  • Thanks Randy! I served with pride during Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada) as an active duty Navy Medical Officer at Roosevelt Roads Naval Hospital Puerto Rico 1983-1987, then with the Naval Reserve until 1991.

  • Hi! This is from Japan.

I believe this is one of the best and the most standard performance that I have ever heard and played by muself! I love this merody that I practiced playing when I was a member of the brasband clib of my junior high school.

  • Go Navy. Beat Army!

  • As a band director, this is the original version - not played too much today by any bands - sorry to say. Thanks for posting - great job.

  • This is not only the best arrangement of Anchors Aweigh, but also one of the best performances of it I have ever heard. Thank you for sharing this. Is this the Navy Band? I am an ex-radioman.

  • @sailorette1 Hi, not a Navy band. I'm afraid to tell, as I may have to pull the video off.

  • K7AGE DE WB9MII good stuff! 73 Greg

    (former Navy RM)

  • i personely like the marines hymn better.

  • I served. And I'd do it again. Back in the 70's, when it wasn't 'cool' to be in the service.

Two cruises, two Carriers, West-Pac. This song does mean something to me. The rest of you can have your own opinions. Thank a Veteran for that right.

  • and i also love the navy and i have proudly served in vietnam.

  • My grandfather, mom and dad (WWII), sister and son were all USN. I'm in an orchestra that plays this arrangement once a year. Dad got to hear it one last time before he passed away last month. He, and all of us loved the Navy.

  • Without the USN none of the pacific victories would be possible and D-Day would'n't have happened.

  • Why must everyone get political? Do we feel the need to express opinions where people don't see our faces? Only if we could be this driven to discuss the world's issues face-to-face.

For me, I'm just going to enjoy some great music and remember my heritage.

  • Ahhh, Arthur Feidler and the Boston Pops !

  • As someone who is opposed to the US government and its military interventionism, I must say that the USN is the only branch of the US armed forces that inspires me respect and to some extent admiration, and "Anchors Away" is an amazing musical theme, it's definitely one of my favorite musical themes overall.

  • @ZealotKommunizma ...The USA doesn't intervene, it liberates. Unlike other military powers over the centuries we don't keep liberated territories. If we did "El Norte" would own half the world right now....including Mexico. Incidentally, Josef Vissarionovich Dzugashvili is long dead, along with Lenin.

  • I fully agree that this rendition is, by far, the best one. It is also one of the most beautiful marches ever written. It is also somehow "festive", rather than "aggressive". Most American orchestras offer as an encore in their concerts in Europe "the Stars and Stripes forever" and I believe that they should include this one as well as a regular encore. They would be surprised to realize how much european audiences like this piece.

  • When i see old navy ships and hearing anchors aweigh, reminds me of the war in the pacific when our aircraft carriers emerged and did their job...HOOYAH Navy

    HN Ng

  • XD GO SEA CADETS ^^ we sing this every x-mas, i hear there is onehundred verses to this song O.O

  • My family is in the navy milatary air force and marines

  • My Dad served in the Navy in WWII. First in the Atlantic, then wounded in the Pacific, and finally discharged in Corpus Christi, in 1948.

God bless the Greatest Generation, and God bless every Navy Man and Woman, and Ship, that followed in their wake.

As long as there's a United States Navy, the seas will always be Free.

  • My dad, his brother and brother-in-law all served in the Navy during WWII. My dad was an enlisted corpsman in Brazil with the Navy protecting South America from attack. His brother was a pilot over Europe. And I don't know what their brother-in-law did.

I joined the Navy in '83 but wasn't really cut out for it. I was given a general discharge the same year. But at least I tried.

  • DEVGRU FTW!

  • BRAVO-ZULU

  • This is the best rendition of "Anchors Away" that I have ever heard.

  • @HappyChristian101 This is the 'proper' version of Anchor's Aweigh. It is usually shortened to what most are accustomed to hearing because of time constraints and whatnot. But, being retired Navy, I find this version the only one to shivvie me up. Another song that gets me is Eternal Father Strong To Save.

  • The full Anchors Aweigh March -- fabulous!!

  • @silveryad - I spent 3 yrs on active duty as a Naval Officer and I'm embarrassed to say I've never heard the full version of Anchors Aweigh! Thaanks K7AGE!

  • My 3 Uncles,My greatd Grand Father,And my Father we all in the Navy,Great Grand - WWII 1942,My Father 1982 - Cold War,Uncles - Cold War,My Grand Father End of Korean War,All of Vietnam and The cold war with my 3 Uncles and my father.Navy is my fate and I love it.GO NAVY!

  • @wulfen157 Then join you dingbat.

  • @wulfen157 Right on for the navy, My dad served in WW11 and was also in the band. Go Navy

  • my grandfather, uncle and step dad were all navy to this video means much to me

  • my dad was on the ships they showed here, god bless and THANK YOU!!

