  • i liked it but reading the comments i need to know more about mumblecore?!

  • I thought about this movie after I watched it and realized it is a story about telling the truth, once the truth is told at the end it feels so much better.

  • Great film. Very emotional. I really enjoy the subtlety of the mumblecore style; the simplistic yet compelling story-telling. Two thumbs up. Just saw the trailer to “The Lie” and I gotta say mumblecore is going strong.

  • bad

  • I don't know jack shit about this mumblecore thing. But I saw this film a few years ago and I thought it was pretty good.

  • I hate Mumblecore', absolutely fucking detest it, and it's films. Films by autistics about autistics, for autistics. As for the above? Looks fucking unwatchable.

  • I hated this movie. Baghead is somewhat better. But in general, I think the whole mumblecore style sucks.

  • How cute!

  • Is it just me or did this movie make anyone else want to kill a small puppy?

  • love the Duplass brothers! Does anyone know the music they use?

  • @lbrabbit03 the song at the end is Spoon

  • lame

  • This was so funny it was scary. It is a real spit in the eye of the predictable crap Hollywood pumps out every year

  • wt# that's a bad trailer don't know about the movie 0_o

  • The Puffy Chair is one of the best and funniest, most real movies ever made for less than 25k...these guys will go on to be the next Cohen Brothers, with a totally different and original style...

  • @qbr23 so not the next cohen brothers then? :P

  • @qbr23 Or even better, go on to do THE LEAGUE on FX!

  • This is the kind of movie that hipsters love because it seems smarter than a blockbuster, thereby allowing them to feel comfortable substituting it for a book while looking down on the masses.

  • This was potentially the worst piece of shit movie ever made. The script is just awful and a middle schooler could be a better director of photography. Was this movie filmed with a Sony Handycam for fucksake? This movie wasn't made with effort, it was most likely made as a scam. They can make this piece of shit movie with a $100 budget and then make more than it's worth by selling it on Netflix. It's shallow and cheap. I feel bad for the actors in this movie.

  • @gwano93

There was no complexity behind the script, but that was the point. The film was showing simple people on a trip, with the kind of dialogue people in those circumstances would really have.

As for the crappy Sony cam, the film wasn't trying to be anything sophisticated. It was just showing real people in those situations.

If you didn't like the movie, that's perfectly okay. But based on your criticism, you seemed to have missed the whole point and essence of the film.

  • @gwano93 The whole point of the film was simplicity. It's supposed to look like a middle schooler could film it. You obviously don't know anything about the Duplass brothers.

  • @VivaLaSandwich The point of the movie was to make it look like a middle schooler could film it? I thought the point of movies was for entertainment, especially these days.

  • @gwano93 i remember seeing this movie when it came out and i consider it the single WORST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN. i just heard someone call it his favorite and i judged him hardcore. what a pretentious piece of shit movie. and that bearded character is so annoying.

  • @gwano93 Learn a thing or two about the new independent film movement known as Mumblecore. The Puffy Chair, Quiet City, Baghead, ect. You're probably to stupid to appreciate such a film. Movies like these are based on the idea that theres more to film than spectacular special effects & drama-filled plot lines. They capture the moments that most people treasure. I'm never going to fight robots from the planet cybertron. But I will go on a road trip with friends. These films capture those moments.

  • @GrockJake

Real life is for those moments. Movies are for exploding shit and adventures. They are supposed to take you to another world. This movies is an excuse for sucking at that... picked at Sundance by people who have a grudge for talent and pick the worst looking movies out of some deep-rooted jealousy for real skill.

  • @Frontigenics Then as I said, go back to your Transformers and similiar. Not that those movies aren't great. But I've come to appreciate these films more. If you don't enjoy them, don't waste your time on them.

  • @GrockJake boooooooooooooring.

  • @GrockJake Glad to know that anybody who dislikes the genre is "to stupid" to appreciate it, but believe it or not, this is not the only film movement to suggest that there is more to film than special effects and plot. In fact, it is nowhere near the strongest or the most interesting. This movie is incredibly self-aware and banal. It just doesn't work for me.

  • @sleepyasthesouth I usually don't like to say that... but for the person I was relying to, hell- even yourself, I have to reasons to support my hypothesis: 1. You've come onto youtube to comment on trailer of a movie you obviously didn't like 2. You state your OPINION as if it is a fact, for fuck sakes- you even say "in fact, [...]". Anyways, feel free to educate me on this other film movement you talk of, as I'm always open to new things.

  • @GrockJake Yeah, I didn't see who you were replying to. I'm partial to Romanian New Wave, which is doing some awesome things right now. I feel like mumblecore is an interesting experiment that just didn't work out.

  • @GrockJake Anytime someone invokes the age old "you're probably to stupid to appreciate.." I immediately put on my douche bag deflector shades. I dig movies like this, but I also dig movies where shit blows up, or people get way dramatic, or Jake Gyllehaal has a terrible 9/11 inspired groundhogs day. That doesn't make me any less intelligent or more intelligent, and if you think the movies you watch define how smart you are then you really need to get outside more.

  • i love this movie so much.

  • I saw this on Film4 at like 1 in the morning a few years back. I have great memories of seeing it. I also saw Mutual Appreciation, another mumblecore film, before this one came on. I dug them both, and still do, but I haven't seen them since. Nostalgia.

  • hey mark and jay i would have consensual sex with either of you. just so you know.

  • The film does a great deal of exploring characters and relationships by examining their reactions to new developments and complications... great movie to watch, i found it streaming on

    EasyMediaClick (dot) com

  • Has anyone seen this movie? And if so, where did you see it and what did you think?

  • I rented it from our library. My mom thought it sucked. It was okay-ish. It's a bit of Sofia Coppola's style mixed with the TV show The Office. The Office in that slower-humor kind of a way, and Sofia Coppola because there's not much more of a purpose to the movie than the fact that it's a random, weird adventure. It wasn't that funny, it was definitely less funny than the office. I liked the guy with the beard though haha.

  • Also about the Sofia Coppola aspect of this, the imagery and the details of the movie were really good.

  • America dvd. Brilliant :)

  • @gmt903 It played on Showtime last year...May still be but I don't have Show. anymore. It's really quirky with a unusual premise...But it's a really great film. Excellent character development and quite funny and touching.

  • @gmt903 Watched it at a friends place... he had torrented it... It was pretty good, felt very close to home with some of the relationship drama scenes... all in all, I liked it a lot.

I am glad it's doing so well. I hope you guys come back through Chicago I would love to see it again and talk more.

  • I saw this film. The plot is organic and unconventional. The acting is brilliant. The photography is dynamic and stripped of hollywood gloss. The puffy chair is a journey I encourage you to take. Keep on truckin, Brothers Duplass. I can't wait for your next film!
