  • I can hear the guitar parts playing in my head in between the lines in the verse...

I've informed you to leave (guitar fillybit)

    Awesome...

  • Holy shit... I love this song and the idea that a solo acoustic of Ed singing it exists just blew my fucking mind. Complete with "Do-de doo's" and everything. Love you Ed.

  • Awesome.

  • reeg

  • great guitarist and vocalist

It's as if I never had a home

  • solo career please Ed?

  • This is a great song. Ed is the man.

  • It is very interesting that Ed wrote this song about his late brother's spirit, as in my own personal mythology a ghost used this song to save my life. I was in a volatile domestic situation, and I was listening to BNL one day I was home alone. I started out listening to "One Week" but 20 seconds later the track changed to "Leave." "I've informed you to leave..." it began. 20 seconds later, the song restarted, telling me to leave again. I changed the track to "In the Car". 20 seconds later...

  • ...it informed me to leave again. I decided to move as a result. But apparently I didn't get out of there quite soon enough. A month later I found myself on the streets after the situation had escalated and had become very unsafe, to put it mildly.

Needless to say, even if it was only a scratch on the disc, I will always consider this song be pivotally important in my life's narrative. It wasn't until after the fact that I realized the song itself mentioned apparitions and is about Ed's brother

  • *****. Great BNL forerevr!

  • I love you Ed! Thanks for signing my ukulele on the Cruis-ah!

  • my favorite barenked ladies song, people may have a different opinion

not a huge fan but they arre without a doubt great

  • Ed Robertson wrote this for his deceased brother. After his brother died in a motorcycle accident Ed dreamed about him a lot, hence the lyrics: "Apparitions still won't leave me alone. It's as if you've never left. How am I supposed to remember you, when you won't let me forget?" (thanks, Lisa - Manchester, CT)

  • I Learned this Song on Guitar, because of "Neccessity".... : (

  • i love this song because ed seems to have so much emotions built into it, thats what music is suposed to be like! thanks for sharring your feelings ed!

  • Ed Robertson can sing!!!!!!!! :)

  • i looooooove the barenaked ladies!! <3

    awesome song!

  • ...i bet im a bigger fan XD, jk jk leave, great song, but testing 1 2 3, am i the only one and light up my room beat it :)

  • THIS IS MY FAVOURITE BNL SONG!!!, listen to it everywhere i go :D, and now with the bathroom sessions, i can really see how complex this song is, amaizing really

  • Nice cover man, keep it up.

  • Oh shit. Not a cover! That's embarrassing lol

  • It's about his dead brother you asshole.

  • @jacobwhatever this is ed tho, not some shitty cover.

  • @DonTheTurtleDude You're a faggot.

  • @jacobwhatever It kind of is? xD An acoustic cover of his own song. So you're right and wrong at the same time.

  • I love this song.

I cant stop listening to it.

  • LanIost

  • thesithwithashotgun:

Wow, ok.. I've been listening to this song for years and never knew thats what it was actually supposed to be about.

Honestly, look at his performance here and with the back story behind it ... I don't even know how to express it really.

  • that makes two of us. I read about him losing his brother in the book the band put out, but I didn't know Ed wrote this song and "Am I The Only One" about it.

  • Wow.. you really like that song. That is the most I've ever seen you get into one of the bathroom sessions. I never thought it would be leave. I also never realized how amazing the guitar work was on this song. The studio version covers up a lot of it but the studio version is equally flawless.

  • what a sexy voice! :D

  • I agree...for starters...and how about those eyes!

  • Great song and a great artist! x

  • ok that was actualy a really good verson of this song

  • Such a great song - hooked me the first time I heard it, and is almost draining when you really listen to it. More powerful here than in the album version, maybe because it's more raw and emotional.

  • In case no one knows, Ed wrote this song about his brother.

He died, and Ed repeatedly dreamed about him.

  • Yeah. This song is about how the ghost of Ed's brother (who died in a motorcycle accident, I believe) is/was haunting him on tour. "Am I The Only One?" was also written about his brother's death. Ed was really upset about it.

  • O_O Woah. I never noticed that...

  • lol. love them! my parents got me hooked on them so im a second generation fan! hahaha. they rock! i wonder when their next cd comes out... perhaps a tour?

  • Excellent Dude! Well done.

  • I love this song. My favourite song live is Pinch Me, but this one is awesome too. Ed, if you read these comments, you should play my favourite BNL song ever some time, When I Fall. Maybe Life in a Nutshell too. Anywho, great work. From Regina, home of the Plains Hotel, which has great Sunday night karekoee, have a good one.

  • great marketing from bnl to put these videos on here this is a sweet song!! keep them comming should play the song.. old apartment (great song)

  • do,doo do dooo sing more, keep them coming. We love em!!!

  • That is just beautiful.

  • hey copas, you think this is good, you should listen to when i fall, or lovers in a dangerous time. these guys are amazing

  • iam not gay or aney thing but him singing like this pulls at all the good things in me like tuging at my soul. i dont know guess i werd

  • not weird at all.. you merely know when you see fine art at its purest.

  • ok, dude, no offence, but if you think that feeling a little bit of emotion when listening to a song makes you gay, you have issues...

  • dude, i know. i was just expressing how i felt, it's ok, really.

  • Youre the one with the issues Ranger, feeling emotion when listening to a song does NOT make you gay, it makes you human. That might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

  • i think you're misunderstanding what he was saying, he was directing that to someone else but didn't "reply" just reposted

  • Ranger was sayin that IF the original commenter thinks feeling emotion to a song makes him gay then he;s the one with issues, as in - dont be embarrassed about appreciating the feeling behind it

youve took his comment completely the wrong way

  • hey fuck u...and its not gay to put emotion in ur music...idiots

  • eeek !

seeing them on the 1st April.

    really can't wait...

  • Do you know who this guy is? Lead singer of the multi-platinum Canadian Band, Barenaked Ladies! You weren't born when they recorded their first album so I can understand somewhat, but these guys are still knocking it out of the park.

  • This is only one of the lead singers.

  • thats awesome! Barenaked Ladies Rocks!

  • My favorite band of all time! Saw them in New Mexico and it was the best concert I ever went to.

  • Yet another awesome job, Ed. You guys need to play this one live more often! Keep up the great work!
