  • How do you film like that? It's not whit a camera i can see...

  • So glad you have an English accent.

  • @NicoleEliz21 every mac has a built in mic

  • is there any way you can just slow down one part of a clip, or can you not do that? please respond.

  • @overduekey I'd just clip out the "part" you want to slow down into a new clip and reduce the speed of that. Pretty straightforward.

  • @overduekey Yes, it's very simple. Position the play head over the spot where you want the speed change to begin, right click and select split. Then go to where you want the speed change to end and split again. Then adjust the speed for that section. You can do multiple splits and change the speed in increments to simulate ramping. Check out my channel or search backyard nascar. In there is a clip in which I approach a turn at full speed, slide through in slow motion, then depart at full speed.

  • i only watched the whole thing because i liked your acccent :)

  • You mentioned audio. Is it possible to overlap a music file on the video but have the music file in the background so you can barely hear it while being able to hear the video over it?

  • Really helpful! thanks you

  • When I export my videos to quick time, I get a good quality video, with no sound, Iv'e tried a bunch of different things, and the only one that worked was to export the video in .mov and it worked, but I got horrible quality video, but this time I have the sound. ANYONE KNOW WHAT IM DOING WRONG? OR WHATS GOING WRONG? THANKS.

  • Nevermind, says at end :P

  • Hey, can I ask, what do you use to record your screen?

  • can u export eye tv videos to iMovie without the hauppauge hd pvr??

  • how do people have linked video clips playing in the outro in there videos like at the end it will have a banner or something and then like one or two videos playing and they say like yesterday video and new video type setup

  • you helped me make a video! thanks

  • just a question, but i just got this program, but i would like to know how i can render my videos so it is in a format ready to upload for youtube.

  • @sakichan131bellkid iMovie 09 can post directly to YouTube. Otherwise, most of the video formats you choose (.mov quicktime, etc) will work fine if you upload them to YouTube. Just make sure you don't exceed the YouTube length limit.

  • thanks for the video!

  • sorry, I just want to ask!

    How can I download?

Please send a private message with a link in it, how I can freely download

  • @JenellSchutz download what? the video is not available for download. iMovie 09 is paid-for software as part of Apple's iLife 09 suite.

  • does this program export media at 60 frames a second?

  • @miragestudioE I am not sure whether you can specify the FPS.

  • I wanted to know can I not put pictures in the imovie and make a movie from it? I thought i could do that. I reallyyyyyy need to know asap. i was going to make my sister a bday present with our memories (pics) on it. reply back asap :D:D

  • how did you make that intro?

  • @vVtootVv it's one of the themes that comes with iMovie 09.

  • when i double click my clips i cant get it to bring up the special effects choice and all that.. does anyone know why. i have imovie 09

  • Hey andypiperuk, how do you point at a certain point in the video like you did starting at 5:22 in your video?

  • @bbemil I did that using a mouse action in Screenflow.

  • Hey Peoples - Check this iMovie Video...

    /watch?v=yzzN-i5GQTk

  • Hey Peoples - Check this iMovie Video...

    /watch?v=yzzN-i5GQTk

  • this is not basics .

  • that's why it's called BEYOND the basics...

  • Hey could you please make a vid on how you made your intro? Thanks

  • @TSmitt00 To have the film theme, you have to make a new project and them you can select whatever theme you want.

  • Andy

Correct me if wrong. Yes you can detach the audio in a clip and then delete that selection to eliminate the audio but there is no "done" tag. So that the next time you go to re edit that same project the audio will be right back in place.

You need to go to the precision editor audio wave and erace the audio there and then hit "done" to make this audio deletion permanent.

  • was this a response to theworldofapple?

  • link?

  • ooking for some help!! in my spare time i like to play guitar and record a few covers i recently bought an imac with this imovie 09 and im struggling to sync up video to my music but im a simpleton when it comes to editing. i know this is vague but if any one could find the time to have a look at what ive done and offer suggestions i would massively appreciate. or you are in need of a project i would happily supply some music and video footage for you to make a video for me?

