Many of us were authors, and we were all explicitly asked to bring His Holiness a few of our books for the library there at Dharamsala... (I'm not in the habit of passing out my books to people)

Thom...thats awesome! You looked really excited. Ive read two of your books. Screwed(twice) and UNequal Protection. Ive passed them both on in hopes they'll be read and passed on. I appreciate your comments.
I don't think that Thom was expressing ego by giving a couple of his books to the Dalai Lama during this gift giving and scarf blessings event.
During the meeting in the video (which is a part of the film "Dalai Lama Renaissance"), there were many promonent writers and thinkers, and many of them gave the Dalai Lama their books (or other gifts).
Everyone was sharing their books (and other gifts) with the Dalai Lama).
