  • thanks for everyone's nice comments! Loki is doing great and is more active than Ringo! I made him a ferret harness out of a cat harness (just used a pair of sissors, glue from a hot glue gun, and looked at Frettaluna's harness to see how to make it. I have been able to walk three ferrets at a time but four is just too much! but they still all get their turns =) With the new cage, everyone is litter trained (FINALLY) lol, except Cotter will always be a digger, and he just makes that litter fly!

  • @4Dancingtrolls Loki is still doing great! The harness I made him was still too big and he got out of it easily! But I just bought him a new purple one from the store and he loves it! He gets lots of walks, but right now it's so hot that the ferrets start panting after being out for 10 minutes! So they just get extra playtime outside their cage instead.

(Loki got a purple leash/harness because Cotter has blue, Frettaluna has red, and Ringo has green. And Petsmart doesn't sell any other colors!)

  • OMG Congrats & Welcome to Loki !!! he is so beautiful and seems to be one big boy too !!! Did you get him from a shelter ? Don't worry in time, he'll get along with the others, just keep you eyes on them all for now ! LOL =)

  • @Linkie2001 I got him from his old owner who didnt have enough time for the boy, and he is doing real great with the others =)

  • SOOO CUTE! I suppose that Loki is an albino? Albinos are known to be mostly deaf. Although my Abigail (she's an albino) isn't deaf, Malcolm, Maverick, Willow and Duncan all are. Maverick and Abbey are brother and sister. Willow and Duncan are too. It is completely normal for ferts to fight it out when they encounter new companions. It will all stop suddenly. Remember, no blood, no poop/pee, no foul. They are all soo cute.

  • @nightwolfseye thanks! I actually don't know what my ferrets Loki and Cotter are considered. They are white but have very very dark red eyes ( without pics you would think they have black eyes) So they are DEWs in a way and Albinos in another way

I agree on the fighting, as long as it isnt out of control, I leave them to handle it =)

  • @4Dancingtrolls Your welcome! If they have red eyes, they are albinos. DEWs would have black eyes either way and they may not have all white fur, as in they may have a few silver spots here and there or darker spots. I love my albino, Abbey. She has always been sort of a loner though by nature. She doesn't like to get in on the fights and play too much. lol. I just love your ferts though!

  • @nightwolfseye cool thanks again, my ferrets love you too! xD

  • So the big surprise is that "she's" a BOY!!!!! LOL - what a precious little guy! He's absolutely darling & Cowboy & I send him a big "Hello!" Where did you get him & how old is he? I guess somebody didn't see the little "bump" on his tummy LOL!!! I'm sure he'll adjust quickly to having new ferret friends to romp with :))

  • @annbaskervill we adopted him by his last owners who said they didn't have enough time for the poor guy. They had him for four years since he was a baby!!! I was so surprised!! so Loki is 4yrs old =) Oh and he is also deaf so it's weird for Loki to be around crazy ferrets and if he plays too rough, he can''t hear the other ferrets' cry! He is getting better though, I found him and Ringo sleeping together today and Cotter playing with him =)

  • @4Dancingtrolls Did they have poor Loki for 4 years without being able to determine his sex? Looks like he got a "soft landing" with your & your gang - he sounds like he's settling in quite nicely. My last ferret, Bristol RIP, was hard of hearing & he did fine...How's Frettaluna dealing with her new friend? :)

  • @annbaskervill apparently ya, I can't believe they didn't know it was a boy lol, I think she was told Loki was a girl and so she just believed that. I think he will do great with everyone, he is exploring my room with the gang right now =) Frettaluna is doing fine, she is just staying out of everyone's way right now and is enoying her new hammocks =) I am mainly worried about Cotter. Ringo and Loki bully him around and Cotter won't fight back! But nothing major has happened so idk =/

  • @4Dancingtrolls Poor Cotter - looks like Ringo & Loki have formed a partnership of the bullying kind LOL!! Can you separate him from the rest & just let him have limited exposure to the 2 boys till they're acquainted or is it just better to let them fight it our? I've done both ways with different ferrets I've owned over the years - it kind of depends on the individual...Keep me posted, of course! :)))

  • @annbaskervill well Ringo has gotten better at being carful with Cotter, so I think I will let them just handle it you know =) If it gets worse or something horrible happens I will seperate the boys for sure, but I bet they are just being rougher than they think!

  • @4Dancingtrolls It looks like the boys are working things out - that's good! Is Loki being more careful with Cotter? He'll follow Ringo's lead, don't you think? I had 2 rescued ferrets named Cid & Vicious who came to live with me & my ferret, Casper. Casper was terrified of Vicious, who would climb the baby gate into the room where i kept Casper & then she would get into his cage (if it was open since he had his own room) & attack him! He would scream & I'd have to run to his rescue...:)

  • @annbaskervill they are working it out =) I haven't heard or seen them fight since Sunday morning so they seem to get along okay now, and Loki is doing great walking on his harness ( I had to make a ferret harness for him out of our huge cat harness! it took so long to figure out lol) I think it's weird though, Frettaluna is staying away from everyone and will even sleep alone! usually she is cuddled up with cotter and playing with Ringo all day!

  • @4Dancingtrolls Maybe staying alone is Frettaluna's way of handling the early adjustment stage. She sounds like one very smart little girl! Great that Loki is liking his harness - Cowboy absolutely HATES his! He was outside once on his harness & mean old bird crowed at him & he would've been long gone if not for that harness! He's afraid of birds, which would be one of his family's main predators, so that's pretty smart of the little fellow! :)

  • @annbaskervill Yeah thats what I think too =) Wow Cowboy is a very smart guy! Cotter would just chase the bird xD he loves chasing anything that moves! he will even stare at passing cars wanting to follow them lol!!

  • @4Dancingtrolls Now, Cowboy does stare at cars when he's outside, but I think he's trying to figure out if the cars are a threat to him. He doesn't like being outdoors since the mean old bird scared him - he likes going out after dark when the birds are asleep. I'll send you the video I shot when he was out & the bird crowed at him - you can't hear the bird, but you'll see Cowboy try to scurry under the bushes & then we turn the camera off! Poor little fellow... :)

  • how many ferrets do you have?

  • @DcA75cool I have four now! Cotter, Ringo, Frettaluna, and Loki =)
