@zedlacredit East German team (Gesine Walther, Sabine Busch, Dagmar Neubauer, Marita Koch) it has 3 june 1984 in Erfurt gotten to result 3:15,92 and it has beaten world record.
@pandzida98765 Fresh legs, and not a competition with rounds... not to mention at the end of the games with the athletes competing in their individual events... East Germany would have battled for the Gold... but it certainly would not have been a shoe in !!
@markguest36 Yeah they did, at a meet when they all had fresh legs and ran one race (with a world record in mind), not at the end of an Olympics with many races on the althletes legs... very different task...
American women were lucky that the communist countries did not have the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Let's be honest .... if these games started relay of East Germany with Marita Koch at the helm, the U.S. relay team would have no chance. So than have reached the team of Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union. So American girls they are not really gold medalist...but only silver / bronze medalist. Gold should be East Germany.
@NJNupe1911 Yes exactly :P. To win the GDR would have to earn the first three changes to such an advantage that Marita Koch she could not make up for it and then it was impossible. In addition to Valerie Brisco-Hooks and Chandra Cheeseborough had no weaknesses. I doubt that at that time, Sheri Howard and Lillie Leatherwood defeated Gesine Walther and Dagmar Neubauer.
@pandzida98765 Well keep doubting... the GDR set their record on a day with fresh legs and all team memebers running only the relay to set the record. Very different then running a relay at the end of an Olympic games where Val ran rounds in 200 and 400, and Cheese ran rounds in 400 and was on the 4 x 100. Sherri Howard ran 48.83, here Bush ran 48.94, Genise ran 49.8 were Lillie ran 50.50 ... again Lillie ran rounds. The GDR run was on fresh legs. Dagmar ran 49.4 Val ran 49.2. continue...
@pandzida98765 The difference would have been Koch's 47.7 leg .. doubt she would have ran that at the end of the games. Chandra ran 49.7 here... and really didn't have to push. So your speculative win for the GDR had they been at these games... would be very much a question mark.... since they legs would not be fresh... and even the same team would be doubtful they way the GDR were always changing their drug fueled teams.
What I find astounding is that 49 other athletes tested positive at the US track and field trails besides Diane Williams so (50), and they threw out all the other tests and didn't let Diane run on the relay. So they must have known that their athletes would test positive at the games. So they were ready to destroyed documents and cover up for their cheaters, take about abuse of their home turf man.
The cover up at the LA games by the LA OOC was just totally unethical and disgraceful,a complete betrayal of trust; but set a president for the future cover-ups.
India's team of M.D. Valsamma, Vandana Rao, Shinx K. Abraham, P.T. Usha is in this race. You can see Shinx K. Abraham at 2:23 of this video. She is standing in 7th waiting for the baton.
Well, it was one hell of a performance by our girls, but now in retrospect and what we know it is sort of disgracefull. How the USTA covered up for all the dirty athletes for years, and how the LA OOC, broke into the room of the IOC president and stole the documents of the athletes positives test and had them shredded. Really shaddy business.
Valerie and Sherri were all drugged up...
