What's with the DBZ-esque finisher? Havent touched a Virtual On game since the demo for Operation Moongate, so if this is some sort of new mechanic...
That's a special move for Apharmd B, Hyper Mode; temporary increase in mobility. Worked nicely here because it allowed me to just barely escape Temjin's bomb and off him with melee. But it was just a flashy flourish that happened to work through luck.
It's not just special moves that changed from VOOM, VOOT has more or less completely different mechanics. When I made this video I was pretty new at it. Hadn't even mastered jump canceling yet, which makes a huge difference.
I would love to find a place anywhere in the US that had the arcade version of OT, seems pretty rare. A handful of places have OM, but even they're getting scarce.
Yeah, I paid an arm and a leg for it, but if you're a hardcore mecha fan or just someone who can appreciate ingenious game design, I'd say it's worth saving up importing the sticks.
Very untraditional and intriguing approach to game control. I'm disappointed that so few have attempted to follow in VO's footsteps...
I need to buy the Twin-Stick Controller and this game. I've been searching for a new game challenge (aka a new game for to master), and I think this will be very entertaining.
It sounds weird but I've been searching for that sound byte Ampharmd (as well as a few other virtoids and every single Gundam mech) make.... 00:30 *byuueeeee*
I'll send you that sound, no problem. The file's on my computer at school, but I can dig it up when I get back next week. Let me know if there's any particular format you want it in. What are you collecting the sounds for? I'm curious! = )
Any format is fine by me, I s'pose MP3 is best? In anycase, theres no real reason why I collect sounds, I tend to use them in animations, occasionally when I make music, and for random things like cell phone sfx (my text message for instance is the codec sound from MGS). I've just been searching for this sound for God only knows how long.
It's not an emulation! ^_^ I got an actual Dreamcast and copy of the game off ebay. I even have the uber-rare Twin Sticks controller!
I don't think there is a reliable emulator for Dreamcast yet. If you want to play VOOT you'll need to actually get the game, or somehow find one of the extremely rare arcade machines. The original Virtual-On might be easier to locate, I've seen it in various U.S. arcades.
Oh, I thought it was an emulation because the quality was pretty much screen-capture. I can't afford to buy a dreamcast, though, especially since people overprice things the rarer they get.
Well I'm just a hardcore mech fan and like to get all the mech games I can. Sadly though I think I've sucked the internet dry of them and no new ones exist.
Heh, I feel the same way... There just aren't enough mecha games out there for fans like us.
The quality of this clip was degraded a lot because I brought it into the computer through DV tape, and then the YouTube upload took its toll... It's unfortunate, 'cause the actual graphics are superb, VOOT looks better than a lot of PS2 games, and it has a perfect 60 fps frame rate, no slow-down.
hey men do not know where to download the virtual on ot

I miss this game in the arcade so much.
Was thinking you should've did a grenade kick but your finisher is good too.
I like to get close and melee

If I'd showed this to a casual viewer he'd be convinced that this was a regular TV program. Good job.

Thanks! I wanted to try spicing up the average "playing my favorite video game" video.
I have another username for my non-fan content, too. Search "DVon5000."
BTW, your illustrations totally rock. Seriously great stuff!

Nice. Seems replays are more fun to watch than to play the game...
How did you emulate this, anyway? Is it complicated like PS and Dreamcast and Sega Satur nand stuff? >_>
But yeah, this game looks really fun, I'd really like to try it. I like the graphics style. And by the way, nice climactic finish there.
