really great game, giving it a 9.9. The only thing i think they need to work on is the amount of required battles, i had a lvl 49 stocke (yeah, really underleveled) on my first playthrough.
HCbailly is at fault nobody can afford the game anymore... well, 10k viewers with like... 100k printed games... that's 10%, not bad. If all of us buy it.
I really like the game, but I think HC is a tad exagerrating it's awesomeness. It's great bbut it's not as perfect as he makes it out to be... still, one of the best games I'm aware of.
Hcbailly, have you played Okamiden? While watching the ll, I kept thinking the two games main song sounded similar, then comes the heroic sacrifice in the end. Two very similar, very good games
Thanks for recommending this game I really enjoyed it and it is one of my all time favorites as well. I may have never looked into this game if you hadn't have lp'ed it. I am really hoping it gets a sequel as well!
I wouldn't consider the ending to be a cop out, but then again I think the term cop out is abused anyway. To me the key isn't what's achieved in the ending, but how it's achieved that makes the difference.
Will you beat the last bosses easily or give yourself limitations?
- give limitations
Are you sure?
- yes
HCBailly went along and gave himself limitations while fighting the last bosses. The fights went smoothly and he won every battle easily anyways. Unfortunately, the video went a few minutes long and the video had to be cut during the scene that got him choked up. The experience was ruined for all the viewers.
Honestly, I don't see that as a cop-out ending. It really is more of a reward to the player. Through your own hard work, your character gets to live on. If you don't put the work into it, then there is no other way out. I like that. :) Great game. Great LP, Mr. Bailly. It's hard to say, but this may be my favorite LP of yours to date. :)
I think a sequel to this game is VERY possible. I mean your characters can go on another adventure to TRULY stop the desertification from some ancient evil that wiped out the imperials or something.
I wouldn't quite say Heiss is accepting punishment for what he did, what he realized was that he could not accomplish his complete goal no matter what, and if he just died Stocke would sacrifice himself. Since Heiss still cared about Stocke he figured that if he was going to die anyway it might as well be by saving the life of Stocke. I don't think he felt remorse for his initial goals.
I was always wondering why couldn't we just make Heiss the sacrifice but the ending did feel like it was too happy going for my taste. I was just so ready for him to give up his life and everything.
If they made a sequel, it would be nice to make it so Heiss is brought back, as if someone hates the world, and you actually have Heiss and other characters, like an older Aht, or Rosch's son/daughter.
But a Prequel would give more back story, such as the creator of the chronicles.
Didn't have a lot of expectations for the first Final Fantasy either. What Square thought was that THAT was going to be their last game, because all other were failures.... all 5 others. So they threw everything into it. Bioshock was considered terrible, until it got ACTUAL people playing it. And Pikmin sells thousands world wide, but the third game is scheduled for release in Spring sometime. THIS GAME WILL HAVE A SQUEAL!
When HCBailly said that this game "cracks" his top 3 and says it's an all time favorite, does he mean that this game is now his number 1 favorite game of all time?
WOW! what an amazing game, that was great, cant wait for the next one, your my second favorite LPer HCBailly, love how you analyze things, and then just dominate the game with knowledge and experience
I find it strange that the LP ended at 88 and you can travel Back to the Future XD
Anyways, I'm going to be buying this game in the near future thanks to your LP. It's definitely up there as an enjoyable game. I'd love to play it myself. You really know how to pick LP's. ~_^
@hcbailly great job on this lp, it has really made me want to get a ds and buy this game but i have little money... lol thanks for introducing this great non squenix game to me.
I love this game, I wish I could've bought it but they never had them in stock (no pun intended). This game is really good, I loved the plot and how they used the music to set the emotion certain parts of the game really choked me up.
If this game has a sequel or prequel I will definitely buy it.
I have to ask, how many people get the feeling that Lippti and Teo are the Conut Man's kids? I know, it doesn't quite make sense... but aside from the whole 'restoration of mana' reason behind their assurance that you should successfully do his quest, they were kind of overly insistent on it. As well as the imagery of them appearing behind the boy and girl as they're leaving. I actually wonder if the Chronicles weren't created in a dead future and sent back to the past to fix things.
@Raganui I can understand why you would think that but it seems a little too far-fetched for that to be the case...but then again...this is a JRPG so anything can happen. Maybe an incident after studying the Mana Tree caused them to become bound to the Chronicles? But still the whole "programs of the book from the dead civilization" is the more likely of the two.
All good things come to an end, but only so they can make room for new good things. What a brilliant character Stocke is. If only this development team could save my beloved Final Fantasy. I just can't stand what's happening to the series lately. Really hope 13.2 is gonna be good.
I like how they use An Earnest Desire of Gray in the ending, nice touch. Also as much as a sequel would be great, if they got it wrong it would be heartbreaking. thanks for showing this game, living in europe i never wouldve known this game existed or ordered it before the price spike
