Yes the caste system was a sad construct of the late Upanishad writings, The Bagava Gita was also a book that idealised death for religion. There is sadly still a lot of superstition among the less educated peoples there. There is also a lot of bitterness left as they view both Muslims and Christians(British empire) as invaders. Thats bullshit. Stupid blending of facts. It's an indeginous subcontinental form of medicine called ayurveda that existed thousands of years before alexander's birth. Micheal Wood's account is not entirely accurate. Alexander's campaigns in india were disastrous and innefficient. Which is why they turned. This war was fought to stop and trap alexander instead of letting him escape. But I guess ancient greek archivers loved alexander so much that they portray him as almost god.

Don't lump Greek & Islamic cultures without knowing more of the history. Also, the beginnings of Greek medicine commence before written history just as I'm sure Indian medicine does. The Islamic world borrowed heavily from the Greek world including the sciences and hence medicine.
