  • sounds much better than a Tama Imperialstar!!

  • can you tell me how many plies they are, and what wood? and how deep are they? what snare are you using?

  • @eddytheyeti2 the plies i am not sure of. the wood is a cheaper Japanese mahogany im assuming. sizes are standard. 14x20 16x16 and 9x13. The snare drum is a 1964 3 ply slingerland wood snare. more information can probably be found on the pearl website or by googling Pearl President. thanks

  • nice... lovin the sound;) i have a kit like that my self, and i love it... the shells are SO thin,.. awesome

  • @andreasstochholm thank you. yes the shells are very thin

  • man i found one of these drum sets for 400 and its in tigers eye wrap there so cool! but i just bought a new drum setrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • @chrisismename nice. post some vids man

  • Sounds beautifull!!!!

  • Gorgeoussssssssssssssssssssss Drums.........love the sound , love the look ...Buddy Rich would Bar UP if he saw this kit!!!

  • the snare sounds gooood !! heads on it please !?

  • Pearl makes a great set of drums. I like the sound of that old kit....

  • Does your kit have

the Pearl logo because I bought some

vintage Pearl drums on Craiglist and they

didn't have the pearl logo, the guy said they were. I need to know//

  • @theguydoingyourmom yes they do have the pearl logo on all 3 drums

  • awesome. i have a presidents series in an orange tiger wrap (gold onyx or something is the actual name. less descriptive.) 22/16/13 with a matching snare. love it.

  • Nice and fluid. Love the toms up high too. The deep thuddy mddy tunings get old after some time.

  • @sullydude24 thanks man.

  • Pearl is a serious drum company, you ignoramuses. They were and I think still are the only company to use hydraulic pressure cylinders to compress the shells while heating the laminate glue to boil. This pressure-saturates the shells giving incredible strength and density. These drums sound like pretty well tuned jazz drums to me.

  • @falconium i can get all sounds out of them so i cant CHOOSE a head for them pearls are just amazing

  • sweet technique...

  • And yes, this is exactly how I remember them sounding. They sounded like crap no matter how I tuned them.

  • @jdtuckley hmm...i think they sound pretty dam good considering what they are. japenese vintage drums that were purchased from craigslist for a couple bucks practically. i have gigged with this kit and have received many offers...

  • @jdtuckley Well if they were tuned correctly they would sound alot better than this

  • My mom bought me one of these new Pearl kits back in 1966. 20/13/16/5 Pink marine pearl, rail tom holder, lugs looked like Slingerland lugs, PEARL metal script logo tacked to each shell like the swivomatic Rogers kits. The shell appeared to be maple with no reinforcing rings. I dumped them after I got my new Rogers Holiday kit several years later. -- Mainly because compared to the Rogers I thought they were crap. Had no idea 40 years old Pearl drums would EVER be considered "vintage."

  • The first Pearl kits copied Rogers and Slingerland, even the tom holder in this clip looks Rogers to me.

  • the toms sound like that because they're tuned for jazz drumming.

  • oh, seriously? i never noticed jazz drumming had that kind of tuning.....

  • that kit is a beauty! :D

  • Sounds beautiful. I love the snare.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice sounds. Great playing.

  • ihave the same kit,i kove it,mine did not have a snare drum when i got it,i will keep looking though,,,i have put a extra bass mounted cymbal on mine.i also use a very old ajax snare8x14 1939 i think,i use fybreskins and play alt rock, ska punk they work well...

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!

  • sweet! just bought a pearl president drum set on craigslist. Mine are blue and white sparkly, similar to yours. This one was made in Taiwan in 1966. There's a little blurb about the history of your set on the Pearl website (on the "History" tab, in the interactive timeline on that page).

    Enjoy!

  • sweet man. thanks for the info i added it to my video description for this video. Im glad theres a little bit of history on these great affordable drums. craigslist is great for japenese import kits. Always keep your eyes pealed for great deals.

  • I really like that wrap.

  • The drums sound very nice and for the money that's great! What is the crash cymbal? Oh on the Presidential Series Drums the 1966 launch of the "President Series," Pearl's first professional-level drum kits, which were developed with the help of jazz artists Art Blakey and J.C. Heard (who was also signed as an endorser). With the President drums Pearl became the first Japanese drum brand to crack the U.S. and United Kingdom markets.

  • The crash is a zildjian 16 a crash probly from the 70's. Pearl president kits were good sets. Its a shame that there isnt more about these drums and other japenese vintage kits.

  • is it coated diplomats on the tops of the toms?!

i use coated diplomats....really thin but beautiful sounding...

    kit sounds amazing!!

  • The tom has a coated diplomat and the Floor tom has a coated ambassador. Thats what the kit came with.. I recently put Evans g1 coated on the tops

  • DUDE!!! I LOVE THAT SNARE SOUND!!!! The rest of the kit sounds good too!

  • thanks!

  • thanks. Im really not sure when the drums were made. I bought these drums off of craigslist for 100 dollars. I put new heads on them thats it. Im looking for the matching snare though. Thanks for the info. Theres really not much info on these drums. Ill check out the pearl website.(thanks jpgillisliveca)

  • That is an absolutely sick drum kit. One day... I will own one.

  • dude love that kit man, vintage sound. but i think pearl presidents were made in the 60s

  • Nice drums I have the same kit 13,16,20 with the original 14"snare have owned them since '81 if you look on the pearl website they have have their old brochures from this I have placed mine to be 66 or 67 but this is the only info i can find yours may be older than 70's the rims and lugs match mine,if you have any info on these kits I would like to hear from you thx
