  • I want to hear Homer Simpson sing this song.

  • I'm gonna tell you like this, the Trout Mask album is just like watching a long, complicated movie; you're not going to get everything at first listen. When you do, you will know that this is THE best album ever recorded in the history of time. My Human Gets Me Blues is like cramming 200 different compositions into six instruments, having only three minutes to perform it

  • I just found out about this song, this is poetry!

  • Being that you don't like beefheart, I guess you probably don't like zappa either.

  • I can't stop listening to this. It sounds different every time.

  • grounded

  • this album is a really rock masterpiece.

the guy who said that it isn't art:

"if this isn't art, what is?, the stupid 3 minute silly pop of the beatles or

this 2 minutes incredible original fusion of blues and avantgarde.

  • This song is literally insane and accept it and love it for that.

  • I don't understand: I've heard so many people say this song involves two competing guitars that, by the end of the song, seem to work together instead of against each other. But I never really heard them click together.

  • beefheart encompasses two extremes of the spectrum: the primitive voice and the avant-garde arrangement and lyrics. that's why he's a fuckin genius

  • Next time I'm depressed, I'm listening to this with headphones on. I expect to leave my mind on the floor.

  • @Ericthekfukhedmidget Like all timeless albums, its a grower. I felt the same way you did until one day i listened to it while depressed, It stuck ever since then...

  • @Ericthekfukhedmidget

Who do you think you are, telling people what to think? Simmer down, man.

  • @Ericthekfukhedmidget You fucking suck. What have you ever done? Your entire life will be an exclamation of mediocrity. Well done.

  • @Lpoolboy LOL

  • @Ericthekfukhedmidget Obvious troll is obvious...

  • @Ericthekfukhedmidget i like your comment on this video, because you are the reason why "my human gets me blues" right now.. btw how do people like you actually end on this kind of music?

  • @Ericthekfukhedmidget It takes time to get into Beefheart. I hated it at first, now I love it, as is the way with most good music. But if you're on here just to troll then you can fuck off.

  • Awesome play on words.

  • NAVY FAWK!

  • @LaxATivvz I understand what you are saying. I have older friends who liked the Beatles when they played the cavern basement and hate it when everybody caught on. I have another friend who put me onto Duran Duran before they hit it big. They are people who go against the grain of what the Media says is "good". 90% of what's out here sucks and Radio is pretty much dead. To me....and I'm saying just to me......I heard no brilliance in the playing or singing. Blame the Beatles, Stones, Prince etc..

  • There are people who can't play worth a lick, but they think they sound good to themselves. If someboby gets it, I say good for them. 2 hours of jungle drumming may work for somebody. I say good for ya. But when guitars are out of tune, out of rhythm and vocals sound drunk, I'm off the wagon. Stern and Letterman made a big deal about Beefheart so I wanted to see what the fuss was about. And nothing clicked. There are people out there who get Sarah Palin. I don't, but to each there own.

  • @Sysminsays I was the same way but then I memorized every note in the album =) ;I was also severely depressed...

  • @ChaosTitties: Glad you like it and are over your depression. There are people who like Chitterlings too. Good for em.

  • @Sysminsays I know, the world is a wonderful place :)

  • @Sysminsays There's no denying that Don Van Vilet (Captain Beefheart) and his Magic Band could play like some mean mofos! If you need something a bit more "grounded" from the Captain may I suggest his first album with the Magic Band in 1967, "Safe As Milk." Don Van Vilet was an eccentric in every sense of the word and he purposely wanted the band to play like this for the recording of the album.

  • @MattHatter : People may say the same thing about Prince's music and McCartney early's Wings stuff and I like that music a lot. Some don't. Free form Jazz is horrid to me, but I'm sure there are enough people who like it enough to fill a coffee house. Good for em. It was a total miss for me. But to each there own.....

  • @Sysminsays O.K. fair enough. Don't get me wrong, I don't go out of my way to listen to free form jazz. Like I said, check out "Safe As Milk" his first album, you might like that one. It's more of a psychedelic delta blues album, none of the stuff you hear on THIS one. Speaking of Wings, for me they've always been hit or miss. When Paul got too sappy, it'd turn me off. But the EARLY stuff from "McCartney" to "Wild Life" is my favorite 'cause it's Paul just doing his own thing.

  • muy entretenido tocar esto en la guitarra

  • what.. the...

  • RIP Beefheart, Captain

  • this music makes me happy and gets me going

  • He didn't die, he just went back to venus.

  • @TheFridgeslayer with all those big eyed beans?

  • had to listen to this after hearing of his death. he was truly one of the greatest artists of the last century, the only and best of his kind. RIP love your music 4ver

  • Sorry he's gone but only Zappa, Plasmatic etc etc werdos get this

  • @Sysminsays originality isn't for everyone.

