  • I know this is like a year late, but the novel idea sounds really very compelling.

  • 50,000 words......holy hell. I've been writing a book over the past (almost) two years and I only have 25,600 words. I could never set my perfectionism aside long enough to reach 50,000 words by the deadline. I consider you very brave for just attempting the feat. :)

  • @TheCynicalEye It is worth trying just one November :) There is an unexpected and wonderful freedom that comes with having to write about 1600 words a day and leave perfectionism aside. I am similar to you in that I otherwise write stories quite slowly as I wish not to write something of lesser quality and have to go rewrite it later. NaNoWriMo gave me a taste of what it was like to see a long story right through to the end - and quickly! :)

  • I never thought I'd see anyone who also did nanowrimo, and had the gall to vlog about it... awesomeness. I participated this year too, and won, but i haven't even looked at it since i typed the 50,000th word.

I've fallen in love with your channel.

  • @meaganfaller Thank you Meagan! :) I confess I haven't begun any editing on my NaNo from 2009 either, hehe! I still intend to start any day now though ;) Maybe if we're both brave enough to do NaNo again in 2010 we can help motivate each other to win again!

  • Hello Jennifer. I've been without net for quite some time so I wasn't able to keep up with your vlog. I was very glad to return and discover you've been working on a novel. It sounds interesting. I do like the idea that you can set it in such a confined space as two cells. Making a concept like that work, though, requires a large dose of talent, but from what Ive seen here, you are just the right person for that ... So I hope to get the chance of reading it some time soon... ;-)

Oh, and good work with the cover and the title as well, they are both quite intreaguing...

    Best wishes, keep well...

  • Thank you very much! I had a lot of fun playing around with different covers and titles and was quite happy with how it turned out :)

  • My God!! Are you eyes really that blue!!??

I love Goethe und Schiller.Could you read some more Goethe or maybe even some Nietzsche?

Good luck on your novel. Goethe wrote the greatest novel ever..Wilhelm Meister.

  • Yes I hope to read some more Goethe at some stage :) Thank you!

  • I really want to read this novel now!

    it sounds really good :D

  • thank you! :)

  • I'm so incredibly impressed that you finished this project! If there was anyone I know that could pull it off though, it would be you.

  • Thank you michael! It got close there at the end, hehe :)

  • i was so excited to see that you had completed nano! i cant wait to hopefully read the amazingness of your novel. glad to see you back on youtube too lol

  • thanks mike!!

  • Congrats Jen! When you feel like it can be seen, send it to me. :D I would love to read it.

  • Thanks Ash! It will take a while to edit I think but I'll get on to it, hehe!

  • I'd been wondering what happened to you... good to see that you had a productive month. If the novel is as good as the cover - I think we have a winner!

  • thank you jens!

  • Sounds like a cool way to spend a month. Good luck.

  • I certainly couldn't do it every month but for one month of the year it was lots of fun, hehe!

  • Way to go! I wish you the very best on your writing project.

  • thank you very much! :)

  • This sounds fascinating Jen. I love the premise for your novel. I look forward to reading it when it is released. I know it will be great.

    Robby:)

  • thank you very much Robby!

  • Yes! I've been following you, Jen.. Congratulations on completing the novel! I'm proud of you =) Can't wait to see some more videos from you!

  • more videos are definitely on their way! :) Thanks Jordan!!

  • Hi Jen,

intrigueing adn excuse the pun captivating idea, two incarcerated people who do not meet physically, reveal themselve to each other through their secret pact to tell each other their personal secrets; how vulnerable. Were you intending it as a relationship metaphor ; what is said unsaid and the pacts people make ? Interesting premise, two criminals;all the negative stereotypes making a highly moral pact !! Thanks for taking some time to help with my poetry submission too !.

  • You're most welcome Matt! And thank you for this wonderful comment :) You are very insightful! The story premise did begin as somewhat of a metaphor for relationships.

  • Hi Jennifer,

It will be great to read, hang in there with teh editing adn try to have fun with that. don't know if you are more analytical or intuitive at this stage but I would just encourage you to listen to your intuitive voice around condensing the story. I found the image of the two people seperated by the actual wall and space of their cells yet choosing to share their most intimate secrets very touching and human. Happy Sunday here, Monday there ! !

  • your eyes are so blue!

  • Excellent! This is right up your ally. :) I'm no literary egghead and can't offer a refined critique, but I would be pleased to be among those who read your drafts and give general feedback. :) If youre ever looking for people to do that, I volunteer!

  • Thank you Jen! I may take you up on that if I get it into a solid draft state hehe!

  • Wow - congrats. I tried this a couple of years ago and failed. I've been trying to write stuff for years. Have you checked out Twisted Tongue magazine. I have a video about it on my channel. You can send stories and poems to them. Just tell the editor I sent you. She's a mate of mine. PS where can I read your story?

  • Thanks blistonjay! I love the idea of the magazine as stories with a twist are often my favourites :) I'll keep them in mind for short stories I do in the future. Currently Leopold isn't available for reading yet as it still needs to be edited ;)

  • A fascinating concept for a novel!

  • thank you!

  • Yaaaay Congratulations Raven!! Hopefully we can seeya on blog more heheheee can't wait to see more of Leopold too! Absolutely love the cover! and zomgrrrrrrd your eyes are like ocean blue! its awesome!

  • hehe thank you tobez!!

  • I'll make sure to make some time to check it out. I can't right now alas. :(

    Look forward to it.

  • Great cover!!

