Rubber latex is reletaviely expensive if you can even find it in mass quantity. If you plan to paint over it, just use a mixture of flour and water, which is essentially white glue.  Cheaper that way...

Using this effect means that you can only have your actor facing forward for the effect. And even then, the ribs were not in the right place, they don't go down that far and it looks silly. Second, this would only be good for a quick shot, otherwise it would quickly loose the effect, but it's not like you can film them falling down, cause that wouldn't work!

For a few seconds of material, it would cost you $30, and in the budget world, that's way too expensive.

the "gore box" is basically unnessacary. it would look really cool even if you just chroma key out the blue stomach paint and get a shot of the background by itself, and replace the blue with that. if the ribs showed more it would look awesome, but if they don't, the gore box is just a waste of time.

you need something to simulate the depth of your chest. A chest is about 6 inches thick. if you get rid of the gorebox, the hole will seem flat, no depth. search for hole-in-hand effect on youtube and you will see what i mean

awsome effect. i agree motion tracking would make it look smoother but i think the thing i wanted to see most was the actor standing next to a backround that was not as close to the skin color as the walls shown. it would have given more contrast giving the effect a better visual impact.