  • @devinmillermedia : Ok maybe I'm out put line for wanting to hear musical instruments in tune, singing in key drum beats in time......my bad. The Bowies, Waters, lennons, strummers and Browns of the world ruined it for me I guess.

  • @Sysminsays You really know little about rock'n'roll history ... Lennon loved the Captain ... Same with Sonic Youth, White Stripes Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. etc. etc. Open your mind and your ass will follow.

  • @devinmillermedia Speaking of asses, You like this crap. Good for you. You don't know me to know what I know about music. I know I've listened and played it for over 40 years and I've never read anywhere that Lennon he liked this puke. Even if he did. He didn't let it rub off. While the peppers are ok, mentioning Sonic Youth explains where you are for me.

  • @Sysminsays "You don't know me to know what I know about music." I know that you know little about knowing how to write a solid sentence, ya know? lol Why are you here again spouting vitriolic opinions that I doubt anyone who likes Beefheart is going to appreciate? Oh yeah, to be a crank troll. Doesn't the world already have enough of those already?

  • @devinmillermedia ...lol... a crank troll ......I guess that's what this music turns anyone with an appreciation for good music into. 16,000 views and only 48 likes kinda says all I need to Mr. Shit for taste. I'm done with you and this horrid ear nightmare of a so called song. So long and enjoy.

  • @Sysminsays If you don't like the song why bother even checking it out? Also, if you say only weirdos get this, that just tells me you have no adventurous spirits. Enjoy being a douchebag.

  • A Legend Gone R.I.P.

  • The key to understanding this album: it's painting. It's abstract painting. You have to have that ability to see music in your mind as paints. Then it'll click for ya.

  • I may love this one best, people went before the Inquisition for expressing these ideas.

  • R.i.p Captain

  • Two words to sum this up: Mostly Harmless.

It brought a wry smile to my face thinking of how this album was created, how my family would react to this "noise," and the avant-garde nature of this music.

It's a perfect reflection of the human condition: we're all crazy to some degree or another.

  • Probably the greatest album ever. And if not the greatest, it definitely matters the most.

  • @Havenscope Huh? Matters the most? To some perhaps, to the public at large, I think not.

  • I think the key to loving this album is listening to it until you've memorized every note. Then you'll see.

  • @curlytoes79 Not needed! All you need to do is understand that this is NOT a bunch of guys playing ANYTHING that comes into their heads on the spot, it's a bunch of guys that LIVED together in a house (basically LOCKED in the house BY the Captain) for 8 solid months until they actually learned to play these songs as they are here, note for bloody note!!! QUITE an impressive accomplishment!!! I was wondering the other day if the `80's era version of King Crimson could've played this stuff as is.

  • @curlytoes79 Yeah that's true in a way. Because most people, when they first listen to it, complain that every song sounds the same. Once you've memorised every note, you can appreciate how varied and intricate it is. But then the next stage is...you have to FEEL the music. Listen to this album in a depressed mood. You will TOTALLY understand it, it won't seem weird any more.

  • @curlytoes79 i don't agree.. unpredictability of notes and memorizing part is the best thing about this music... it's like you can listen to his songs million times and every time it's like a first time... :D

  • That doesn't even look like a Trout.

  • @rba718 because it's a REPLICA

  • @JackBlair2 No it looks like a Carp, Trouts have differently shaped mouths and their heads are more narrow.

    :3

  • @rba718

Because we all totally care what fake fish head he's wearing.

  • @mattcgoulding Indeed, it is an important distinction. I'm glad you agree.

  • @rba718 that's why it's a replica! You have a well honed "trout eye!"

  • This music is pure

  • @Catch22ish ...pure shit

  • @brickstr Ha Ha......go away troll, Lady Gaga awaits you.

  • @brickstr: LOL LOL I wanted to see what the fuss was about. Howard Stern always talked about Capt. Beefheart so I seek out his music then i hear this clap of bile and i think maybe LSD pulls this earache opera together.

  • And I thought The Velvet Underground was hard to listen to.

  • @FetaCheese222 Shame on you XDD!

  • @ZupraVisor I kid, I love the Velvets, but really, their screeching landscapes can be really annoying as hell sometimes.

It's not surprising that Lou Reed went on to make Metal Machine Music, the only album that can possibly compete with Trout Mask Replica.

  • @FetaCheese222 i thought that about bands too, but the more you listen, the more you fall in love.

  • Its almost unbelievable that Trout Mask Replica songs are on the same website as Justin Bieber, Nickelback, Miley Cyrus, etc., let alone the same dimension.

  • Love ya Don, if only for this...

  • @EMILIOMARENGO

You should probably thank Bill, Mark, Antenna Jimmy and John - they were the Magic Band.

  • @FraterSoddi -Right right...let us not forget the Magic Band -the Captain's sequestered outfit at Woodland Hills, locked and under the whip to learn and rehearse the music that would set minds and guts on fire. Also, I must add, the Mascara Snake, occasional clarinettist and witness to this marvelous legend...
