runrig just aint the same withe buce in the band,,i think rory has the best voice of all. seen you guys 5 times live and thats when donnie was in the band,,,so keep up the good work thewre rory and the rest of you lads! cheers
Bruce has a very good voice, easy on the ear, but his style is more American 'country' imo. Something about the phrasing, intonation, not sure how to describe it. I don't want to provoke anyone - I'm really glad the band is continuing to thrive - but Donnie's voice is more Celtic in tone, shape, whathaveyou, and suits the Runrig music better. I'd love to hear DM's version of this song!
After listening this switch to capital fm and listen for as long as bearable, after that listen to this again and compare. Wish more brilliant music like this was in the mainstream consciousness rather thant the stuff you see on tv and radio.
This is exquisite, the definitive male version, equal to Connie Dover's female version!! I am delighted Runrig has honored this great lament with a SUBLIME INTERPRETATION & PERFORMANCE!!! I would expect no less. Love the pedal steel! @Softrockman, If this sounds like Frankie Valee or Berry Gibbs, what's your idea of soft rock, Metallica?? FYI, not all Americans sing like sock puppets!!! I now fully understand why Billy Joe & other great artists won't do their sweet & tender stuff in concert!!!
first time ive heard runrig sing this, very moving song, reminds me of when isla st clair sang when the pipers play, totally love this though, well done!!
Brucey is a fantastic singer and Runrig were lucky to have someone as good as this to replace DM but I just wish he would get rid of that American falsetto style of vocals.
@Softrockman You obviously don't know what falsetto is!! Bruce doesn't use falsetto in this song and, off the top of my head, I can't recall him using it in any Runrig song.
Thinking to know every song of runrig I was very touched by this one, which is rather unknown... Beautiful, deep words and emotions! Thanks to bruce for your emotional way of singing, your wonderful voice and thanks to runrig for this very precious gift... your music which will always keep me alive inside....
Beautiful song and just love Bruce's vocals...have all his solo albums too - fab!
