To all who might want to know what a NONpoisonous snakebite from a snake this size feels like, its about the same as getting poked by briars. A snake half this size or smaller feels mostly like rough sandpaper on your skin. Kinda like a cat's tongue.

I love your king snake.None here in maryland *tear* But I did get a 3 foot black snake.I was called to catching or he would be killed by my friend..so yeah hes been with me for 2 months now.Never trys to bite.Don't listen to these assholes who thinks its wrong to keep wild caught snakes. I think its better then having the get killed by people.As long as they eat. I would say its fine to keep them.. Feed food and a safe place with nothing to worry about...if not then they get let go...

If it makes you feel better, tell yourself this snake was crushed by a car while crossing a warm road on a cool summer night and eaten by crows the next day instead of being captured, cared for, and bred to produce amazing snakes for several generations. Every snake that has ever been purchased as captive bred is a descendant from once wild snakes. If this one and the female he caught breed and provide captive bred offspring for people to buy instead of catching other wild snakes, then is he not doing a good thing? Would it be better if this snake were eaten by a hawk later in the day? I se nothing wrong with taking a few specimens from the wild and breeding them. I've got one of the first captive born Albino Eastern Kings from the original Tenessee wild caught albino... for those who don't know, that would be an F1.. he's a hair over 5 feet and I have a 3 foot normal phase female. Albino easterns still aren't very common yet but they are working their way into the open market. I've been keeping reptiles for 31 years now and the Eastern king has always been one of my favorites.

Thats awesome! I'm familiar with that story. There's a buddy who's local to me who has a legitimate real deal albino Okeetee cornsnake. Just like your eastern, the amel came from a genuine mutation in the gene, not from cross breeding something else into it. Got a video of yours?

I just purchased an Eastern king from my dealer. It does that crazy rattle thing with its tail! I think he's just grumpy as he's going to shed soon. Very stout snake with very pale bands. Somebody told me that the more black the snake the more likely it is to come from mountainous terrain whereas a more banded one is likely to be closer to the coast. Mine reminds me of the Australian Tiger snake!

When I said that, I meant my house. I actually hate my house, I think it's cursed, but for what it's worth I'm in south east Virginia. To look for kingsnakes, pick a cool/warm (not hot) day, and cloudy. Go flip old trash out in fields. I find more snakes around human trash and old barns than in natural areas. Good luck!

I can definitely vouch for that. I released a hognose snake today and was pulling on some black plastic laying out and heard a tail shake. Sure enough there was a speckled king a hair under 4 foot in there. It was overcast out and in the 70s Took some great photos and put it back. Still don't get tired of finding them.

The real shock was that standing at the top of those 4 steps there is my wife, wearing nothing but a towel around her head LOL. I saw the snake and screamed GRAB THE CAMERA!!! not knowing she had just gotten out of the shower. Despite that, she came running with the camera in hand and stood in the doorway nekkid while I filmed this. She was in as much awe as I was. I feel a bit daft for not noticing a naked woman standing there and focusing on the snake instead HEH
