It sort of struck me - the idea of having a national day dedicated to the letter "L". We'd go around with L's on poles and sing our devotion to the letter L.
I loved this clip sooo much over the years and couldn't figure out how to find it on here until NOOOOOOW what a glorious moment!! his voice amazed me as a kid.
For years, I thought the real words to that song were "Neither a lender nor a borrow'r be. . do not forget. . stay out of dept. . ." from Gilligan's Island.
Then I learned it was an opera. . . I still sang the Gilligan lyrics.
But now, I shall forever sing Low low low. . . .
Awesome! YAAAY For Samual Ramey! Yaaaay for Sesame Street! And Yaaaaaaaay for this video!
I do hope the producers of Sesame Street have preserved all those videotapes. What a historical document of who's who in this time period.
Of course, the kiddies don't realize the quality of the guest stars. I remember one time viewing a Sesame Street broadcast that featured Big Bird, guest star poet Maya Angelou and a bunch of kiddies playing ring around the rosy. I wondered if the kids had any concept who they were rosying with?
you know the phrase greatest thing on the planet gets thrown around a little too much these days... but im pretty sure that this truly is the greatest thing ever. DONE
That is one of his best performances sadly its on sesame street, But I am glad of SS and Looney Toons for introducing children to classical music. Hell my dad only knew classical music cause it was on looney toons as a kid.
Heck yeah--judging by the number of parodies the CTW songwriters based on _Carmen_, I suspect it was one of the producers' favorite opera. Not that there's anything wrong with basing one classic on another, mind you! :-)
This is so truly wonderful that words fail me!

It's from Bizet:Carmen The toreador aria.
You Tube is actually a good place to enjoy some good rendition.
Try Gino Becchi's version for a full blooded, classic interpretation in both sound and spectacle.
