I have mixed feelings about this and kinda seen this coming when BMW redesigned the 3 series(doesn't look bad at all) and figured that they wouldn't leave well enough alone and do something off for the 5 series. I'll have to actually see this in person before I make snap judgment. Hopefully the M5 will have more of a visual difference than the E60 did from the rest of the line up, speaking of, is this new 5 series still gonna get a M5?

Sporty tailpipes? look at an infiniti, look at the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class it will be competing with, those have sporty dual separate tailpipes...what has tailpipes like the 5 series? a Kia...a 1 series, a 3 series...a corolla...what has separated tailpipes? A lexus, a Mercedes, a Ferrari, an Infiniti, a Jaguar. If you can distinguish that, then you are as stupid as the American Auto maker.

This is just a fine example of design that follows performance;

why would you have two seperate tailpipes on:

a 20(d) engine, a 25(d) engine, or even a 30(d) engine.

This just isn't necessary, maybe it is for the 35(d) engine, because it features a more racy turbo'd inline-6, but come on, not on a freaking 4 cylinder or an ordinary inline-6 with barely 200bhp. Okay, it looks better, but you're not fooling anyone.

I am not talking about quad (4) pipes, just 2, like the ones it currently has just not bunched together in one side of the bumper...I am talking about having them separated. I might not make sense for a 4 cylinder, but it does for a 6 cyl, and even so, in this case, cosmetic appeal > minor engineering efficiency. Im sure 99% of the customers are NOT thinking, "gee BMW is so smart to have efficiently bunched those together like a ford focus..." Anybody that does some market research knows that.

Yes, that's the parking light. That means that only the lights on one side (left or right) are on, the lights on the other side are off. The sense of this is to preserve others cars crashing into you if you have to park somewhere on the side of a street in the dark for a short spell.

Chris Bangle didn't design this car, Adrian van Hooydonk did. But it is based of the F01 7 Series which is based on the BMW CS Concept which is a Chris Bangle design. Chris Bangle was a visionary it's too bad very few appreciated his designs.

I think this looks good, but it doesn't look as sporty or aggressive as the E60 which makes me wonder how well this will translate into the F10 M5 later on.

E60 is a ugly car. E39 is much better.... 39E 530D is one of the few beemers I would buy. E60 has many faults, its not reliable enough for a car that costs three times more than a VERY reliable Toyota Avensis (which is in the same size category). And I have been repairing those things in a shop and there were much more E60s than there were 39s.

I think this looks better than E60.

Why is it that people keep comparing European cars to Jap ecoboxes like Toyota Avensis? Of course the Avensis will be more reliable, 1- It is Japanese, which means it was built 100% by a machine. 2- It doesn't even have half of the technology or electronics as the E60, therefor it is much simpler and less can go wrong with it. The E60 is not ugly, it's styling is just too radical for it's time, and the E60 M5 is excellent, specially the engine. The engine is just majestic.

Why not compare this to a ecobox? I just think its funny that a very pricy car isn't as reliable as a "ricebox". I mean the japs aren't bad to drive anymore so BMW really should put some effort to reliability. True that the engine in M5 is excellent, but you pay a heavy price for it. But if it suits your taste, go ahead. I like older cars more than the new ones and especially old japs like Galant VR4, Impreza, Evo, Skyline, Supra etc. but the e39 530d is also a good option.
