If you really want to preposition your supplies out there, bury it and use GPS coordinates to find it again. Take pictures of the site before you dig because it must look exactly the same when you are done. Your cache should be at least 3 ft below the surface to keep animals from digging it up. Read up on caching supplies.

I have a solar distiller that makes enough water for me (first thing you need) - and wind generator you can make for less than $100 bucks (next thing you need) and my music, lights and laptop runs 24 hrs a day if I want - and the bottom of my boat is covered with a farm the otters, fish and birds and I share - enuf for 4 people - easily - n the fishing is plentiful

It was local tweaker/scavengers. Unfortunately the are a problem in the remote areas. The only way to deal with it is to set your places up in little settlements and have someone there at any given time. The tweaker/scavengers will probably make contact and introduce themselves as "nice people" but they are pretty easy to figure out.
Well, I guess it's possible that the wind got your storage shed. I lived in southern Arizona and had a large dust devil rip the front porch awning, and half the roof off my single wide house trailer and deposit them almost 100 yards away in the sagebrush. The entire thing weighed several hundred lbs, and I couldn't believe it happened even though I was inside the house when it happened. It was also very noisey. I've also had a steel framed storage tent completely destroyed by a small dust devil.

Check them out I took a course, most impressive and inexpensive and they last for hundreds of years. A shed need to be anchored in the desert because of the wind. I have seen a 10x10 foot metal shed blow over and bounce in high winds because it lacked anchors in the soil. A good formula for off the grid is a small, small, small, camper, w outdoor shower, solar panels, water heater and propane stove. Campers are not for living in, they are way to hot, you just cook, wash, and store water in it. Tents are shady, cool, and can move if your spot gets hot.

@flythegadsden 2. I will agree that a lack of teachers either ability or willingness to teach other methods harm the students. However, poor teachers come from lack of oversight. Teachers receive tenure after 5 years and at any time before then they are subject to employment at will just like every non-union person. My old teacher when 7 years before his first evaluation and by then he had tenure. That is a whole other discussion

I have a machine that makes alkaline water and the tube where the bad water goes through I let it run into container which needs to be soaked before putting it into the dish washer.Shredded paper I save in plastic bags in my garage to have a sort of fuel when I need fire to keep warm outside.Makes a good fire starter.

Actually-technically-using internet is NOT on the grid-rather its on the net. On the GRID from an infrastructure/engineering and social perspective implies breast fed power from a coal fired-nuke-fossil fuel-or if you're lucky some solar-wind-or other sustainable source-but still "on the grid". Living off the grid-as MOST people did barely 100 years ago-and ALL did 200 years ago-is completely different from "socializing or doing business" thru the media of the day.

Rule #1- DON'T build a shed in a remote area and put all your gear in it. It's like putting up a big neon sign that says "HERE'S A BUNCH OF GOOD STUFF FREE FOR THE TAKING!"
If you really want to preposition your supplies out there, bury it and use GPS coordinates to find it again. Take pictures of the site before you dig because it must look exactly the same when you are done. Your cache should be at least 3 ft below the surface to keep animals from digging it up. Read up on caching supplies.

I have lived off the grid since 2010 and recommend it. I have a solar distiller that makes enough water for me (first thing you need) - and wind generator you can make for less than $100 bucks (next thing you need) and my music, lights and laptop runs 24 hrs a day if I want - and the bottom of my boat is covered with a farm the otters, fish and birds and I share - enuf for 4 people - easily - n the fishing is plentiful

It was local tweaker/scavengers. Unfortunately the are a problem in the remote areas. The only way to deal with it is to set your places up in little settlements and have someone there at any given time. The tweaker/scavengers will probably make contact and introduce themselves as "nice people" but they are pretty easy to figure out.

Well, I guess it's possible that the wind got your storage shed. I lived in southern Arizona and had a large dust devil rip the front porch awning, and half the roof off my single wide house trailer and deposit them almost 100 yards away in the sagebrush. The entire thing weighed several hundred lbs, and I couldn't believe it happened even though I was inside the house when it happened. It was also very noisey. I've also had a steel framed storage tent completely destroyed by a small dust devil.

@chadwimc Check out Calearth.org and super adobes, no wind is going to blow one of them down, they withstand pretty big earthquakes and fire and flood as well. Check them out I took a course, most impressive and inexpensive and they last for hundreds of years. Winds are going to get higher and higher and any sheds or card and match stick houses are going to blow away in a heart beat.

A shed need to be anchored in the desert because of the wind. I have seen a 10x10 foot metal shed blow over and bounce in high winds because it lacked anchors in the soil. You say you don't like the destruction and proceed to kick over the tree. Just saying that is in conflict with what you say. If that was a dangerous steep hill, you live in a city.

I don't know what you were planning to do up there, but it doesn't look like much. Kids vandalizing sheds in the middle of nowhere is not the product of modern society, kids have always done stuff like that.
A good formula for off the grid is a small, small, small, camper, w outdoor shower, solar panels, water heater and propane stove. Campers are not for living in, they are way to hot, you just cook, wash, and store water in it. Tents are shady, cool, and can move if your spot gets hot.
