  • try to put exampels man

  • just what thE FUCK CAN YOU DO TO GET OUT OF AUTO MODE

  • The hair brought me here.

  • I find that I typically use Aperture priority often. So this way I typically play with the ISO and set the aperture to what I want. Sometimes I'll go use full auto mode but the above serves me well often (canon 40D)

  • Im actually learning stuff without being bored to shit. Great job sir.

  • hi iv bought a digital camera and i'm a beginner, my camera is a casio ex-zs10. do anyone know what i should do about iso, its on auto at the moment so can anyone give me any tips on this i would be greatful.

  • @2011karin i never use auto. aperture priority, yes. shutter priority yes. but never auto iso.

set ISO yourself like Jared said.

  • Wait jared should i sell my 55-200mm for a 35mm F/1.8G. I wanted to save for a 70-200 2.8 but i need to up the body from a D3000 to a D7000.

  • @Freepepsi42 Keep the D3000 and spend the money on a lens.

  • @NatureNTech i already have a f1.8 amd a f2.8. I need better low lights. And the college i'm going to only uses the D300.

  • Thank you for passing on your knowledge ! keep going dude I love you ..

  • you are like a teacher, like a real school teacher.

  • Is your hair real?

  • thanks YOU!!

  • this is great @JaredPolin... i'm learning.

  • I think I'm gunna stick with u in learning photography - ur easy to relate to and ur teaching method actually teaches me something - photography IS an art form we can't just be told how to use it - by giving us the general landscape (tehehe play on words) we can then find our own point of view on photography

  • @Lon1an no I just got mine and haven't taken a single shot in auto

  • Am I the only one who started at Manual mode from the beginning, first time I held a camera?

  • I now know what P means! not knowing ISO is killing my indoor shots! Thank you.

  • nikon ftw

  • Your rule of thirds is off for this video and it's bugging me :P A little to the left!

  • Great fro ever :)

  • cartman-Pokerface

  • what do you suggest for really good editing? is portrait professional good??

  • Awesome info, thanks!

  • Good tutorial. I recently got a Canon SX30 and what your describing is exactly the process I went through of experimenting with different settings in different situations. Its really easy to learn with these new digital camera's.

  • 50,000th view!!!!

  • very helpful tips brother, keep those coming...thanks a ,ot!!

  • 3:46, lol, they Fros.

  • 2:55 - 3:36 That Section Really Was Helpful Thanks Fro I subscribed(:

  • 3 dislikes? Haters!

  • i took a picture with the iso set to 200, 50mm, f/4 at 1/100 sec on a outdoor photo, its still a little grainy. HELP!! i used a cannon rebel t2i i would like to show you the photo maybe you can help give me some advice???

  • @timec1985 what were u shooting and did you crop. What makes you think you are getting to much grain?

  • @timec1985 Try overexposing a little bit and you will lose that grain! ;)

  • @timec1985 get a nikon...

  • thank you very much for explaining this as i could never understand what the ISO does... just starting to learn things.

cheers... keep up the good work..

  • I love photography and I'm 13. I've been a photographer since I was 11. I'm thinking of buying a used Rebel T2i. Have any advice? PLEASE reply back. Also, I photograph mainly cars.

  • hey i have nikon p500... can this camera do back focus and fornt focus... if can... can u teach me how to do it??

  • Jared, I think you had to wear one of "I shoot RAW" T-shirts :P xD

  • i looooooooooooooove you!

  • You're very friendly in the way you explain things. I already know almost everything there is to know about photography, but I still watched this because I was so drawn in by the way you were explaining it. Great job man.

  • I love you!

  • Why do you have a timer for 5 minutes when you are allowed 15 minutes? Is it because youtube tells you to keep your videos short to get more views? Me? I prefer more content. More meat and potatoes in one video. don't make your users hunt all over for bits and pieces.

  • I usually get into a situation where I want to avoid as much grain as possible. So I set my ISO low as possible and compensate with aperture and shutter speed settings. I don't always get the most satisfying results though, so I usually break down and bump the ISO up a bit. I just hate ending up with so much noise... and this point n' shoot gives me nasty looking grain.

  • you give excellent information out and makes you feel good about using nikon, thanks for that and kudos!

  • Smart Guy! Thanks Mate

  • i'm an amateur photographer...i see what happens with ISO but i just think its important to understand exactly why things happen the way they do. Who knows? Maybe this will lead to me thinking of how to make better image sensors for future cameras. I'm hoping my analogy makes sense tho...can anyone confirm?

  • however if ur in the dark...wearing shades (low ISO) wont help...u need the full power of ur eyes (ISO sensor). But in the dark...using the full power of ur eyes makes things not so clear because ur eyes are constantly trying hard or being strained to see right and focus on things around. Is this how ISO works?

  • i like the simplistic way of teaching things so this is very good...makes things nice, casual and comfortable for everyone. i feel like i'm sitting right there on the lawn listening to a friend break things down for me because he really wants me to get it and not keep paying him tonnes of money for complicated big words. Keep doin ur thing Jared. Bless up from Jamaica! So a low ISO setting would be like wearing shades right? If ur in the sun u can wear shades because there's enuff natural light.

  • @chuculan1

Man, be a little more respectful, JP, is great at explaining things this way, you think YOU waste one minute and a half watching the "intro" about ISO... I'm sure others are thankful for it, If you think u are more clever than everyone else... Why don't u upload a video with this subject... And hope everybody hits the like button...

  • Jared, you would really be a fantastic photography teacher. You inspire a lot of amaturer photographers. Have you ever considered it?

  • you wasted one and a half minutes talking crap I have an idea just get to the point and stop talking bs

  • @EpicMustacheMan Probably get a lot of motion blur with that low an ISO at a concert if its dark!

