What they never tell the "Drop" is he is perfectly free to walk out those gates at any time once he has announced his intent to quit. If he does not do so, and sign the appropriate papers; he's AWOL. They are obliged to provide you with whatever pay you may be due, and the fare home if needed; but this too is rarely volunteered. That was how it was in 79' at least. All of our drops had to float along with us until final stage as a form of humiliation if they wanted to get cashiered out.

When I walked into the mess deck te memories came back. it was like yesterday. I can still do the drill. I had this one soldier under me in Iraq. The guy was a total shitbag. He was dirty, he didn't clean his CHU, or shower unless I physically watched him. So I made him my roommate and crammed him into this little corner of the CHU and just fucked with him all the time 'till he went crazy and threatend to kill me and everyone in the company. We shipped his worthless ass off to germany and he got booted out W/O benifits. That is my proudest achivement as a NCO.

I Had A Social Studies Teacher In 7th Grade, That A Marine. Every Time Some "Turd" Fucks Up, For Example Refusing To Do Work Or Interrupting The Teacher When He's Speaking, The Whole Class Would Get Punished.

@d93662 Yea, they could have done that but if it was tollerated today like it was back in 1980 (when I was in boot), half the platoon would have been dropped, on duty firewatch, squad leader, and guide courts martialed then sent packing, and greenbelt DI on duty tossed from the Corp after Court Martial. The side that was dropped was the side of the squad bay of the incident. Most set back to next following series, the recruit's squad was sent back to day one. Went from 90 to 42 in one swoop.
He needed to be taught a lesson for signing up when he shouldn't have in the first place. They let him out eventually. People like him can teach the other recruits a lesson too that whoever doesn't pull their weight they must carry.

I had this one soldier under me in Iraq. The guy was a total shitbag. He was dirty, he didn't clean his CHU, or shower unless I physically watched him. So I made him my roommate and crammed him into this little corner of the CHU and just fucked with him all the time 'till he went crazy and threatend to kill me and everyone in the company. We shipped his worthless ass off to germany and he got booted out W/O benifits. That is my proudest achivement as a NCO.

But you're right about one thing, it's to hard to get rid of dead weight. I went from E1 to E5 in 3 years, and would have had my first opportunity to make E6 the month I got out. I have little doubt I would not have made it. Regardless, getting out was the best option, as guys like you still outranked me just by sticking around. Not that they were good leaders, they just never left.

By that point the money the money had already been spent to recruit him, enlist him, immunize him, train him, etc. The DI's wanted to see if he would snap out of it eventually.
At my army basic, during the initial drill sergeant introductions, they had our company of about 200 shut our eyes and the 1SG had anyone raise their hand who wanted out. The 4 people who raised their hands stood there sucking their thumbs 20 min later while the rest of us got to play in a mud pit for half an hour.

@d93662 Yea, they could have done that but if it was tollerated today like it was back in 1980 (when I was in boot), half the platoon would have been dropped, on duty firewatch, squad leader, and guide courts martialed then sent packing, and greenbelt DI on duty tossed from the Corp after Court Martial. The side that was dropped was the side of the squad bay of the incident. Most set back to next following series, the recruit's squad was sent back to day one. Went from 90 to 42 in one swoop.
