  • unfortunately I ain't got one brain at each of my four limbs

  • thx for the "cool excercise" virgil! :)

unfortunately your independance skills have to be incredibly good to do it or else you just get frustrated and fucking hang yourself!!!!!

  • dividing your brains into four!! most amazing exercise ever!!! ;) thank you soo much!! it helps me a lot!!!

  • i practice this..

    and fail..

  • This is a really fun exercise to work on, im still dont have the accents down but its getting there, it took me about 40 hrs to play it very slow and now i am working my way up on it. I often notice if i play this for a while, my normal beats and use of hihat becomes more original and my regular linear playing becomes more complex and challenging. Thank you for this exercise Virgil!!!

  • no pierdan el tiempo esos ejercicios no sirven para tocar musica...son solo para mostrar tecnica y eso no es nada en el mundo de la musica. mas vale estudien a steve jordan o a elvin jones....

  • it's like walking and chewing gum , really a great exercise for your brain though

  • Never knew virgil had a lisp

  • extraterrestre

  • I get crazy with this ^^

  • I do This groove....

    my friend is Virgil

  • I have smoke coming out of my ears now...

  • fuck my life.

  • thish ish sho shick!!

  • man., i wish my brain was trained like that.

  • Haha good thing that isnt crazy difficult or anything!

  • And what I mean by 'crap' is, 'Crap, I can't do that!'

  • Crap....

  • the greatest samurai that ever lived Musashi said that you cannot just practice by playing with ideas ... you gotta concretely do it. Virgil proves him right!

  • Virgil is amazing as usual...my head hurts

  • He's my vision of drumming nirvana. I'll always look up to him as like the ultimate goal in terms of drumming ability.

  • Hey... uhh... i don't know how to tell you this..? You've got a bit of brown stuff around your nose, by the way...

  • Hi! just wanted to tell you that my teacher in Adelaide(Australia) was good friends with Virgil.I used a few key excercises from him in my drumming practice and it worked wonders.Though Im not as good as Virgil or my teacher I am at a level far above the average drummer.Pick some of his excercises that you like and practice them regularly. Also push yourself in the process and you will reap the benefits. CHEERS!

  • virgil makes quite complex things look like childs play. i had a few master classes with him in the 90s and he is one of the most dedicated, focused, people i have known. its tru to say he is fanatical, but a master has to be.

  • hi dude! thanx for ur comment!! ;) pretty amazing vids, thax for sharing! cheers

    Sebastian

  • no matter how much i try, i cant get this to sound as great as he plays it with his occasional accents on the snare, and so on. This guy knows his stuff,

  • WOW!!!

    CRAZY!!!

  • well okay then....no one on youtube can play this the way he does....and yeah he does it correctly all the way through...and it is in time...and a double paradiddle is NOT twice as long as a paradiddle...

  • Notice that from 55 seconds to 1:04 he isn't really playing the groove. Seems a bit sus...

  • yea

    the video speeds up

    worry not tho

    virgil can actually play this

  • man, this kind of polyrythms are just awesome.virgil and mangini are the best I know of.i really am keen on this stuff.

  • Check out Marco Minnemann too!

  • sure,I'll.this is an important matter to investigate.thanks for sharing dude! ^^

  • Easy! Well I dont mean playing it is so easy I worked hard to get it but its easy now anyone who cant do it this should help!

  • I just learned this groove, now that I can play it Ive thought about it more and the math is so easy behind it, if a double parriddle is twice as long as a single paradiddle then that means every double parrididlle will come after every single parradille hence thats why his left diddle is coming down after his right diddle, cus his right diddle is the single and the left is the double, its just half as long and fits half way in between the double!

  • A double paradiddle isn't twice as "long" as a single paradiddle though...

  • not in time but it has 2 extra notes on each alternation! Hence twice as long!

  • I misunderstood. Sorry.

  • I have got this groove down, I also switched the groove around and it sounds just as good. Another very cool combination is a ratamacue with your right side and a double ratamacue with your left side. I love rudimenyts because it lets combine so many things together to be musical. One other amazingly difficult thing is putting each of your limbs into seperate groupings and playing them at the same time.

  • I am actually fasinated by drumming that isnt always musical, such as donaties langs and buddy riches, its interesting to disect the complexity involved in more non musical rythems, although they dont groove there still way more impressive than any groovy beat, making a grooovy beat is not that tuff, but playing polyrythems and other weird stuff on drums can be very complex!

  • God you all took that personally didn't you! I take the point about rudiments to some extent - but when I practice rudiments I still emphasise the feel whereas he's literally done that by numbers, I just don't see anything special about that. But Niema, it's called an opinion - so it's 100% valid to comment as are you to disagree.

  • holy crap...thats amazingly difficult...dude kaufman every type of music and be broken down mathematically...everything...

  • Its freakin blasphemy if you say that thing doesnt groove. SICK!!

  • sorry but this is shit. he's thinking parradiddles, numbers. you even see him counting it out. Drums, and music should never be as mathmatical as this.

  • Are you on crack?

  • You can count all music this is just harder to count. Even if this was too mathmatical why is that such a bad thing?

  • why do you think that dandykaufman? i think everyone here happes to like it.

  • Who are you to say what music is or isnt supposed to be? Anyways, he said this was just an excercise. When you practice rudiments, you aren't creating music are you? THis is just the same idea, it's an excercise to help with coordination and control. Don't get all aour grapes because you can't do it. I can't do it...but think of where drumming would be without drummer's such as him. Just appreciate it dude and take it for what its worth.

  • You're insane.

  • drums and music are math, anybody who tries to separate it, is taking away a whole world of possibilities this is why virgil is so good compared to others, so go play a 4/4 standard rock beat and have fun

  • This is a video I would show to a guitar player showing why the drums are probably the most complex instrument in the world to play

  • the concentration in his expressions around 1.30!!!!

as a guitarist, i'm feeling a bit pathetic at the mo, triplets are as tough as it gets for us :p

  • he had us do this when i came to one of his clinics, and i know 1st hand just how hard it is coz i still am not able to do it properly. just shows you how much focus and concentration he has.

  • my brain would start to smoke if i ever tried that.

  • judging from his grin before he plays it, he knows its extremely difficult.

  • hahaha, damn, he sure gives us drummer something to aim for eh?

  • I QUIT

  • this guy is an absolute freak. i can do a double paradiddle with my feet and paradiddle with hands but this is buy far the most insane things i have ever heard or seen!!?

  • is he serious

  • -_- wow so sick

  • Good cordination, nice beat.

  • holy crap ! i dont even dare to try playing that!! that was insane!! he is by far my favorite drumer

  • I wanna fuckin' JAM with him!

  • Man, I give up.

  • it's easy,very easy.try to play LPLLPLPP !Haha!That's a trick!That's a trick! Damn Virgil...

  • Fuck you Virgil... Fuck you for being the only person on the face of the earth capable of making me want to burn my kit and never play drums again hehehe

  • That's just ridiculous.. DAMN YOU VIRGIL!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the great video. Virg says he's playing double paradiddles though which are different than paradiddle-diddles.

  • Oh my bad, when I posted this I didn't watch it through to double check. Check out my other videos!

  • @cjcdrums ya, double paradiddles are rlrlrrlrlrll paradiddle-diddles are rlrrllrlrrll
