The coffeeshop is nothing like what it used to be in the period from 1998 till 2005. It had different owners. Best hasj and weed in town and an amazing group of customers. There was so much fun going on back then. I'm sure these people are nice but they will never make it as legendary as the coffeeshop used to be. It was known amongst EVERY dj and organiser in Amsterdam that's big now because of the dj bar "Vaaghuyzen" across from it where all of them used to go to dj and practice and party.

@dictabeat I didn't discover this coffeeshop until 2009 but it had good reviews which said good words about the new owners, so I decided to check it out and I loved it. I would definitely return and bring friends.

in there in a week!!!! and i need some help about...what to smoke...im from spain and im a good smoker of hash....but i use to smoke marihuana sometimes......i think you cant do a joint with tobacco.....so,,how do u smoke hash??? and what about prices??? how much its a coke or a coffe??? thanks to any one.....

Hash is available in virtually all coffeeshops and most will carry a few different types.

A couple coffeeshops I can recommend off the top of my head that sell good hash are Stix, Dampkring, Dolphins, de Tweede Kamer (same company as Dampkring) and Mellow Yellow. Expect to pay between €5 and €12 a gram.

In most shops you can use tobacco if you keep it 'under the table' i.e. out of sight, out of mind. Drinks will cost about €2-3.

Yes, El Guapo is close to Centraal Station but there are coffeeshops that are much closer than El Guapo. There are a lot of coffeeshops along Spuistraat or just off Spuistraat. There are several coffeeshops near Dam Square as well. You should take a look at the Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory for a map of coffeeshop locations and reviews written by people who have been to the various shops. @tejepollo to smoke hasj , u light the hasj a little bit and take off small piece per piece , and you NEED to add tobacco to a joint and mix it with mariuahana , its not that expensive there , and its a ' coffeeshop '

How much money would you say a trip to amsterdam costs in total? I am thinking about going on a trip there from the U.S. . I was thinking about $1,200 - $1,500..? or am i looking at hotels that are too expensive? are their nice cheap hotels/

With careful planning and flexible scheduling you should be able to do a week in Amsterdam for under $1500, I would say under $1200 is more realistic. There are several nice cheap hotels and hostels. Which hotels have you been looking at? When are you planning to go?

For my 18th birthday I am planning a trip to Amsterdam. I am only 15 now (almost 16) and I am starting to put money a side a little a time for it. I am thinking that for a week there which i included everything(paying for half the hotel bill,food,travel,spending money) and it came out to about $5000.00 Dollars. Is that enough or to much?

That should be plenty, when you figure in inflation and what have you. The cheapest I ever did a trip was 10 days for just under $1000 and that includes airfare, but that was back in 2001.

Late winter into early spring, usually before Easter is the best part of the "off season" for Amsterdam. As for coffeeshops in the Centrum, there are dozens with a variety of themes and decor, finding a place where you're comfortable is important. El Guapo is a great shop. I also recommend The Greenhouse Effect. I was sitting in El Guapo exactly a week ago today, smoking a blunt of the amazing Amnesia. Wish I was still there :(

It's a great little coffeeshop just around the corner from Dam Square, it was right next to our hotel so we were over the moon.

Guy serving us was a Turkish dude called JJ, real nice and genuine bloke. He gave us OJs on the house for helping him with a laptop while we were blazing up lol.

I'd definately recommend El Guapo to anyone travelling to Dam!

I would just like to listen some music and this is the main factor, when i take my choice.

i can recommend:

#The Abraxas (at the dam); has one of the best interior design, very amazing! also has a large selection and no intrusive music. very relaxed!

#The Rokerji (at CS); relaxing music, good selection, awesome interior design and a little "winter garden" at the front - very relaxed! and very friendly personnel

#The Tweedys (closed to vondelpark): like a youth club, scarcely tourists, very good music, nice for a backgammon session ;)

The term "chocolate" is used as a slang term for hash. They don't actually sell chocolate made with hash. That used to be available at Chocolata but now that shop has been taken over by Abraxas and they no longer have the bon-bons.
