@tomuchbabble You're obviously not very knowledgeable about how money works. Anyone who has a currency in their hand will eventually spend it. It doesn't matter if Russia uses the United States currency to buy oil or wheat, eventually they will spend the currency. Somebody must sell something to the USA to acquire U.S. currency now once its acquired who cares what they do with it, the USA has the product which they spent the currency on.

With both China and Russia converting their bi-lateral trades into non-US dollar deals, the greenback is now under threat of losing out its status as the world reserve currency. And the impact of such a transition will essentially tip the balance of global power.

@MegaChallengeYou There is another downside, a potential threat now lurking in the shadows. The value of the US dollar is determined in large part by the fact that oil is sold in US dollars. If that trade shifts to a different currency, countries around the world won’t need all their US money. The resulting sell-off of US dollars would weaken the currency dramatically.

@tomuchbabble Its the productivity behind the currency which makes a currency valuable, and only when the currency is no longer backed by production it will lose its value. There is not enough gold in the world to replace currency that is why the gold standard is no longer used to back currency.

@tomuchbabble It has more to do with stopping Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. I'm not saying religion has nothing to do with it, I believe it does play a role especially when you see Ahmadinejad rallying crowds into chanting "Death to Israel."