  • oh my god: i hope the day will come when you can put the whole us army & co in the rubbish bin!

  • USN ALL THE WAY!

  • i want to either join the army or navy. which one should i do? my dad, an ex green beret, said i should really do airforce, he also said navy would be good for me too and i wouldnt mind joining the navy. which should i choose?

  • ok well my sister is in the Army and my brother is in the air force. the Air force is usually for more braniy people. my sister is smart but Army and Marines are more the for like brawny stuff, navy i don't know. but i want to join the navy. i would go to a recruiter for all of those and see what they have to offer. my brother went to the navy recruiter Marines recruiter and finally a Air force recruiter and decided he was goin in the Air Force

  • don't join the chair force, join the navy.

  • Here's a third choice..The Coast Guard. I'm retired Navy, so I'm not biased. The Coast Guard has a more demanding boot camp, but overall I think better trained. They attend Navy schools. but you've got to be taller than 6ft, so you can walk to shore when their ship sinks! lol, sorry couldn't help myself.

  • Jm, I'm retired Navy, but here is my advice. Research all the programs that each sevice offers and choose the one that is right for you. It's your future, you're the one that is going to live it, no one else. Don't let any one else make your decision for you! It's your life, not a video game. There's no "reset button". =Stefan=

  • my dads father was in the 101st Airborne in WWII and my dad went in the 82nd Army Airborne at the end of Veitnam.... and i wanted to join the Army too but my dad said for me to join the Air Force so i am but the reason why my dad told me to go in the Air Force is because he doesn't want me Dieing before him thats why

  • NAVY NAVY NAVY!!!

  • Glory be to the death machines!

  • Air Force is better, I joined at 17

  • hojdnatir, do yourself a favor and join the Airforce. I am an ex marine, and so many times I hoped I had joined the Airforce instead.

wichever you choose.. good luck and hope you like it =)

  • I'm trying to decide between army and airforce. I'm 16.

  • join the air force because you could get to even be one of the presidential airlift crew

  • Myself i spent 20 in the navy and loved it. saw alot of cool places and done some smazinf things. But I would tell you go talk to all 5 of them. see what they have to offer. and go from there

  • am thinking about joining the navy in the main thing in my bag will be a ft-817 in a small qrp antenna so i can have fun when am off duty

  • i am going to join the navy if i don't get my baseball scholarship so we will see.

  • Am I too old to join the Navy at 28?

  • nope I think the cut off is 35

  • My old man joined the Marines when he was 27 and served for six years active reserves, two years inactive. You should be fine.

  • I was aboard USS NEW JERSEY (BB-62) on 7 June 1954 -- a historic day when for the first and last time ever all four BBs of the IOWA class were in company at sea. It was a beautiful, impressive sight for me, a Midshipman 3/c who had been a Plebe just three days before, on his first day at sea.

These four mighty ships played Tic-Tacs like destroyers for a couple of hours off the Virginia Coast. Then IOWA and WISCONSIN broke off. MISSOURI And NEW JERSEY headed for Europe.

  • i am joining the navy (im 13)

  • You've still got a lot of time to think (and maybe even change your mind) but good luck.

  • haha string im joining AF and im 14 xD

  • What do you want to do?

  • Very Good.

  • I asked a question in a stupid way; I mean to say, how come the Marines, supposedly the sea-based version of the Army, are fighting some deep, in-land battles? I bear no personal grudge, but just that, the Marines are a sea-based force, while the Army is LAND-based... and the Marines are all the way deep in Iraq?

  • The marine corps is under the component of the US navy. However they operate as a completely different branch of the US armed forces. They do their own training and are capable of deploying through forcible air land and sea entries. The reason they are under the component of the US navy, is because they are a quick reaction force capable of deploying within two days of being called up. The navy provides them with the transport and logistical support that they need.

  • The same reason we still call have cavalry units that don't contain horses. Marines just evolved to a new niche when boarding enemy ships as a naval tactic became obsolete.

  • every branch does their job... im not sure what the airforce does but im sure they are doing it. Hooyah to the navy and especially to the SEALs because we all know if you are going to give it to someone please give it to the best

  • yeah the air force doesn't really do anything... except whenever the army or marines call for air support to bail their asses out of the fire.

  • They don't do anything?? better put those funny cigarettes down.

  • Inter-sevice rivalry only helps the enemy.

  • All four branches of the military are important and they all play a role. Air Force and Army guys bleed just as bad when they are put into harms way.

  • there all on the same side

  • My cousin was on the vincent and it was sunk in ww2.All americans should support our military for the freedom they give us each day and thank god for them.I will stand on gaurd for them if needed till my dying day.HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY FOR ALL VETERNS.