  • thank you eddy!! :)

  • I love the premise for your story though, sounds like my kind of read and I hope you finish it. I've always had this thing in my head that you just need to finish the first one. Then if you have it in you to finish one, you can finish two and so on . #1 is the biggest mountain.

    Good luck with everything.

  • Yes I think you might be right about that, hehe! There is some kind of mental hurdle about really finishing the first one. I intend to leap over it though if I can! :)

  • I can definitely identify on the frustration of editing your own work. It's pretty much exactly how I described my own writing process to Ash. I have no problem getting into a flow and knocking out thousands of words, but it's the thought of having to take a second look at those words and perfecting them that scares me. One small change in chapter 2 can mean a complete rewrite of chapters 12 and 13, etc and that's when the whole thing stops being fun and starts being work.

  • exactly the same color... amazing.

  • cool

  • I got slightly over 20,000 words. It would have been more, but that dang Beatles game was addictive ^^;

    Interesting plot for your tale.

  • hehe, I had to fight many of my addictions during the month to give my time to the story. I'm certainly grateful of my time for YouTube and other hobbies again, hehe!

  • You did introduce me to NaNoWriMo, but I wouldn't ever hate you for putting me through this ordeal. It was a great experience, even though I threw in the towel after 10 000 words. I still work on my novel and hope to finish it later.

I am looking forward to reading yours once you've had a chance to polish it, though.

    Thanks again, Jen.

P.S. My region managed to put together 27,8 million words, though. Goooo Germany&Austria!

  • I am glad to hear you are continuing with your novel as I think it has a fascinating premise behind it and would love to read it one day! :)

  • Quick question:

Are these "nano-books" available to purchase in hardcopy? -B.

  • hehe, a small few of them end up published as books but mainly they are written for the personal joy of the authors :)

  • Jen, your novel sounds dark and very interesting. And what a great cover! I look forward to reading it.

  • thank you!

  • Congratulations on getting through the month and completing your novel Jen.

  • thanks Pete!

  • Gosh Jen, I just woke this morning, checked my email and YT Friend's Sites, and listened to this video of nanowrimo. I have to rush off and help Matt, but I will come back and explore this more deeply. I hope you will pardon this old "YT Uncle" of yours for getting mushy, but I had a tear in my eye when I heard that powerful, emotional music play at the end, and then I saw the cover of your first book! I knew it! You would become a great Artist one day! This is just the beginning! : .)..

  • Aw Brian thank you very much :) I wasn't sure if I should show the cover but in the end I did and because of your comment I am very glad I did! ^^

  • neat-O! :P All the best! ;)

  • thanks David!!

  • Hi Dear,

Nice to see u again finally! Sounds like an interesting projekt you told about!

  • Thank you Werner! :)

  • Hey Darling, you make wonderful videos!!! Thanks

  • Thank you very much Ricardo! I adore your singing performances and am so glad you posted a few here on YouTube for us to see :)

  • Writing a novel, but nanowrimo is something i won't try. basically due to the fact that it would pressure me. if i get pressured, i end up too annoyed to write.

  • Ah yes I can understand that! The pressure was quite intense during the final week of November but for me it was the pressure I needed, hehe ;)

  • nice, never heard of this NaNoWriMo before, I totally would have participated.

  • hope to see you there next year! :)

  • sounds realy good nice cover too hope you are well :)

  • thanks matt!

  • I'm so impressed that you had the discipline to write 50000 WORDS!!! You are AWESOME :D

  • It is certainly the most I've ever written on one thing - my prior record was around half of that - 25,000 ;)

  • Your video always marvelous!

    Your story sounds really amazing.

    Good luck.

    Tatsu

  • Thank you Tatsu! Hope you're doing well! =)

  • cool cover

  • Thanks Anton! I worked on it during one of my procrastination sessions to avoid writing for a little while, hehe

  • Congratulations on completing your novel! I thought about participating in the event too but I had dissertation and lots of reading to do for it... maybe your video next year will inspire me to do it!

How did you create your book cover? It's very beautiful and intriguing... that paired with your verbal synopsis definitely makes me want to read the whole story!

  • Thank you! =) I was excited to finally have a November free enough to allow me to actually do NaNo, hehe! The cover began with a photo of a younger girl which I morphed with another pic to age her. Then I played around with the colours and shading and added the font etc. It was really fun to do!

  • cant wait for some more vids hun:)

  • thanks! ;)

  • I know alot about Procrastinating I have tried and gave up on my stories and now actually have written a couple of chapters slowly but when I look at it I just judge myself too harshly. Poetry is something that comes to me easier and I am not so judgemental about myself. But I keep writing. So it's very hard to write a novel. Keep it up!

  • Thank you! And you keep up your writing too! =)

  • i will be looking for the novel at the local bookstore within the year..

    so,

    stay on track.

    good luck.

  • hehe, thank you :)

  • I failed NaNoWriMo miserably. I'll be better prepared next year. Your story sounds amazing. I was so intrigued as you described the plot - it's so original. I really would like to read your novel.

  • Thank you! I wasn't sure I'd made the deadline either and had to write the last 7700 words in the final day, hehe. I hope to do it again next year though =)

  • That's a really interesting premise for a book. I've never gotten into the idea of nanowrimo but I guess anything that gets people to start working their creative juices isn't all too bad.

  • Thanks Donnie! And yes, NaNo is a strange way of starting a novel but a start is as good as any I guess...we shall see anyway, hehe!

  • You finished your novel and made a cover for it, very cool, congrats!

  • thank you!

  • 1st Comment and rawr!

  • hehe!
