From what I can see already NO ONE is asleep at the helm.
To continue. Tech wise. I can assure you this is old footage. A few of the interface elements and the drops where the captain is scanning objects in space... Well that's way different with a mini game like Mass Effect or the Fallout games.
This game has finally reached what I really want in a SCi-Fi Space game. It has RPG elements, Space battleing and complete freedom to go where I wish, and has ground combat that works relatively well. It all goes together too which is wonderful. Also the game speed as far as combat goes is much more improved. It's free on steam now! I would strongly encourage people to at least give this game a try.
@MorteWulfe inventory and bank space is limited, and chat is limited till you've played 20 hours. Not much of anything else is limited. You can also earn c-points in game to unlock the limited stuff.
as someone that played SWTOR's beta for over 6 months... After looking at this I want to personally go to Bioware HQ and pimp slap every employee and punch George Lucas in the mouth for allowing that garbage to be released... I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan and that game made me sick, not sure what was worse the fact the dev's admitted they used the mechanics from WoW to develop their game OR the fact the space fighting was a flash version of star fox ><. I'm downloading this RIGHT now.. it looks SICK

TOR is mainly a ground based game, I'm surprised they released any form of space combat at launch, since they will prolly add open space combat like Star Trek or SWG in an expansion. @CaviusTheGreat It's a LOT different. Battles are much more tactical and deliberate, and the space combat is 1000000000x better (tor's space combat is a joke). They're overall not really comparable though. Completely different games. STO is free though, give it a shot.

you have to set the proxy server to your region first, then lags are mostly eliminated! probably you have a low upload rate too, should be more than 512 kb/sec.

The ground combat reminds me very heavily of Mass Effect. Would be kick ass if Mass Effect added ship to ship combat in the 3rd game like they have in this game :)

STO needs to have a recordable Captain's Log so that the players can record their own missions in their voice to replay once the mission is concluded so that they can then better theirselves through retrospective tactical assimilation.
i downloaded the demo at the request of a friend. i'm not much of a star trek person, but he wanted me to try it... i loved it. played the demo yesterday, buying it today.
@PkMe4Free Thing is with a MMO you still have to download MOST of the game files to be able to join the world with everyone else, even in the trial. You need to be able to see all the armor, ships, and everything that may pass by the starting zones. In other words, pretty much the full game. if you were to upgrade, then you wouldn't have to download much more (if any) to begin playing.
There is a trial for this game on fileplanet (on the top featured demos :/ ). you may want to leave your computer on for the night and go watch tv or go to bed though if you download it. 8.59GB!! (8,590 MB!!) this game is insanely huge and my guess is it is every inch worth what you pay to play it.
the game is good and all its being innovative and new its star trek which a bunch of people like but i just feel that the ground combat is a little slow. a lot of stuff is going on but its a little too slow paced. a little bit more speed and the game would be perfect but thats just my opinion
The playable demo version comes out on May 7th, so i'll be waiting to make my verdict until then. Last time i made a quick decision about starting an MMO, i had an Everquest 2 addiction where i ended up playing by myself until level 45 as a Tank.
So as soon as i get some personal gameplay going, i'll be able to choose.
Also, yeah, this does look a wee bit like Champions Online wearing a Star Trek Costume. Not the gameplay, but the graphics.

@metalangel1 EVE is good, but it is an entirely different game for an entirely different purpose. Star Trek Online is based off a fictional universe, and many of the people that play just want to experience Star Trek. EVE, however, takes an enormous amount of time to get anywhere and is, in my opinion, more boring.

@doreto95 ive got a key for the beta something at--> cdaction.pl/seriale/ polish site and you need to refresh to register at their forum.
use google translate and just register and login.. and go in to that adress ive linked.
Then you can find serials for brothers in arms: road to hill, parabellum and star trek etc.. and speedball for steam to. so try it if you want.. no bullshit ;).

STO needs to have a recordable Captain's Log so that the players can record their own missions in their voice to replay once the mission is concluded so that they can then better theirselves through retrospective tactical assimilation.

Yeah I'm only referring to the demo though which (to me) is abnormally big. (but hey i'm used to 2-6GB games :/. I may be bit retro apparently.

@PkMe4Free Thing is with a MMO you still have to download MOST of the game files to be able to join the world with everyone else, even in the trial. You need to be able to see all the armor, ships, and everything that may pass by the starting zones. In other words, pretty much the full game. if you were to upgrade, then you wouldn't have to download much more (if any) to begin playing.

There is a trial for this game on fileplanet (on the top featured demos :/ ). you may want to leave your computer on for the night and go watch tv or go to bed though if you download it. 8.59GB!! (8,590 MB!!) this game is insanely huge and my guess is it is every inch worth what you pay to play it.

the game is good and all its being innovative and new its star trek which a bunch of people like but i just feel that the ground combat is a little slow. a lot of stuff is going on but its a little too slow paced. a little bit more speed and the game would be perfect but thats just my opinion

The playable demo version comes out on May 7th, so i'll be waiting to make my verdict until then. Last time i made a quick decision about starting an MMO, i had an Everquest 2 addiction where i ended up playing by myself until level 45 as a Tank.
So as soon as i get some personal gameplay going, i'll be able to choose.
Also, yeah, this does look a wee bit like Champions Online wearing a Star Trek Costume. Not the gameplay, but the graphics.

@tomassabbag You have to pay a sub no matter where you get it. The only exception is if you lifetime sub ($230), after that you never have to pay again.

@metalangel1 EVE is good, but it is an entirely different game for an entirely different purpose. Star Trek Online is based off a fictional universe, and many of the people that play just want to experience Star Trek. EVE, however, takes an enormous amount of time to get anywhere and is, in my opinion, more boring.
