The biggest issue with using mono jacks is that you lose the ability to use the passive CV pedals, as the +5 output is somehow cancelled or sent to ground ( I can't remember exactly how it works but they explain it breifly in the MF manuals). The disconnected ring trick sounds like a good idea, though. I could send a CV to the mix jack and still plug in a pedal directly to the frequency jack without having to waste one of my attenuators. Thanks for the tip.
nice sounds you have created and nice melody. I'm a beginner far as making or trying to produce hip hop beats. I love propellerhead programs. That's all I work with. Peace
Awesome stuff. Thanks God there are still people out there that uses not only the hands but the brain too, for doing electronic or experimental music.
can the thor send cv to my little phatty? im trying to grasp the consecp of what your talking about what could i do with my moog and cv from thor? im sure it will all be in the power tols 4 book... cant wait for that power 3 really opened my eyes (and ears) about reason.
Yes, you can use this configuration with a little phatty if you have a compatible motu interface. I don't know the exact details of the Keyboard Gate and Pitch CV inputs on the little phatty, so i'm not sure what kind of cables are required. You might be able to get away with 1/4" TS cables between an 828 and the little phatty, however you might need special cables that go from TR to TS for this to work. You should check the moog forum for details on using the little phatty with volta.
Might I ask why you customized the jack cables to avoid Voltage going back to the Motu? Does this harm an audio interface somehow or is it just mixing up signals your sending?
At first I didn't lift the +5 voltage and I don't think it did any damage to the interface, however after I lifted the contact, the calibration was much different. Obviously, the voltage was causing an offset. This isn't a big deal with 896HD since it has fairly wide range, however with other interfaces with lower output voltages, this could be a problem.
@PeffTV I was wondering about this because the feedback voltage on the ring is supposed to be current limited in case you dont use a pedal or a mono jack, I guess the current drain of not disconnecting it alters the circuit, perhaps the power supply is already maxed.
@PeffTV I was wondering about this because pedal inputs are supposed to be current limited in case you dont connect a pedal or you use a mono jack instead of stereo, the fact that you noticed a difference in tuning before means that the either the power supply is maxed out from the drain or it modified the circuit.
My guess from your videos is that you could use a kenton pro-solo cv/midi converter and use reason for midi-out sequencing... my pet hate with reason has always been the neglected midi out for external hardware collaboration as ive always loved the sequencing cababilities with reason and its next best thing to a studio interface.. now my dreams seem to be coming true.. thanx for your influence peff!! im definatly going to buy a freqbox after seeing this
According to mark of the unicorn, the 24I/O works with Volta, so it would probably work with Reason as well. With 24 outputs you could map 12 CV/Gate pairs.
I have velocity scaling the envelope generator level in Reason. If you're controlling an external VCA, then the amplitude will be scaled with velocity. If you're using the "gate" signal to trigger analog envelope generators of a VCA, the velocity message will probably not do anything.
Yes, it's Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good". A bit of smoothness from when I was a kid. Naturally I butchered it and it's in the wrong key.
I'll post the Reason Files up soon. If you have a MOTU box and a MF-107, there's a ton of cool stuff you could do like having a Reason synth hard syncing to the FreqBox VCO.
What this really needs is a VCA, then it would be a complete mono synth.

Will this still work if Reason is in ReWire mode with Ableton via external instrument..?

Wow, good video. The key part is that motu interface. What is that?

I was speaking with Dave Roberts from MoTU today and he informed me that the 896 Mk III will not support this, but the 896 HD works great.

wow..Motu is incredible..so a Motu 24I/O could work as a midi to 24 channel CV..can i route so i make it a 12 voices with velocity converter too?
