nice tank who says you cant keep a tang in a small tank im just about to buy a regal tang for my 120lt and guess what people i dont care the tang is going to be very happy nice vid :D
How do you got 2 different kinds of clownfish together? my local aquarium store said you can't group 2 different kinds of clownfish without them fighting.
@reefthuz curious as to how you view the seachem vitro products; i am currently using polyplabs one calcium and REEFROIDS which are both excellent; however i like to change up products to see if one may be more beneficial than another. appreciate your opinion.
Love the tank. I have a jbj 28 hqi. just got the vortech mp10. my corals just exploded in less than a week. I'm very curious as to how you hooked up your chiller. i need one cause my temp goes up to 84-85. Do you have some sort of refugium? thanks
hey great tank.. i have a question about that gorgonian. is it a purple gorgonian and when u have dead branches do u just cut them off? also i see ur bottom piece of the gorgonian doesnt have polyos on it is that normal?
@MrGanstalicious it is a purple gorgonian and if you leave the dead branch on and often it will re-grow over the dead branch. Cutting a dead branch off does not help or hurt it.
@Copperdog230 2-3 years. I would recommend the Sustainable Aquatics tank raised Regal Blue Tangs which are 1.5 - 2 inches. Ask for them at your local store.
hi i see you use the aquarium pharmaceuticals tap water filter for when you do water changes in your tank. i would like to know how well the product worked for you, and if you would recommend it to others. i am wanting to set up my 110 gallon tank as a fish only set up. does the filter produce quite a bit of water and how long does it take and about how many gallons do you get before having to replace the filter pads? thanks in advance for the help and advice.
@JS5074 it is an deionizer and produces water suitable for fish only na dreef systems. It produces water about as fast as a man can pee and makes roughly 200 gallons per cartrige. I would recomend it a great alternative to buying an R/O unit.
@strikers11soccer ya he was in there 5-6 years and did great. He is now in a 150 gallon reef. There are now tank raised tangs on the market that are around an inch long. They do well in nanos.
The skimmer is silent. The air pump you choose to run the skimmer is what may make noise. I have a Rena 300 which I am happy with. The cost of the corals :) there is no telling... very rough guess $1,500 - $2,000 purchased $18 to $85 at a time.
HI Reefthuz what an amazing setup youve got its nice to see such stunning work and goes to prove how nice a smaller reef tank can be i have just brought myself a redsea max 130D (130L) .Straight to the point i want a yellow tank but am being quite caucious what do you think? yellow tang 130L
The youtube "Tang Police" would disagree but I say go for it. Pick out a "tiny" Yellow Tang 2" or less and once he gets too big just swap him out at your local fish store. I have had great success with tangs in the Zebrasoma genus in tanks of that size and much smaller. Your LFS can order tiny fish from the wholesalers when available. Thanks for the kind words.
Amazing tank, nice work! What size metal halide do you run (inch wise)? Contemplating wether or not to buy the nano cube metal halide canopy or or an independant halide system to hang.
The legs of the fixture elevate the light 2.25 " off the tank. The higher the light is off the tank the wider the light cone is. I was in the JBJ booth at the Global Pet Expo a couple of weeks ago and saw the 28g quad CF 96w, the 150w 14k halide, and the new 89w LED canopies side by side and the halide canopy was very bright and had good light distribution. If you are considering having your rock structure approach within 3-4 " of the surface then I would consider suspending a unit.
best nano I have seen so far, you got me on craigslist right now looking for one!!! keep up the good work, check out my 125 gal juvenile african cichlid tank if ya like. tell me what you think
i have a salfin tang in my 20 gallon with a clown 3 chromis a 6 line wrasse and a watchman and a hectors goby u got a problemb contact me cause the tank is beautiful
It will keep growing until it dies. I had one get up to about 12 inches in my 1400 gallon once. Start with 1 -1.5 inch fish then move it to a larger tank once it hits 3-3.5 inches. Watch out for the clueless "Tang Police" on here they are ruthless... ha ha
Hello Reefthuz, my name is Joel. First off your doing amazing job on all your tanks. I'm a noob at freshwater tanks and i have never attempted on salt water.......even tho this video makes me want to. But my question is what the difference between a 20 gallon tank and a Nano 20 gallon tank. Also how long should one wait to put life in a salt water tank?????
Thanks Joel. Nano tanks or all-in-one systems come with all of the proper lighting, filtration, and water flow to grow corals and maintain a reef environment. JBJ Nano Cubes and Oceanic BioCUbes are the most popular. All tanks go through a beginning cycling process that takes 7-10 days with live rock in a reef tank and 4-6 weeks in freshwater. Check out aqaurium-outfitters website click fish school then click nano reef if you want to try one. It's a free 6 week instructional.
Nice tank... but what is that Tang doing in there? You have to understand Tangs like to swim in open space... you know better... your fish grew 2 inches in a few years? Definitely going to stunt the Tang's growth. I had my Tang in my 55 gallon starting at 1 inch and he grew much more than 2 inches within a year... You are basically torturing your Tang...
Thanks for the tank compliment. However I disagree. Most fishes with the exception of Gobies and Damsels have greatly reduced growth rates in any closed system under 1,000 gallons compared to the wild. Even many clown fishes do not reach the same size of their wild counterparts in captivity. As opposed to starving a bunch of snails to death all my nano tanks have just a handful of snails and a tiny tang for algae control in them which I always move to a larger tank once they get too big.
A few tips: 1. Most important find one person/store to give you advice. If you ask 10 people a question in this hobby you will get ten different answers. 2. keep the salt level at 1.025. 3. Check the pH,KH and Nitrates every week. 4. Find and use Nutri Sea Water at a local store. Makes a huge difference. 5. Add corals first wait as long as possible to add fish.
Hand pick tiny tangs, angels, etc and they do very well. Keep ur tank at the parameters listed in the info on this video.
That will take some time. The myth about fish growing to the size of the tank is somewhat true in that Nitrates act as growth inhibitors in fish slowing their growth rate. So typically the smaller the tank the more the presence of nitrates thus slower growth. This does not mean the fish is unhealthy. My Regal is 5 yrs old and went from 1" to about 3.5" in this time. If you have one get too big just catch him and swap for a smaller one. Just make sure you start with a tiny one 1-2".
GET A LIFE. FISH POLICE.
DID YOU HEAR THE TANG COMPLAIN.
IT'S ONLY A BABY.
NICE TANK.
NOT SURE ABOUT THE THE SCARY MUSIC THOUGH.