  • 1:26

Jared pwned Bag's head! for 215 gold!!

Jared just drew first blood! (+200 gold!)

  • Jared please, be my personal teacher!!

  • Arh crap !! Wish I come by your video's a long long ago. Ive learnt more with your vidoe's in the last 20 min than I have in 12 month. Keep it up. :)

  • great vids man keep it up

  • Thanks for your time dude! Great videos!

  • Thanks so much for helping me understand things like iso. I am an artist...so my brain doesn't naturally function in codes. I hate all the letter and number combos. But anyway, I like your style. Your hair was the initial reason I clicked one of your videos then I found you to be really helpful so I've watched a lot. Just get some tighter darker "strappy" looking jeans and your look will be awesome. Not even joking.

  • I just got my nikon d3100 and I love it ... You make it so easy I'm am learning more with you .... you're cool

  • good stuff

  • You're a little bit different aren't ya? A little bit off centre...a little bit kooky, kitchy, crazy...a little bit mad aren't you?

  • @montezumasrevenge haha so true

  • Jared ,what video camera are you suing to record this ?

  • @antropoloscar nikon d3s

  • @JaredPolin is nikon d3s better than canon eos 60d on video recording?

  • @johnallenish the d3s blows any camera out of the water for still photos im happy with it for video but the next model will be better.

  • @JaredPolin I am a canon guy and I agree with this statement... especially at higher ISO's.

  • @JaredPolin What is a good lense for a nikon d3100 and not to expensive? please help D:

  • I Jared, I was wondering if you can do another ISO video with visual examples etc. ISO is something im having alot of trouble wrapping my brain completely around. THANKS :)

  • Hey!

I like how you're explaining a camera. I want to learn how to use a camera in the manual mode, because I don't want it to do all my work.

Of course the other moders are pretty helpful in some cases, but I think its more fun the other way!

    Like your vids!^^

  • I'm sorry if you've answered this already, I'm new to your vids/website and I'm working my way through. I was wondering what a good picture editing software would be. I have worked with Photoshop, but it's kind of intimidating for a complete novice like myself. I have a mac if that makes a difference. Thank you for making these videos.

  • @blueyedaxo Go with Lightroom. It's really simple to use and a complete novice (like me) has been able to get a grasp of it only a couple of weeks.

  • ur verry good man mpravo (thats well done in greek)

  • You're stuff rocks! You keep it detailed, fun, but very simple....Excellent teacher!

  • Your stuff is just awesome you should have at least ten time as many views!!!

  • love your point of view how to juse the camera.. and how to lurn from it. help me allot.

    Love your hair to man!

    Peace from Norway

  • I've finally got my parents to get me the Nikon D3000 for my B'day, so I've been searching on the internet for tutorials and stuff because I don't have a clue what Aperture or anything else. I'm only 15 so still a kid have a lot to learn I would like to get serious with photography, I love taking photos your video really helps. ^_^ I'll be following your videos from now on, and really thanks man for the videos your a legend! I will post questions 4 u soon :P

  • Whats the difference between setting the ISO, or just changing the shutter speed?

  • YeaAAA This Channel is Getting better and Better Love the Logo in the video man..

  • Haha stick to photography instead of geography ;-) lol. Wish i had that "back yard" just so i could get a ride on lawn mower. But on a seriouse note i was wondering if i'm rite in saying that the d3000 doesn't autofocus unless you have a motor in the lens? and what are you thoughts on the lack of live view?

  • @grantmynott If it is not an afs lens it will not auto focus. Live view for stills is a joke dont let me catch u in it lol.

  • @JaredPolin yeah i thought you'd say that. i only mentioned it because it now seems to be standard on most models. will be strange holding a camera up to my eye after getting so used to point and shoots and camera phones... but look forward to it.

  • @grantmynott LIVE VIEW = BADDDDDD lol. Its not stable!!

  • @JaredPolin and it takes forever to Focus compared to ViewFinder

  • @JaredPolin

Live view is awesome! Not for taking photos but checking exposure. It sucks on Nikon though I'm almost tempted to ditch my D3 and go back to Canon cause I miss it so much. But then again I just tested a D3S and it's actually usable.

It's great when you're shooting in manual exposure mode you just press the button, adjust your exposure, and then press it again to turn it off and you're all set until the light on your subject changes. But D3 is unusable cause it's like a 10 step process

  • @cavolpe HEy there, I def need to do an update on this and your so very right. I was shooting interiors and using live view on the tripod, i had my histogram up and i was changed my shutter speeds and watching the image change in front of my eyes. My update would be live view still sucks for hand held and events but for studio work and interiors its defiantly can be useful.

  • @JaredPolin I use Live View on my 50d when I'm shooting things like landscapes on a tripod. It allows me to check that my focus is perfect by zooming in to 100% and getting it just right.

  • Have you got a huge garden or are you in a field? Looking forward to more videos like this, very helpful for a beginer like me. Good work Mr Fro.

  • @grantmynott I have a nice size back yard to work with. nothing like my farm in susex east west south side england though.

  • yes this is it. it's all about manual mode. you should learn to "read" the light yourself using the manual mode. sometimes it's a funny thing to guess the shutter/aperture setting at standard iso of 200 or 100 BEFORE you let the camera read the light. you will be surprised, but you can learn reading the light.

  • Awesome Video!

  • Jared , Thank you so much for these videos :)

    - Chad

  • Great inspirational video to aspiring photographers, Jared.

    'Trust in your light meter.'

  • @fallenembers08 thank you, this is what you can expect for these videos. Straight forward info as little BS as possible.

  • @JaredPolin

    No problem.