  • Great tune. Is this the whole song of Anchors Aweigh, officially? I love our US armed forces and the past history minus any politics. Unless the political parties are totally in support of our amed forces and trust the military for total defense of our country.

  • damn I cant wait to go, i am getting shipped this summer

  • cool, im going to be a SEAL when im older, god be with you

  • Don't be so sure. The SEALs only take Marines and Sailors who are squared the fuck away. You'll have to be a man of superhuman perfection to achieve such an honor.

Don't say something like "I IS GONNA BE A SEEL!" unless you actually know what that entails.

  • Joining the Leathernecks. God be with us all!

  • Yeah Sailors and Marines own the Army and the Air Farce

  • This is not a competition, AussieFan94. Everyone branch has their duties and responsibilities.

In any case, I would venture to say that Marines are faced with considerably harsher conditions than Sailors.

  • I Agree on that

well first off all the marines are for every thing like land, sea, and air

you gotta be everything to be in the Marines

  • damn right we do...all y'all just hating cuz you weren't cool enough to be a sailor...semper fortis....HM all the way...medic!!!!!

  • I was stationed on a Chair Force base for 6 months. They can't even touch the hoorah can do Seabees!

  • So true. Both branches are pretty much obsolete now. The Navy not only dominates the sea, but has a better air force than the Air Force itself. And the Marines are far superior Infantry to the Army. The only reason the Air Force and Army are still around is to give mediocre recruits a place to go so they aren't clogging up the Navy.

That's not to say I don't think that our Soldiers and Airmen are just as heroic as our Sailors and Marines. I just think those two branches are pointless.

  • be 2boot camp (rtc) with you...semper fortis

  • good luck

  • Outstanding job!

  • Anybody who slams another service obviously hasn't served his/her country in uniform. If you have, you wouldn't be so goddam ignorant!

  • Every Marine I know slams the Army and Air Force because they are obsolete branches whose jobs are done better by the Navy.

  • doesnt realy matter if you fight for the navy army or air force we all fight for the same country

  • Nice job! 5 ***** from me! (former USMC).

  • Interservice rivalry is really fucking dumb.

    Way to accomplish nothing.

  • more Like The Chair force

  • I'm gonna say one thing and that is without the navy it really doesn't matter because we will all be up the creek if you know what I mean. Yes, I am a tincan sailor and will always be one.

  • all are one brute forcre of coursde

  • Why do Coasties need to be at least 6 ft tall? So when their boat sinks they can walk ashore.

  • HOOYAH US NAVY!!!!!

  • Coast Guard better than any!!!

  • go navy but lets get one thang stait navy is better than the army

  • And the Air Force is better than everyone!

  • Clarence, let's see an air Forcer try to run my engine room. We all have our missions. I would no more expect an Air Force rating to run my engine room than I could flight captain a fighter. Beware of stating absolutes!!=Stefan=

  • Naval Aviators are far superior to Air Force pilots. The Navy rules the sea. And the Marine Corps kicks the Army's ass in terms of Infantry.

Please, tell me what the Air Force is better at.

  • I personally think the Marines are the best of the best, and they are, but the Air Force saves our asses... Navy hauls us around and Army is there to maintain the cities and bases we have.

  • The Marines are part of the Navy. And it doesn't matter what role we've assigned the Army and Air Force in the current conflict. The fact is, both of their basic functions are done better by the Navy and its Marine Corps. A detachment of Marines could easily maintain control over a city, and Naval Aviators can do everything the Air Force does, but better.

  • best at what. youre telling me a marine knows how to scuba dive into enemy territory, plan explosives, and get to the extraction point without being spotted. or parachute into enemy territory from 10,000 feet, eliminate enemies using close quarters combat with the mp5, rescuring a high profile hostage then swim 2 miles into the sea with fins waiting for extraction? hahha i think not. Can a marine train gurellia forces efficiently and expediantly and turn 20 marines into 100 marines.... NO

  • but other forces can. The point im trying to make is, everyone does what they are supposed to do. Marine infantry are a conventional ground unit, trained in combat. They are mostly made up of your basic infantry grunt. Theres thousands of specialized jobs in the armed forces, and marines is just one of them. And when it comes to combat, there are def harder to get jobs in the military and harder in general.

  • Haha, can a Navy Seal charge into the battle, first in last out? No. They may get the job done, but the Marines always finish the job. Except for vietnam...I don't hate the Navy, I'm just saying, Marines can kick some serious ass.

  • uh.........first of all the navy SEALs ARE the first ones in. SEALs do special missions with the highest priority. They are allways the first in, they do recon, and whatever else is needed, that takes surgical precision. plant explosives or rescue, then they call in a larger force like the marines

  • Too much pride loses battles. Thank goodness you arent a commander.

You haven't got a clue about military diversity as far as combat roles of the different branches go.

