No, the law places age limits on who can have sex (Age of Consent laws) to protect children who may not know the consequences. Most states put it at 16 y/o.

As for gays, the Supreme Court has struck down laws against gay sex in the Lawrence v Texas case. It's now completely legal as long as it's among consenting adults.

Two gays 19 y/o's are clearly more knowledgeable than two 15 y/o's.

I think that it was good that they talked about birth control and if it was encouraging sex because sadly enough too many people think that knowledge and protection DOES encourage young people to have sex. God Liberty is being such a bitch. It fascinates me how both kids react differently to the same situation. Liberty gets all bitchy and defensive when all Parker wants is to know he was good. I wonder if this is where the straight guy sex barrier comes from. Their first time is with a bitch, so they learn to cut off their emotions from sex. It sounds like a good hypothosis.

I don't think Liberty was being a bitch at all. Sex changes things, and I think the way she's feeling is very realistic. She's vulnerable, and insecure (like Janet said). It wasn't this magical first time for her. It doesn't feel like she "made love," it feels like she gave something up.

Meredith did an excellent job portraying this scene - Her body language, her facial expressions, and the way she said all her lines made me think she was actually dealing with all those emotions.

Okay, I'm getting sick and tired of "giving kids protection leads to sex." Because it does not. Making sex an evil, taboo, wrong thing is what leads to this problem. And really, what can you do. If the kids want to do it, they will find a way. As a teen I figured out all sorts of ways to explore my sexuality around or behind my family. All you can do is give them the right information, give them your advise and support, and hope for the best. The forbidden fruit effect is not the way to go.

It's just so strange that they've this actress cast in this part when she is so clearly better suited to Lily than Noelle Beck. Also, I assume they were auditioning around the same time as new Lily started around the same time as the character of Janet was introduced...so how could the casting agents miss this? I like Janet as a character, and I think she is portrayed well, but there is so much more of a resemblance between her and Martha Byrne than between Martha and Noelle!

Heh. Yeah, he's really tall and has a nice deep voice, even when he was only 14. Great actor too. He's one of the few young males who can cry when necessary.

Parker is a bit of a rebel though. He's sometimes too angry for no real reason. At least he;s rich! :) He tried to use his trust fun to pay for Jack & Janet's wedding.

The weird thing is that actor Mick Hazen (Parker) is really only around 15 y/o while the actress who plays Liberty is really over 21 y/o. My guess is that Mick has never dated in real life, so this kiss with Liberty was probably his first kiss ever.

Exactly. The writers ruined Lily, but a better actress would have given her some depth and complexity. This Lily is just capable of lust and outbursts, i.e. she went nuts at Faith's school party when Holden wouldn't dance. When Luke returned from NY after bring in danger, Lily gave only a 2 sec "hug." The brevity was Beck's decision, not the writers. Same for her interactions with Natalie and Faith.

I find it hilarious that this episode was sponsored by Vagisil, a kit to detect vaginal infections. What is ATWT trying to say? That teen sex leads to vaginal infections? Companies have experts review every show and episode that they sponsor so this was no coincidence. This reminds me of the US Army ad that aired on the episode where Win goes insane over Noah's kiss. That was certainly sending mixed messages!

In this episode, Parker's father is behaving irrationally. First, he takes every opportnity to punish Carly for her affair. I've never liked Carly (she should be in jail for various reasons), but Jack is being a jerk. First of all, Jack is wrong. Parker locked himself up because he just had sex -- not because he's mad about Carly's affair.

Secondly, his info about providing contraceptives is WRONG. Studies have repeatedly shown that sexual information and condom availability DOES NOT increase sexual activity. Jack's speech was VERY irresponsible because some viewers may believe it. I hope ATWT does a disclaimer.

I repeat: the actress who plays Janet would make a much better Lily than icy Noelle Beck who is unable to be motherly. Thankfully, Beck is probationary and has no contract so she can be easily replaced.
