Barry Humphries is very old school when it comes to Dame Edna, early drag performers were the same way with their alter-egos, the characters were entities in and of themselves, people knew they were not really women, but the characters they portrayed were all female. when you see dame Edna you are getting a glimpse into a very antique style of drag, its quite fascinating
I mean no disrespect to my late mother but on more than one occassion Dame Edna has brought back some very fond memories of her. I'll have to check this out. Looks like a fun read.