  • @TheLadyGhada ya he lied lol

  • how to you import thumbnails?

  • how did you record what was happening on the screen?

  • @KiwianaMan download screenium for mac.

  • I use ScreenFlow.

  • @KiwianaMan screen flow

  • @KiwianaMan probably hypercam :D

  • no, u cant, but 09 is better for serious editing

  • How do you get the whole picture in the shot, hypercam? Because I am trying to make a video like this but I dont have the whole computer camera... I think

  • I'm having a problem when i upload to youtube or try and burn a dvd. I made a music video in imovie09, I'm just using the background music track. Everthing plays fine in imovie but when I upload to youtube or try and burn a dvd of the video the sound from some of the video clips are being picked up and heard . I have the volume turned down to 0% on all the clips. Again, It plays fine in imovie, it only happens when i try to upload or try and burn a dvd. Can anyone please help! Thank You.

  • maybe you need to re-export it. Export the version with all the sound turned down to 0%, except for the music, of course! then put that version that you just exported into a menu in idvd. burn that, and it should work.

  • thanks for the inf but i already found a way , i have to convert them into another form like DV thats whant im doing from now on . and its been working for me. but you gotta make sure you drag them right to the folder that says new project otheriwise doesnt work by the way im a mac user

  • just want to say great video also i got a question i have i movie 08 and i just got 09 but neither one let import my videos that i make with my camera (sony cyber shot ) i try to convert them in others forms (dv,quick time movie) but it doesnt work i really need your help if you have any solutions for this problem thanks

  • have you ever plugged it into a windows machine? i had the same problem a while ago and I sovled it by taking it into a computer store and the guy there took out the invisible files that were put on when i plugged it into my PC once.

  • i don't know what you use for the convertion but made that's it you could try to use isquint it's really good , very simple and free .

Oh and you need to convert the video to mp4

  • iMovie 09 sucks, iMovie HD was the best there was. and Final Cut Studio is even better than all of it

  • iMovie HD is very slow and the quality is quite low..

  • I've been using HD since I got my tiger 5 years ago and I know the in and outs of it. That being said, I can assure you that once you get used to iMovie 09 that your work flows is much faster. The features in the 09 seems small compared to iMovie HD, but once you begin to play with the 09 it actually does more.

  • hi..umm does it have like this little thing in the movie if its unregistered cuz i dont rlly want that on ALL my movies...cuz i just downloaded it without paying soo...

  • cheers mate..great tutorial

  • at 5:24 in this tutorial you use a peephole to single out an area of interest on the screen. is there a way to do that in imovie / could you suggest a way for me to get that done?

    thanks a ton

  • I did that using the screen effects in ScreenFlow, you can't do that directly in iMovie.

  • Is it possible to have 4 videos playing at once in a 2x2 grid, like a 'multitrack' recording?

  • Not in iMovie directly but you might be able to glue together several videos in Quicktime or another tool.

  • Andy, is it possible to lengthen the duration of multiple clips in the project pane... simultaneously? I have multiple video clips that are all .07 seconds. I'd like to make them all .09 seconds long.

  • Hi Alex. I've had a play around with this and I've been unable to find a way to do it. That's not to say it isn't possible, but maybe it's worth asking on the Apple support forums for a better answer.

  • I guess you have a mic attached to line in?

I'm really not sure. Did you try playing around with the voiceover prefs, maybe? That has a drop-down to select the input you want. I can't see anything related to the iSight settings so I guess (I'm not certain) that if you capture from iSight then it will always end up using the iSight / internal mic, which would suck a bit, but I can't see anything else obvious. Maybe try asking over on the Apple support forums.

  • what version of imovie is this because i have imovie 09 but i dont have the same setup as you do. i have version 7.1.4

  • I have iMovie 09, About iMovie menu shows it is Version 8.0.2 (741).

  • Andy: my 09 version shows 8.0.5 (820)

  • Good Work Andy.

Thank you for a very informative and easily understandable tutorial.

  • Very professional and informative video.

  • what did you use to record this video?

  • I used ScreenFlow for the recording.
