just finish dialoge and save after it !!!than exit the game and load on last save !!! worked for me ... and the first thing i did after he oppened i samshed a firball in his face for giwing me a hard time :p

@franjozubcic Works great thanks man, this method worked for me, while the coding does open the door, on mine he was just stood still and didnt talk. So simple just finish dialogue then save, exit the game then start up again, load, door opens straight away :)

my esbern glitch is pretty severe: I can't hear him, can't read the subtitles because they change so quickly, he won't open the f*cking door and I can't talk to him again. I've tried several tricks that I read from skyrim wiki but nothing works. So I suppose I can't get dragonbane sword... or.. can I?

you can make do with those codes. but if you want to really fix that, it's easy. the bug with esbern it's something with his voice, that's why you cant hear him. to fix it, all you need to do is download "BSA UNPACKER", from nexusmods.

then, you run it, select the file "SKyrim - voices.bsa" which is within ur data file, extract it, then paste it's extracted version inside the date file again. by doing so, you fix him and his quests permanetly, and can even hear him!

This is a different kind of bug.

It takes him at least a minute to open the door because of the amount of locks on it.

If you're on the PC, you can open the door by pressing escape, then opening the code-entering menu by pressing `. (next to the 1 on your keyboard)

Then enter MQ202 160

Door is now open.

I found a way for the door to open but im not sure if this applies to everyone. First i went back to ratway vaults run around the place for a few while and then head back to ratway warrens and to my suprise, the door was opened already. so i just went into the room and talked to esbern.

Extract the sound/voice folder from Extra Sounds located in the games directory, paste it onto your desktop and then paste it from there into the games Data folder and it should fix both the bug with the door and esbern's voice. Google search for the program to extract what I told you, it's called BSA unpacker.

You don't actually have to DO anything to make him open the door, all I did was walk away and kill every enemy in this little area, then he opened the door.

Also did you hear him say "this will just take a moment, this one always sticks" and "ah there we go!" He is unlocking bolts.

For those who can't even hear his voice, and he never opens the door: download ''BsaUnpack'' from tesnexus net and extract all from ''VoicesExtra.bse'' file into you Data gamefolder (this file is also there)'. and you shouldn't have anymore problems with Esbern. Worked for me ~cheers
