Technique is kinda shaky there, I know he exaggerating some things but that foot should not come off the ground that high and he needs to steal more of her balance rather than straight powering her off the ground while she is flat footed
@Phlyy788 The technique is fine. This a classic Judo throw. The higher you raise the reaping leg the more action you will get out of the reap. He is not powering her over. What you are seeing is her balance being taken as the reaping leg swings through. The reason she is thrown rather than just taken down backwards is because he pulled her off balance before executing the technique. It would have been better demonstrated with a larger opponent so that we wouldn't assume he is powering her over.
i just started taking judo lessons and i really liked it it is awesome i just have a small problem in the names but i will try to memorize them :D my first throw was Osto-gari and Seionagi i think it is how it is wrote :D
ya my dojo, this one canadian champion a while ago, like aaron davies, or erin davis not sure which he got his black belt in 5 years and he never lost a tourny so.
@EmpiricalTruth judo was invented to kill. it was fighting style of samurais, who dont punch someone in their armor like karate, cause it doesnt hurt, instead you throw your opponent to the ground on the battlefield, and finish him off by for ex. stabbing him with a dagger. Imnot 100% sure but i think this is it.
I am afraid you're wrong. Judo was developed by Jigoro Kano in 1882 as a reformation of jiujitsu...which was the method of fighting employed by the Samurai. It's an art that is meant to use an opponents own force against him. As Zealot said above, the techniques are meant to be performed with maximum efficiency and minimal effort.
@peterscoop Well ur right one about thing.. your most deffinately not 100% sure. What EmpiricalTruth said is true, also I wanna add judo is made from japanese Jujutsu... Jujutsu is what the samurais used
@EmpiricalTruth There is actually a massive amount of technical finesse in a good o soto gari. The direction of kuzushi, the proper fitting in, and the correct reaping motion of the leg take hours of refinement, and if done properly can be devastating while expending almost no energy on tori's part.
It might come as a surprise to you, but in Japan, Shodan is seen as the very first step on the path of all their martial arts. It means you have an understanding of the mechanics, principles and techniques of your art - not a mastery of them. It's nothing special, it just means people hold nothing back when they randori with you.
Actually if were saying o soto gari we are speaking JAPANESE !!!!! Just thought I would point that out. His english does need some serious work too :-P

Power throws in Judo? Sort of goes against the principles of judo doesn't it?
EmpiricalTruth 3 years ago 26
@EmpiricalTruth
This is not a power throw, this is the first throw which you learn in white belt.

How can you be a brown belt already?
bilskur 2 years ago
No joke, it takes 10 years at my school to become a first degree black. 2 years and a brown belt? Must be a "out to get your money" school.
greenbrad182 2 years ago 2
at my dojo they say you can get brown belt after 2 years but no one does, it takes like 6-7 years to get bron belt
and like 10 for black, i'm only yellow :(
