@alexbrendon7 Thanks Alexbrendon7! I thought it was pretty somber but glad I chose to do it and I agree that's it full of emotions. Thanks for your comment!
@Adamfulgence I am going to guess that Tom Waits was familiar with the Chinese Tang Dynasty (?) poem, "Daiyu's Burial of the flowers" from the play "The Dream of the Red Chamber".
This poem has been set to song in various forms of Chinese opera as well as modern interpretations. YT 黛玉葬花 if you are interested.
@danL1011 What a great comment!!! I did follow the link you sent and must say that the similarities are strikingly real. Thank you so much for taking the time to write what you did.
@Adamfulgence And thank you for bringing this song to my attention. Tom Waits is probably in the top ten of contemporary American songwriters -- sort of an American Jacques Brel with a penchant for experimenting with sound as well as words.

Un jour la lune argentée et moi iront au pays des rêves
Je fermerai mes yeux et je me réveillerai là, au pays des rêves
Et dites-moi qui déposera des fleurs sur la stèle d’une fleur
Qui récitera une prière

Someday the silver moon and I
Will go to Dreamland
I will close my eyes
And wake up there in Dreamland
But tell me who will put flowers
On a flower's grave
Who will say a prayer
Will I meet a China rose there in Dreamland
Or does love lie bleeding in Dreamland
Are these days gone forever and always
