i dont think chess is sport...and i dont matter, i will still going to play it. i believe is something closer to music and paint. A discipline in wich brain rejoice beauty.
Chess is a sport because it takes a combination of mental abilities, many of which are used in a variety of different sports and many of which are not; however, the only physical exertions one must make to play chess are the lifting of small, wooden piece and the utterance "...checkmate..."
I would describe chess as a debate of minds. A debate where there are opening arguments, sheer logic and calculation, and where many times someone is left embarrassed due to their lack of preparation.
@poprockssuck87 you are forgetting that you can burn a lot of calories by thinking, Neurology Robert Sapolski (you can see some videos of him here in youtube) said in a conference "chess masters in the middle of a tournament, they are going through six to seven thousand calories a day thinking"
@poprockssuck87 Some of the matches with Standard Time Controls last 3.5 hrs or more, and some tournaments require you to play two such games a day for a week. It is physically taxing, but does not require any physical ability except stamina and fortitude.
there should be refutations of course this game has millions of options, its not forced. but the game is beautiful! i wonder if the man who were playing this was thinking about that trap even at the beginning of that bishop alignments and pawn decline, probably he did, so early, its beautiful.

After Bxd3 he says that white is just one pawn down now, when in fact the material is even. Maybe he thought one of those bishops was a pawn. =)