  • And what branch are you serving in?

  • Was in Golani Inf. of the IDF.

  • without the USN there n\can be no USMC....

    SEMPER FORTIS!

    SEMPER FIDELIS!

  • what means semper fortis and semper fidelis?

  • always strong, always faithful

  • IYAOYAS!

    SEMPER FORTIS!!!!!!

  • IYAOYAS navy ordinance

  • USMC is so much better their songs better and do they a shit more thne anyone else!

  • If i were you, i would take that back because 1st off....how would EVER judge a branch in the army by a song?! and 2nd of all...The NAVY CORPSMAN help the marines when in need! Im not saying that the navy is better then anything...im saying that a song shouldnt judge ANYbody....anyone with me?

  • by the way that was to the person under this

  • 2shan, I am deffinately with you. Each branch of the military has it's own deffinate mission. The Army is better at it's mission than the Navy ever could be. By the same token, the Navy is better at it's mission than the Army. And the Marines excell at their mission. We are all part of the whole. No one service can do it all!!!(As for myself, I'm partial to the Navy). =Stefan=, USN(RET)

  • I completely agree.

And I'm so glad that that ****ing cretin isn't pestering you on this site.

  • kent, glad to hear from you. I'm still around. Supporting our troops. Thank you for not believing in "chenglokl". I don't know who he is, but I will find out!once again, thanks. =Stefan=

  • i disagree the USAF can do it all no need to send men when we can send a moab or a hydro up there ass

  • leon, have you ever met a pilot?? They WANT to be at the controls of that ship. As for the USAF, we don't call them "Flying Busboys" for nothing. And look at that uniform!!!=stefan= p.s. a little service rivalry.

  • yes yes i know but honestly the navy doesn't have the technology the air force does and im not choosing sides because i want to be a naval fighter pilot lol yeah my dad loves his old vietnam navy uniform

  • Well done!! Naval Air '68 - '74.

    73,

    KI4NWE

  • i beat down who insults my corpsman. they saved my life......marine down, corpsman up.

  • Our Navy Is The strongest In the World

  • Im a vet. Navy was my first choice, but they wouldnt take me because I didnt have a high school diploma. I ended up in the army and still remember the tales my uncle told me about the Navy of his day.

Im 47 and to this day, I still have a love of the navy and stand at awe when I look at such historical ships as the Missouri or see films and pictures of the carrier Forrestal.

Thank you for the footage you posted. Wonderful job.

...if you like the forrestal you should read the book "sailors to the end" its about the fire

  • @parkinsouth The USS Forest Fire We had to watch that in boot camp back in 1979... Foam, then water to wash away the foam..... horrible

  • I may be a land Lubber now, but my heart will always be at sea. This old salt will always cherish Our Song. GO NAVY

  • My Father is 82 and has throat cancer and has gone through chemo and radiation. He lied about his age in 1942 and joined the Navy. He retired after 42 years, (active and reserve) then my son joined in 1999 and spent 4 years. We are realistic and hoping for the military to do something for his funeral. God forbid that happens soon!! They did supply us with a new lid "hat" for him, and only charged us $82.00. We thought that was nice!!!!!! I Love and thank all of our military personnel.

  • Another great video Randy. Thanks to you, many people are able to see videos they would normally never view.

  • this was a very good video thank you so much for putting it out there my daughter just got out of the navy and is getting married in june of 09 to a navy man who is retiring thank you again wb7dnm

  • good luck, maybe we will see each other and not know it

  • I'm joining the Marines in 2010, and service in the Navy afterwards. Can't wait to be a Marine and a sailor!

  • I was retired of Japanese Navy. I love U.S.Navy.

I love USA too. m(..)m It mean thanks very mach.

  • Thank you most kindly for your words, Tono. I spent some time in your wonderful country while aboard the USS Hoel ( DDG-13 ). We made stops there in the early 70's. I have never forgotten the politeness of the Japanese people. Nor have I forgotten the beauty of the Japanese women. I mean that only in the most respecful way. I have always said if I could not live in the USA I would live in Japan.

  • Always stops me in my tracks when I hear this. From our Navy family to yours, fair winds and following seas.

  • omg some here!

  • I'm in the marching band at my school and we have to play this for my school's NJROTC inspection. I love playing it.

  • wat do u play?

  • Clarinet

  • cool! i play French horn!

  • Thats not anchors aweigh.

  • It is, it's the full composition. ;)

  • Right, sorry. Now I'm embarrassed.

Anchors Aweigh, what greater song is there?

  • There is not greater song.

This song motivates me every time. I work out better listening to this.

  • Is there anyway you can send the song to me? Via email?

  • for those about to rock we salute you

  • hey did you get this music from the U.S. Navy site or from the CD "songs of the U.S. Navy? just wondering
