Im not really into older trains, im more of a modern modeler, BUT I REALLY LIKE THIS VIDEO!!! Nice layout and good looking trains to go with it. I'll be checking in more to see whats up. Thaks for the clip.
@wesolint Yeah, I think I can guess why. Too bad there isn't an easy way to repower one and upgrade the electrical pickup. I have three of them and it took a lot of work to get them running and looking good. It was worth it to me as I like that NP freight scheme on the U25C but most people would probably chuck the engine before they'd put that much work into it. And they'd be smart to do so!
This is not my engine. It belongs to one of the club members who is a huge NP fan. His dad worked for NP. He has 3 of them, all diff numbers, and was planning to re-motor them. He is LMB73882 on YouTube. He would probably share info with you if you contacted him. The biggest reason for keeping them, I guess, is the correct wheel arrangement on the trucks.
I went to work for ATSF in 1950 as a Locomotive Engineer, I remember all the E and F units and GP7s had the Leslie Tyfon A-200 horn. I see a lot of good memories on that table. Thank you for a great video.
@wesolint The EMD GP7 and EMD F7A both had the Leslie Tyfon A-200 horn along a majority of GM Locomotives. 1944 there was a lot of Steamers around, 1950 I've throttle jerked a Coffee Pot Steamer for 2 whole days. I was a Yard Engineer. Your locomotives are one the money.
@MrCraig1930 I love to hear stories from the "old heads". When my dad hired out in 1944, he was a fireman and actually fired the SP&S 700 (701 & 702 also) as well as the 4-6-6-4 Challengers they called the 900's. That was their number series and they were classified as Z6 & Z8 on the NP and SP&S. Like you, he spent alot of his early career on the yard steamers. He told stories of having to grab my older brother by the britches to keep him from running out of the "noisy" cab!
@wesolint I have Throttle Jerked the 2-6-2 and the 4-8-4 Baldwin Steamer when I was learning to be a Throttle Jerker (a nickname for locomotive engineers) in 1948 to 1949. The Steamer days are over, but I still miss them.
you did this video very well sounds and eveything keep up the good work im realy a o gauge lionel trains collector but i got to say those HO TRAINS can realy make a nice layout for alot less money
Hello my friend, I just started collecting and I got a starter kit. It's a Bachmann Union Pacific train. (Look in my videos for the video about it.) What should I start first with? The table or getting the supplies or what do you think I should start with?
so this was what it was like before the big five merged to form BNSF. Hill bought the Northern Pacific and merged it with his Great Railway to form Great Northern. then Great Northern merged with Burlington Road to form BN or big green then in 1996 after SP and SF was liquidated they became BNSF or the pumpkin road. as for SP she returned to her old friend UP and they completed the link they formed in 1869. great video Wesolint this shows the history of this great road.
You kind of got it right. Great Northern and Northern Pacific were separate railroads both owned and controlled by J.J.Hill. Their subsidiaries were the Burlington Route (CB&Q) and the Spokane Portland & Seattle (SP&S) which the GN & NP both owned 50% of each. In 1970, the GN, NP, CB&Q, and SP&S merged to form the Burlington Northern (BN). In 1980, the BN absorbed (through a merger) the Frisco (SLSF). In 1996, the BN and the Santa Fe (AT&SF) merged to form what is the present day BNSF.
Don't know about the Hill Lines, but on the Soo Line, when they had 89' piggyback cars, they always went on the back of the train to keep them from derailing during brake applications. Something I still see to this day with CP. Love the solid-looking trains (very few wobbly cars) and, of course, the Hamms Beer car!
I have several pictures with piggyback cars and autorack cars on the head end (mostly SP&S as that's my favorite - my dad was an engineer for them). Back in the day, trailing tonnage wasn't much of a consideration as the trains weren't anywhere near as heavy or as long as they are today. Thanks for the comment.
@wesolint: I think Soo Line had a nasty derailment or two from weight piled up behind light piggyback flats so they moved them to the back and that's where they've been ever since. I think they also put them back there so they can pull them off a consist pretty fast without much switching. With the advent of the double-stacks those have taken the place of the piggyback flats at the back of the train. Probably just a Soo Line thing.
were in from they use two rebuilt ex CR bay windows for the coatsville turn because they have to back up of the Harrisburg line, on to the trenton cut off, then down to coatsville, then back up the cut off, and then they pull foward back on to the Harrisburg line
I enjoyed the parade of Pre BN, I am a member of a Model rail road club as well and I love those Burlington U-Boats and Geeps. Plus It always nice to Spokane engines. Hey do you have any Spokane PA'a or FA's. I know they were the only railroad to have Alco engines only. Nice work by the way. I have a specail request Empire Builder video please.
That bell sound at the beginning, I have that as my cell phone ringtone!! I know where you got that, you got that from the Innovative Train Technologies website right?
For all I know you have the coolest cabooses. Maybe next time through In a conrail engine? Conrail was in the 70s I think. Maybe I'm wrong but I loved this video.
I live in the Northwest and model the trains related to this area. Sorry, I have no Conrail equipment, nor do any of the club members. I have seen Conrail units pass thru on many freights over the years but never purchased one. :(
You have earned one extra "brownie point" for this comment. Thank you, comments such as this make it all worth while. I think I'll go start another vid now.
You've done it again with the sounds and the looks, you make railfanning fun in a way I can't describe. Railfanning is so much better when you can see the whole train as it passes with all the nostalgia involved with trains Thank-You!
Super video. I sit here and really wish that I could see the layout with my own eyes sometime. You have really done a great job with everything. Great to see that people are so into making the landscape perfect...
I surf for sound bites on the world wide web & use ones that I think fit the scene. Others have shared their sounds with me too. I don't necessarily use a GP9 sound bite for a GP9 shot - but it would be an older EMD sound from something.
This is AWESOME (as usual) wesolint! Again, the attention to detail to all of the rolling stock is FANTASTIC! The sounds alone makes you feel like you are standing trackside. It's so nice to see the NP, CB&Q, SPS, & GN on the "high iron" again! :) Keep up the great work sir.

Hey Wesolint? I have a question. Is the engine in the middle at 2:37 a C-620? Just curious.

It's a U25C. You can tell this by the center wheelset being more toward the end than the center.
