Never forget the first time I heard the Ventures and realized who they were. It was a fall Saturday morning in about 1980, was a sixteen year old working in an electronics store at the repair bench. Had to get an 8-track player fixed, so I needed a tape to test it, 8-track inventory was limited, but found a faded cartridge, "The Best of the Ventures". Listened to it all day, making sure the unit was thouroughly "tested" before calling the customer. Been hooked on the Ventures ever since.
Los videos musicales como la de Los VENTURES es lo maximo en musica instrumental, de la calidad ni hablar, todos deberiamos educar el oido para escuchar musica como este.
Anybody know what kind of guitar Nokie is playing here? The figure on the wood is gorgeous as well. I have loved these guys' work since 1962. I was 11. Wow...time is like vapor man!
"Ive got the HitchHiker guitars. Thats my company. People can buy them off of my website. I found a very small amp. It weighs twenty-three pounds. Its got 110 watts and a 8-inch speaker and its really loud. Its under the HitchHiker name too. You cant blow the speaker. You wont believe it! It has 16 selections on it. Youve got two knobs. One is selection and it will give you a little louder of that selection and add reverb to it."
"The guitars retail for about $5,000. The amps are running right around $1,100 and theyre tube. You wont believe the sound! Its only this high and this wide. And everybody that plays through it cant believe it."
Nokie Edwards. The greatest finger picker that has ever been. The Ventures are also the greatest instrumental Rock 'n Roll Band that's ever been. They've sold over 110 million albums world wide and were inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. Thanks for all the years of good music!
however GERRY McGEE is better (if that sounds possible)-I have a video where gerry walks through the audience playing "House of the rising sun" ... not just stand motionless.
Yes, Gerry McGee is good.. but NOT better. I've seen BOTH play together (once in Japan) and Nokie plays rings around him. The reason Nokie "stands motionless" is because he has had a HIP REPLACEMENT. He can barely walk with the METAL hip he's got. Look at him playing in the '60's and you'll see him moving. But NONE of The Ventures ever moved too much. Also, look up who wrote MOST of the songs and Nokie Don & Bob's name with ONLY a very few for Gerry. Their biggest hits were made with Nokie.
They bjust have different styles. McGee is a better blus player, Edwards is a better country style player.
In my opinion, Nokie sound better with the Ventures than Gerry does. I have Gerry's second (I think) solo album "Born in Louisiana", and it's awsome and bluesy. I think he performs a lot better on that CD than he does with the Ventures. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

Nokie is probably the most underated guitar player of ALL time.

I know during a long stretch they were playing Mosrites. Great quitar for lead. Easy fretting. Nokia could play a Wal-Mart and make it sound good.

It's Nokie Edward's own signature guitar called the "Hitchhiker". You can get one at his website.
