with some of The Screaming Trees, in '89. And, in '89, Nirvana had Krist and Kurt (Some others, but these were the constants up until '94).

  • I know your entitled to your opinion. But this is not a matter opinion AT ALL. this has nothing to do with your opinions, it is just A FACT that this is a cover. People celebrate Jimi Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower as his greatest song because they are ignorant, because they have no fucking clue what they are talking about, thats why. Also No this isnt Nirvana, this is Kurt Cobain, Krist Noveselic, and Mark Lenagen, and the Screaming Tree's drummer. As i recall, they werent Nirvana.

  • But, why does it matter. I've known it was a cover since I first heard. I got it off With the Lights Out. I just like it.

Ok, does this clear it up?

This is my favorite song, that Nirvana performed, that is not theirs...

  • Just dont refer to a cover as that artists song. Because its not in any way theyre song. Thats it!

    this could clear it up!

this is my favorite of all the covers I have heard certain members of a band called Nirvana, mixed with a band called the Screaming Trees.

    thanks muffin.........

  • lol Your welcome.

  • dylan wrote all along the watchtower

  • Excuse me? i said it was a cover, and i know it was by dylan. I was telling him it was a cover, because he didnt know.

I guess its hard to read....huh?

  • you didn't say who wrote it calm down killer

  • Why the fuck is it on me to tell people who wrote all along the fucking watchtower. Your making it this fucking duty i have to carry out.

You didnt have to respond to me for that, you just could have posted it as a comment. Instead of wasting my goddamn time.

  • all apologies

  • Nice attempt at trying to sound intelligent. When your over excessive use of WORDS made it look stupid.

  • Specify which comment you fucking moron, is that more bold then excessive for you, BITCH!!!!

  • I replied to it, Oh well... So here.

Submissivelover: I just wanted you to get worked up about nothing. It gives me great pleasure to know I can control emotion over a keyboard

  • thanks cupcake, i appreciate the abundence of time you have. I actually feel very very sorry for people like you. I problably offended you, so you resorted to some ominous intention of upsetting me. It didnt really work that well, because i dont sit down and stew about these replies. So it is whatever, you look very puffy in the face darling, try some sit-ups.....kthx....

  • lol

  • @PezoCon What? I'll argue with you too dude, because i dont give a fuck. Nah JK im just playing with you LMAO

  • lol i was laughing at ur comment.. im on ur side = P

  • you really are submissive

  • Actually...with all the arguements i get on youtube. I see i am actually not submissive at all. My name doesnt really apply to myself in any way

  • the use of the word OVER is ecxessive right there, were you trting to be ironic?

  • Good point :)

  • ? But anyways, thank you :D

  • Wish they fucking did more like this haha xD

  • haha for some reason it gives me the thought they must've been blown.

  • You suck

  • what the fuck was that voice at 1:04?! listen closely, in the background it sounds like a woman singing like " feeling my life" or something

    what/who the hell was that?

  • no lyrics that could be anybody , with cobain singing you don't know it is them

  • this is nirvana for sure its on the with the lights out box set

  • Its from a box set, Dave or Krist probably confirmed that it was them playing.

  • its actually kurt with mark lanagan, and some other people, not sure who now! it was on "with the lights out" but was originally gonna be on an e.p

  • you mean WITHOUT Cobain singing we don't know?

  • yes, i meant without, or WITHOUT, like you typed

  • well that's not very smart is it, you gotta also recognize nirvana's tone & style of playing. shame shame lassy.

  • does he sing

it's almost 2 minutes and no lyrics

    sing song ledbelly kurt

  • my main guess would be when they recorded it that there was a radio playing somewhere

  • 1:04 into the song what is that sound that almost sounds like a cell phone? but how they werent even popular, much less with music ringtones

  • Comment removed

  • they have the radio on while recording the song, or a very fucked up amp that picks up some radio waves.

  • It sounds like there was some bleed through in the walls of their recording space. If it was a cell ringtone, it was all midi back then, so it wouldnt sound like that.

  • GO BOBCATS!

  • seeing all those pictures makes me sad ):

i wish he was alive :/

  • i never heard of this song

  • Sounds like my Boss distorter

  • sounds like the sound used in black sabboth iron man dont it?

  • yeah, it does..

  • can anyone tell me how to get this wonderful distortion? I beg you, It's necessary to my happiness

  • i think that they used a Big Muff..... i could be wrong

  • does anybody know if kurt did buy led bellyies guitar for 500 000

  • no he didn't. on mtv unplugged kurts even saying, that he asked david geffen of geffen records, if he would buy that guitar for him, but geffen did not buy it. kurts dream was not fulfilled.

  • nirvana are the best

  • thought they was playing iron man from black sabbath

  • was this song post-kurt?

  • there was no post-kurt with this band

  • Stupid. Hahaha. Nirvana would not be Nirvana without Kurt.

  • pen cap chew is another great only on the box set I believe

  • oh, this brings back wonderful memories of opiates.. yes!

  • This song is so cool and laid back! It has a great groove! It's a ledbelly cover!

  • un sonido parecido a black sabbath en very nice y la bateria tambien genios

  • Fucking amazing song. Very good and classic.

  • Does anyone know a place online to buy the ' Captain America' band t-shirt Kurt and Krist wore all the time?

All google is showing me is stupid Junk Food t-shirts of the cartoon Capt America!

  • Don't think it's a band. (If so, I've never heard of them.) I think they're referring to the superhero.

  • It was a band :) A really good one!

I wish I could get a copy of that t-shirt. Maybe Worn Free will make one...

  • Oh... Anywhere I can find them?

  • No, it is a band. After the Vaselines broke up, Eugene started a band called "Captain America", which was sued by Marvel comics. They had to change their name, due to legal issues, and they changed it to "Eugenus" or something like that.

I think Kurt preferred the old name though.
