Many of the young women have extreme high miscarriage rate, to even have children at all I had to be placed on fertility medications. People who were exposed to that contaminated water die of various cancers. Even the animals have been giving birth to deformed offspring. It's sad and pathetic the almighty $ means more to alot of these people than their fellow man or the animals they feed on.
(1) Thanks for showing this video. people fail to realize what happens when air and water get contaminated. Myself and several others my age are living proof of what happens with water contamination. in the 1970's our mothers & fathers drank water contaminated with Uranium. Those of us children who made it term were born with disabilities ranging from mild to severe. I was born missing my fingers.
If you would like to know more about the bakken. Please google "thebakkenformation" with the quotes. We have knowledgeable people regarding fracking and other general oil field information. We have a free jobs site, and a rigs page that updates every day with the number of rigs each company has operating.
This is the most ridiculous thing ive ever seen. Go back to your hippie village and hug a tree there. Ive lived in north dakota my whole life. Animals die all the time on farms.. especially in winter. North Dakota is a tough state, so go back to your home state and marry a tree or frog or something. I agree with responsible drilling practices as it will affect people here but blaming a cat sneezing (in winter) or a broke down old cow dying on the farm on the oil patch is RETARDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The white stuff on your concrete is effervescence(sp). Caused from the lime in the cement. Due to your extreme wet winter and the forever curing concrete your going to get the white stuff...I would say it has nothing to do with fracing. I am not a vet so I do not know what to tell you about your animals other than you may want to spend more than $300 on sick farm animals to keep them healthy and add some new filters to your water supply. A little maintenance go es along ways.
This is like a Michael Moore film. None of those wells within miles of the house must of been theres. Do you think winter has any affect on the outdoor animals respiratory problems? We have a cat called snort whose lived outside for 14 winters and his ears look like a pit bull due to the frost, they are almost gone, i'm sure winter has affected his nose and lungs as well. And the cows, how about flies or lice? Well water does not have ANY sediment NO,NO must be drilling, fracing.
@bjanderson2222 Bakken Watch does not comment on test results or any actions taken or not taken by people victimized by fracking. Bakken Watch serves only as a witness to the devastation.
@BakkenWatch A witness to the devastation (as you state) where there is no proof shown on here. The only thing that is shown are things that could have numerous causes! I am all for responsible and safe drilling, but as I said before do not state this as fact unless you can prove it! And as far today is concerned I see no proof.
White stuff in the basement is moisture coming in... That combined with the dirty well water leads me to think about flooding. Didn't North Dakota experience severe flooding in recent years?
@mtnbiker727 There is flooding in North Dakota but not in this part of the state, but a usual reason for the white which I have first hand seen in this area is attributed to Alkaline in the soil coming through concrete! Not saying this is it but is a possible reason.
Are you serious? Apparently you guys haven't ever been on a farm. Cats and cows get diseases, and sometimes they die from them.
We had 8 cats die 2 years ago from a respiratory disease, and we didn't have any gas wells within 20 miles of here. Every year barn cats get sick, and sometimes we give them shots of penicillin, and they perk up and move on with their lives.
That's what happens when you have a population of animals confined to one local area. Disease spreads, and the weak ones die
In my own opinion, you provided documental proof that you are neglecting your animals by allowing them to live in suffering conditions and you should be held liable for that! Your cats appear to have Feline Aids or Distemper. Did you just pick the cattle up at the sale barn? They are probably 'gummers' and ready for slaughter, but you thought that saving them from being shot in the head with a lead bolt was a better idea. I am from NW ND. I do not receive a royalty check. I am not sick.
Primates should not try to live in snowy, cold areas. It does not make biological sense. Oil and money addicts are corrupt and diseased. CarFree . com -- FreePublicTransit . org -- BicycleCity . com -- PostCarbon . org -- Puppets of the oil/automobile/asphalt/military/congressional cartels, free yourselves. Oil addiction is suicide, like alcoholism. Oil addicts are like winos: deny, deny, deny. Corporate media is a brainwashing scam. Polluters are crooks. Prosecute and imprison.
no proof that any of this is caused by fracking. I don't mean to say that it couldnt be from fracking, BUT before you go and put things on youtube maybe just maybe you should get statistics on here and legitiment proof that this is what is really going on with this particular case.
to the BW. If this farmer has brought documentation like you say... then why does it no where in this video say what is wrong with her water? Why is her water not tested? Another question, if her cats are suffering, why does she not have them put down? Most responsible people whom have animals would not let them live like that?! Our vet clinic here is not that great either. I'm also betting that they didnt pay for blood work to be done on a "barn cat" blood work is expensive and this video shows
Don't suppose you bothered to ask if the cats had shots for distemper which is probably what they have...(killed about 25 of the 30 cats on a neighbors farm as a kid) It is a hard winter it isn't odd that the animals are sick. If you happen to have a cat yourself you may have just brought something nasty back with you.
