I think some sub-genre terms can be relative. I might call it something, someone else might call it something different. Some subgenres sound too identical for me to distinguish without breaking it down and analyzing each part. I've listened to Goregrind and Slam Death metal, and they both sound exactly the same. But it's fun to laugh at all the Metal Purists argue and call each other itiots over whaich band is which style-!

If they had been preserved by word-of-mouth, they would have been severely distorted, much like the religious scriptures of today. For example, Damaged, everyone was saying thrash death metal or speed death metal and they didnt want to be put in that category, so they called thier own music Hatecore. I partially agree. Only partially because metal is a very wide topic and when you mention "black metal" this usually means an antichristian point of view. Death metal sometimes deals with politics etc. Gothic or doom with sadness, power metal with fantasy.. Unblack metal is not typical. "Black metal" is in 95% cases satanic. Black Metal is NOT ANTICHRISTIAN, and anyone who follows the Lord Jesus Christ should know that. Music was made to praise God's name, not to degrade it-Black Metal is a style. "Christian Black Metal" is pretty much what it says-dark music with uplifting lyrics. Technically, it's not even black metal... it's UnBlack Metal/White Metal... and COB is ok, but they're pretty bad compared to Crimson Moonlight.