The first day you ever mentionned that game in another LP, and hearing you saying how good it was, i bought it. And i'm glad i did! Now thank to you, i'll be able to get the true ending.
So yes, HC Bailly, you had a great impact on this game, and what i choose to play. Thanks.
Th one thing I would disagree on it the music. I think it was fabulous but they were WAAAAY WAAAAAAAAAY too overplayed. To this day the battle theme makes me shudder... and the sad music is no longer sad for me.
I'm pretty sure Stocke is in the scene with the graves at the end, even if you didn't finish all the sidequests. So the true ending is probably the "regular" ending; you just get to actually SEE what happens.
goddamn, I'm gonna miss this game. I tell every one of my friends now to go play this if they're into RPGs at all. Probably the first jrpg released in a very long time that really really engages me. Thanks for bringing this one to light, HC.
HCBailly, would you ever consider doing a re-let's play of chrono trigger? Seeing as it's one of your favorite games of all time, and you LPed it so long ago, it would make for a really great LP. You could do the DS version, which has the extra dungeons and such, so it wouldn't be too similar. Maybe you won't, but I really love chrono trigger and it would make me so happy to see you playing through it. And I'm sure a lot of your fans would be happy with it too!
Yeah...thanks HC. Now this game is over $100.00 thanks to you... But if it wasn't because of you I would of completely passed over this game. Atlus generally makes such shitty games...and then this gem comes along. Thanks for introducing me to its greatness ($60.00 later). Keep up the good work /
this was a great lp. i was even motivated on school just because i wanted to see an episode every day. i hope they would one day think about a sequel.
I could say one thing: Yoko Shimomura did the music. So if Yoko did the music, there's already a guarantee on the game. Same goes for Kingdom Hearts, Legend of Mana(haven't played that) and such.
I take back what I said. Raynie's ending wasn't the one that got to me the most. It was Heiss' sacrifice and Stocke getting to live. You have no idea what my reaction was when I saw that the first time.
Thank you, HCBailly, for introducing this game to us, and for providing 88 videos worth of reasons why this is my favourite game of all time.
I have watched every single let's play you have done and enjoyed them all greatly, just as I have this one. But I must say that I watched this one more for you and less for the game. I just could not get into this game for some reason. I can't put my finger on why either. I'm very glad you enjoyed making it, but I must say I am very much looking forward to ff4.
That was a really brilliant story. I'm choked up. I loved every minute of this, and thought that everything about it was perfect. It was just... just... GUH!
Wow. This LP was simply awesome! Great commentary on a great game. Though I'll miss this one, I look forward to the next LP. Also, the piano arrangements for some of the songs are amazing!
HCBailly isn't lying people are selling this game on amazon for 1000 bucks, even the used ones range from 70 and up. good thing I got mine when it was still fresh.
I didn't hear about this game until after it had released. I missed out on the opportunity to get money down on a pre-order and as a consequence my store had run out of its stock before I could buy it. I didn't see another copy until 5 months later when one of my regulars brought it in along with all original casing and the soundtrack. Needless to say I was more then ecstatic about the find and actually bought the game not ten seconds after it had come in on trade.
You're one of my favorite LPers but I haven't seen many of your LPs because turn-based games tend to lose my interest easily; this has been one that intrigued me from the beginning and kept me interested throughout. Amazing game that I wish more people had access to!
Honestly, HCBailly I believe Final Fantasy XII may have the same effect as how your Final Fantasy VII lasted in terms of its length. It takes a major deal of time to do almost everything in the LP.
Moreover, I am very very curious to how you will handle Hell Wyrm and Yiazmat... That will be a sight to see.
Is it just me or does Sonja have a staff in the full body. I'd be willing to bet that was her design from when she was planned to be a party member. Specifically a healer. (unsurprisingly) Man I wish she and Kiel were party members.
Especially Stockes character,I overly enjoyed him being the main character and the experiences he went through to develop,Im glad he survived in the true ending,he definitely deserved it,anyway Im overjoyed to have experienced this lp,I think you conveyed this RPGs greatness perfectly HC,it has become a top favorite of mine thanks to you ^_^
This lp is gonna be immensely missed by me,I haven't felt so enthralled by a game so much before, and I haven't even bought and played the game yet, only trom watching the lp I felt captivated, wanted to know what would happen next, constantly trying to decipher the games plot each day as I watched, loving the music in the game (especially the boss music) and the characters as they were introduced and developed along the way,I loved it all cont.
I really hope this game inspires more JRPGS to step it up a notch. This is one of the few games where I grew so fond of the characters so quickly, and the story was amazing. It was blunt when it needed to be yet vague enough where the player can envision their own details, and Mrs. Shimomura blew me out of the water with that sound track. Come on Japan. Get another game like this out here.