Bakken Watch is a grassroots ND organization. People contact us about their issues regarding fracking or problems with oil/gas. It is up to each individual to address--or not-- his/her own oil/gas issues with the public. BW never reveals its sources and does not attempt to prove or disprove any claims. We do, however, ask our sources to "back up" their claims with documentation, whether it is vet records or other records. This farmer has done so, and the choice was made to air the video.
Do you have cattle? Have you ever had ringworn on your livestock or yourself? I have. I don't know where she is in Williams county but I am not worried about my well water because the oil wells are cased to prevent ground water contamination. I'm not going to take anyone's WORD on anything. If they are honest about all these tests that have been done and the age of the cow then they should show the PROOF.
Try zinc oxide on those sores. You will find this in the baby isle for diaper rash creams. Select the cream with the highest zinc content.
Zinc is critical to the entire body’s immune and repair processes.
If you desire to take a zinc orally it should be in a balanced mineral supplement because zinc taken alone depletes copper & iron. Iron taken alone depletes zinc so go with a balanced mineral supplement. The zinc cream skin cure takes months but it should help.
That does not look like ringworm to me. The leg appears to have bruising & could have been from something falling on it but the redness & sores on the rest of her body are not from injury and do not look like typical ringworm. Is your well water aquifer tied directly into the same well water as hers? You might go down to the local geologist & find out. She says That "old Cow" is only a calf. You live in the region, you should explore rather than condemn, you might be next.
This is a young cow. Tests have been performed by veterinarians for all known bovine and feline diseases and conditions, including ringworm. No causes have been found. This is not the only farm with these problems. In the future, more cases will come forward. Don't get left behind by closing your eyes to this problem.
@BakkenWatch Why would you test a cow for a feline disease? Did you know there is not a magic machine you can stick a sample into and get an answer? You have to test specifically for something. What tests did you order?
@BakkenWatch Tests for every known bovine and feline condition? Really? I highly doubt that they paid for PCR, ELISA, IFA and other diagnostic tests required. I would like to know what kind of ration they are receiving as this could play a major role. I live in southeast ND and have seen herds with thin cows and barn cats with respiratory signs. It's not unusual and to present it as otherwise and attribute it to drilling is grossly irresponsible.
@JakeG2486 One other thing: just watching the video leaves me to suspect the quality of management of this herd. I notice that tags are missing from these cows and while one seems to have one that tore out, good management practices would include working them spring and fall and putting in a new tag. Additionally, I didn't see a single Bang's vaccination tag which also leads me to question the vaccination history.
@JakeG2486 The bump on the cow’s head does look rather suspicious. My dad has a few hundred cows and over the years(I’m in my 30’s) I’ve never really noticed anything like that bump. You should probably have a vet biopsy it, I would suspect that it is likely premalignant, possibly some sort of bovine melanoma. We can only hope that it is benign and not precancerous or cancerous. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. In the meantime I would take them off of well water and put them on fresh snow melt.
Can we support this with tests & data? So glad this perspective will be shared at the hearings. If this were my farm (and my animals, and the skin on my arms) I'd be freaking out, whatever the cause! How can we rally the cry for whatever research it takes to undeniably link the contamination on this farm to its actual cause (fracking or not)? I'd like to see the sediment from that kitchen water sample analyzed...also, the leaching residue on the basement walls and floor. What do you all think?
1. We are not drilling for gas in this state. It does make some difference because oil is less mobile
2. We have a strong regulatory agency in this state. 3 The Geology in North Dakota makes leaks exceedingly unlikely. Wells are completed in stages the first 2000 feet of casing is set before the rest of the hole is completed. (oil and gas is 8,000+ feet down in the area in question)
4. Your animal mentality doesn't jive with this part of the world so we really don't care.
@benjaminlately Lynn Helms has been quoted in the Bismarck Tribune as saying that we have "hundreds of unreported spills and thousands of unmonitored sites." That is not a "strong regulatory agency." We have ONE full time position for monitoring.

1. You are misquoting the paper. Helms did not say this. The author of the article did.
2. There are 13 field positions for monitoring, and have one boss for those people
3. Helms supports fracking publicly.
4. The definition of a spill is very small so technically there are thousands of of unreported spills, but they pose no danger to the environment. (Walmart parking lot has hundreds of unreported oil spills)
1. There are 12 (trying to hire one more) field engineers who monitor on site drilling activities which includes disposal of waste water.
2. Post the exact article you claim you are quoting. (I read the article)
3. He supports fracking because he understands it.
4. If I am in no position to make that claim then you are also in no position to claim that the unreported spills are a danger to the environment. In order to make a claim you need evidence.

Gas drilling is bad, and I'm against it.
BUT: strict scientific proof is impossible. Lawyers understand this well. The best we can hope for is CORRELATES.
I believe gas drilling is a likely CORRELATE to why these animals sick, but so is CONFINEMENT BY HUMANS.
We claim to care, then kill them for food.
Gary Francione calls this "moral schizophrenia".
IF WE TRULY CARE ABOUT ANIMALS, we will set them all free, including pets, and stop killing them for food and other utilitarian purposes.
