I had my surgery to get that cyst removed 3 weeks ago it is very painful they stitched me up and the stitches tore so they had to remove them and then I just got a wound vac today to help it heal

I have a pilonidal cyst too.... if it's draining fluid does that mean it's infected? It doesn't drain pus or anything, just clear fluid and a little blood. Will it go away on it's own or will I need surgery?

Took a while to heal up, but there's a less chance of the cyst recurring. Now I'm all healed up and better, but you have to make sure to keep the area clean of hairs. Keep good hygiene and keep the area clean shaven lol.
i had this surgery 12/29....i suggest getting it stiched up and sutured...it is a tad more painful but a lot less messy and you do nothing to it....cant get it wet for 10 days so sponge baths get to be a big bitch...no driving either for 10 days...after that they take the suture off....week later the stiches and your golden

Dude, you got lucky, i got it stabbed with needles as you said to numb it, and then he pushed on it, and cut it open. Long story short, it took about 15 minutes for him to stop getting stuff out of it, he then packed it with what he said was 4 feet of gauze..it was horrible, every morning for a week and a half, i had to wake up at 7 am to go back to the ER and have the doc unpack, and re pack it.

Also, if anyone gets this surgery. Packing tip. Take a pain pill before you change the gauze. The first week is obviously where you'll have the most pain. I did the packing myself with a mirror just so I could see what I was doing.
I also found it a lot easier to lay on my side and do it. There's little or no pain doing it this way. I think it's because it takes the weight of your rear and relaxes your muscles.
I had three surgeries for this in five years. It should have only been one. Packing is VERY VERY important. It's almost completely healed now (surgery was 31st of August.
It's not as painful as it looks. If anyone has any questions, I'm a pro. lol
Unfourtuently yes..Im still recovering today and its 08-23-09 and I got my surgery on June 11th 09...So yea i missed all of training camp for football.

i had my pilonidal cyst removed twice oh and remember to get checked for burrows (yeah i had one). my woundtenders (or whatchamacallthem) nurses tried to use a bandage with silver in them it may help (didn't on me though, only made it worse)

Im getting mine done tomorrow and it will not be getting stitches, so my question is... how long did you have to miss work? I was told about 2 to 3 weeks but I think that's too short... I walk a lot and lift heavy things... and what about pain killers? what kind do you get? are they strong enough???

depending on the size, but usually u can get back to work within a month. the painkillers they give u are typically plenty, i got oxycodon and was fine
i had that same thing. make sure you scrub the inside of it in the shower. i used the massage setting on the shower head and pointed it straight in. it will help it heal and make sure it doesnt come back. good luck.

how in the name of zeus's butt hole are you walking around without that patched up? my advice is...soak the gause in salene. it cleans up the wound and helps heal faster. my moms a nurse and she used salene and with in a month or two it was closed and heal. when taking a shower use anti bacterial liquid soap. oh shave your hair on your ass. that was causes thesse goddamn pilonidal misery.
He has to leave it open like that. It has to heal from the inside out, or else it will just get infected again and he will have to have it cut back open.

omg omg omg... I'm SO happy w/ the surgery I got... I had a pilonidal cystectomy and the surgeon scraped it all out and took a picture.... it's a huge crater! :-P but then it was sewn together. There's only a line scar. I'm so glad I didn't have to deal with someone packing gauze INSIDE of me :-P ew :-(

Also, if anyone gets this surgery. Packing tip. Take a pain pill before you change the gauze. The first week is obviously where you'll have the most pain. I did the packing myself with a mirror just so I could see what I was doing.
I also found it a lot easier to lay on my side and do it. There's little or no pain doing it this way. I think it's because it takes the weight of your rear and relaxes your muscles.

Just make sure you have the gauze packed into every corner. You'll thank me later when you don't have to go in for multiple surgeries.

I had three surgeries for this in five years. It should have only been one. Packing is VERY VERY important. It's almost completely healed now (surgery was 31st of August.
It's not as painful as it looks. If anyone has any questions, I'm a pro. lol

Unfourtuently yes..Im still recovering today and its 08-23-09 and I got my surgery on June 11th 09...So yea i missed all of training camp for football.

I had one of these, got the surgery...all was going good, embarrassing thing though, my mom had to pack the wound :(. All was going good though. All healed up, nice little scar...And now I think its coming back :(
p.s. Like all the others, I think you have a real keeper of a friend :D

i just had mine drained about a month and a half ago..
the pressure caused so much pain i couldnt sit down. it felt so much better when the doctor cut it open, the worst part is the packaging.
thats pretty cool of your friend to help you out

I had one of those it hurt like a bastard! It also came back, the first day after the operation when they pull out the gauze was the most painful thing I have ever felt and i've broken both my legs. Thats a great friend right there!!!

Good God that looks like it could be extremely painfull . I had to change the dressing on my appendix wound and that was interesting touching my intestines . Bud I will say this ...you have some SUPER friends to do this for you .

i had my pilonidal cyst removed twice oh and remember to get checked for burrows (yeah i had one). my woundtenders (or whatchamacallthem) nurses tried to use a bandage with silver in them it may help (didn't on me though, only made it worse)

Im getting mine done tomorrow and it will not be getting stitches, so my question is... how long did you have to miss work? I was told about 2 to 3 weeks but I think that's too short... I walk a lot and lift heavy things... and what about pain killers? what kind do you get? are they strong enough???
does anyone have any useful comments that can help me???

depending on the size, but usually u can get back to work within a month. the painkillers they give u are typically plenty, i got oxycodon and was fine

i had that same thing. make sure you scrub the inside of it in the shower. i used the massage setting on the shower head and pointed it straight in. it will help it heal and make sure it doesnt come back. good luck.

I'm getting mine removed in a few months.. same area... but my surgeon is gonna do plastic surgery to close it.. hope it heals fast.. oh well.. no more anal escapades!!

yeah, dermatologist is covered by insurance but i think i'd rather go with a plastic surgeon. right now, i just get corisone injections.

how in the name of zeus's butt hole are you walking around without that patched up? my advice is...soak the gause in salene. it cleans up the wound and helps heal faster. my moms a nurse and she used salene and with in a month or two it was closed and heal. when taking a shower use anti bacterial liquid soap. oh shave your hair on your ass. that was causes thesse goddamn pilonidal misery.

omg omg omg... I'm SO happy w/ the surgery I got... I had a pilonidal cystectomy and the surgeon scraped it all out and took a picture.... it's a huge crater! :-P but then it was sewn together. There's only a line scar. I'm so glad I didn't have to deal with someone packing gauze INSIDE of me :-P ew :-(

Well, it's been exactly 10 days so far and in 5 days, I get my stitches taken out. It still hurts to sit, and I can't drive yet, but it's not too bad.
Hopefully, for both of us, the surgeons who did our surgeries actually DID get everything out, that way the cyst won't come back.
I feel SO lucky to not have a huge hole back there... :-/
Oh, and the surgeon said that I should be FULLY healed within 2-3 weeks. Hopefully he's right! :-)