I have been thinking of buying this game...back before you even started this LP. If only because that I have watched several of you LP's by now. And as you said would say you couldn't wait until this LP. That you love this game. It convinced me I really should buy it. I just have not had the money yet to do so. Watching the LP convinced me even more so that it would'd be worth the buy, Since your opinoin of this game is so high and it looks so awesome...well...it HAS to be good.
The most hilarious part of the price gouging is the japanese versions, which are common as dirt, selling for over $60 on ebay. I tried to get the US version but gave up at the $70 mark and got a japanese copy. Finally used my japanese major for something useful!
Really kicking myself that I didn't seek out this game when HCBailly started plugging it months ago...can't bring myself to pay $75-100 for a used copy now.
@willkayegmail Wow, crazy it's so high now. I bought my copy a couple months before HC started this LP. Got it used for $28 on amazon. Interesting to see the price nearly triple. Thanks for driving the price up HC.
Well, I'm not gonna lie, Radiant Historia is easily one of the best if not THE best game I've played in the last 15 years. I also really enjoyed your fantastic LP, many thanks for that and I'm looking forward to your next LP!
I feel the same way about Stocke. I can't believe how much I liked his character, I hope it counts as praise when I say he reminds me of Ramza from FFT.
you seriouly made the game fucking awesome HCBailly, but the game itself, i think you're over-rating it a little because you really got into it and love it so much, great job, such a shame it had to end, it was an awesome lp
@chaggo21 I guess you haven't played through the game yourself. He really isn't overrating it, I would even go that far and say you can't vote that game high enough.
Barely any game I've played in the last 15 years had touched me like this one, and I'd say you can only experience the same if you play through the game yourself.
I was on the verge of tears on my first (100%) playthrough, and the only game I can remember that did that to me was Final Fantasy 6 / 3 back in 1994.
@JamesAedan yeah man, but that was precisely my point, the fact that you cried and the story of the game was awesome and the characters were awesome etc etc doesnt mean the game hits the 10 on everything, like graphics, HCBailly said it himself, he was gonna give it a 9 but because he was feeling so much love for the game he gave it a 10, and last time i checked that was called over rating...
@chaggo21 Yes, I see what you mean, and you're right if you see it in a technical way.
For a DS the graphics are good, but especially they are fitting.
For a rating, I've seen ratings between 80% and 96%. I'm a fanboy for that game, no question. But I don't think that game should have a rating under 90%, if uncreative, shitty games with a big name behind are getting 90%+ ratings.
And with the point system it's kinda hard, it's not a full 10, true, but neither a 9.
I can't wait until Final Fantasy IV. It will definitely be interesting how you cover it compared to your original run of it with the J2E translation....
Wait just a minute .... If only one person is needed for the sacrifice (of the granorg family line) then why are there two chronicles? Sorry if this was explained before.
Wait... Both timelines come together in the end to form one? Isn't that technically impossible? Fucking paradoxes man :s but still great LP HC :D Really enjoyed it and I look forward to your next one :)
Wow, At first I didn't think I was going to like this lets play. But I am just shocked to see this amazing game. Just wow, If I can find it and fix my DS I will sure as hell play it.
I really love this ending- I watched the second-part of the finale this morning assuming Stocke died in the third part. All in all, a great LP.
I can't wait for you to start the new FFIV series, though. I started watching your channel in the interim between your original IV LP and the start of Chrono Trigger, so it'll be fun to see you redo your favorite game with your new enthusiasm.
HcBailly, Did you Realised that, Because of this LP, and Because of your awesome commentary, You might be one of the reason why there will be a Sequel/Prequel to this game?
Oh wow, they actually made Heiss into a Darth Vader, and THEN made him back into an Anakin Skywalker. Wow. "Tell your sister... you were RIIIIIGHT." Hahaa...man, you even ended on episode EIGHTY-EIGHT, as if that wasn't another great trilogy, and one on time-travel too, ha. Thanks a lot for doing it, especially for going through the trouble to make a new set-up for doing DS games. I wouldn't have really known about it otherwise, thanks!
this is actually a really interesting ending i was wishing the whole time that stocke would in fact die. i hate it when games create this impossible situation only to deus ex machina the ending. that being said, if he dies under normal circumstances and completing those side-quests changes that fate then i love it!!! the ability to actually change the outcome of a situation?!?! how novel an idea!!!!
This is definitely a diamond among portable jRPGs. Great game, great LP. Battle system was definitely easy looking, but was still very fun to watch. I really like how they handled the 'hidden scenes' being the future. It was like we were seeing the world Heiss took a peak into when he decided to be the sacrifice instead of Stocke. Brilliantly done, superb idea all around from the developers on that point.
Looking forward to the next LP HC. Have a GOOD day. :)
FFXII is another modern game that reuses music a lot. I wonder if you feel the same about the music still not feeling repetitive there.
Thanks for another great LP.

