  • Boston's Channel 5 was an ABC affiliate from it's first day on the air through December 31st, 1960, becoming a CBS affiliate the next day.

When WCVB took over, Channel 5 returned to ABC, which it has been with ever since.

There is a reason there's a shot of trucks passing the old Boston Herald-Traveler building: That newspaper was the original owner of Channel 5.

  • They were the CBS affiliate at the time and they also aired the Boston version of the kids show Bozo the Clown if I'm no mistaken.

  • What time they were on the air

    on November 26 1957?

1:38: John Day on the air; Hollis Gray at controls

    2:03: Warren Freedman (dark glasses)

    Great memories!

  • The Boston Herald Traveler Annual Report says the move from 6 St James Ave to 50 Morrisey Blvd took place in January 1960. Also the radio news anchor at 1:36 I think is John Day.

  • I seem to have read somewhere that WHDH-AM/FM/TV moved to the new complex around 1962.

  • I saw an early 60s Plymouth Valiant in a parking lot.

  • the last shot is Cameraman Cal Hoyle

  • @ :29 that's legendary Sportscaster Don Gilllis

  • at 1:53 that's Dick Molinari sorting film stock
