So glad there's a catchy song that describes my feelings for this shithole. If this song had been written recently, they could've also mentioned our lack of a transit system.
Led Zeppelin isnt Led Zeppelin with out John Bohnam. Pink Floyd aint Pink aint Pink Floyd without Syd Barret. The Greatful Dead aint the Greatful Dead without Jerry Garcia. And the Barenaked Ladies sure as hell aint the Barenaked Ladies without Steven Paige. More Paige = More Awsome.
Is this about Halifax? Yes, it is...but I think (perhaps because "Gordon" came out the summer of 92, right before I started university) that it's really about a typical frosh year. You discover a new place/city, try everything about it and for a time, you get tired of the city (it becomes your enemy). And this remains one of my favourite BNL songs of all time.
100% this song is about Halifax... The Palace... last chance for romance in halifax... the sun never does shine on Barrington street, trust me, i live on it.
Keeping a band together. That is a question. If we could only understand that our egos are inconsequential. I am so sorry to see him leave the band. Their music defined the first part of my life...somewhat
I think they wrote this song because they hated their visit to Halifax. But if you party at the Palace in a turtleneck you're pretty much asking for it.

I love how this song is about Halifax. Live just a few hours outside the city... I understand.