But this is one of my favorite games i ever played

I could say one thing: Yoko Shimomura did the music. So if Yoko did the music, there's already a guarantee on the game. Same goes for Kingdom Hearts, Legend of Mana(haven't played that) and such.

I take back what I said. Raynie's ending wasn't the one that got to me the most. It was Heiss' sacrifice and Stocke getting to live. You have no idea what my reaction was when I saw that the first time.
Thank you, HCBailly, for introducing this game to us, and for providing 88 videos worth of reasons why this is my favourite game of all time.

Good thing I bought it when you first released your Tech. Demo of the game...

KentoKaima 1 month ago
I really hope this game inspires more JRPGS to step it up a notch. This is one of the few games where I grew so fond of the characters so quickly, and the story was amazing. It was blunt when it needed to be yet vague enough where the player can envision their own details, and Mrs. Shimomura blew me out of the water with that sound track. Come on Japan. Get another game like this out here.
EminaiSai 1 month ago

Finally used my japanese major for something useful!

you seriouly made the game fucking awesome HCBailly, but the game itself, i think you're over-rating it a little because you really got into it and love it so much, great job, such a shame it had to end, it was an awesome lp
chaggo21 1 month ago
@chaggo21 I guess you haven't played through the game yourself. He really isn't overrating it, I would even go that far and say you can't vote that game high enough.
Barely any game I've played in the last 15 years had touched me like this one, and I'd say you can only experience the same if you play through the game yourself.
I was on the verge of tears on my first (100%) playthrough, and the only game I can remember that did that to me was Final Fantasy 6 / 3 back in 1994.
JamesAedan 1 month ago
@JamesAedan yeah man, but that was precisely my point, the fact that you cried and the story of the game was awesome and the characters were awesome etc etc doesnt mean the game hits the 10 on everything, like graphics, HCBailly said it himself, he was gonna give it a 9 but because he was feeling so much love for the game he gave it a 10, and last time i checked that was called over rating...
chaggo21 1 month ago
@chaggo21 Yes, I see what you mean, and you're right if you see it in a technical way.
For a DS the graphics are good, but especially they are fitting.
For a rating, I've seen ratings between 80% and 96%. I'm a fanboy for that game, no question. But I don't think that game should have a rating under 90%, if uncreative, shitty games with a big name behind are getting 90%+ ratings.
And with the point system it's kinda hard, it's not a full 10, true, but neither a 9.
A 9,4? I dunno haha
JamesAedan 1 month ago
This game was brutally good. Holy hell, they don't make games like this anymore. Definately earns a spot on my favorites list.
