  • That sure was a lot of salt. That´s not good for your body or your tastebuds

  • I just found your channel today, subscribed and now a college student is going to eat very good :)

  • thats a lot of oil ! still gonna try this tho :L

  • I'm trying this tomorrow!

  • Is it less tasty if I do this on the stove instead of in the oven (I don't have a Dutch oven)? Thanks.

  • Unfortunately I don't have a Dutch oven.

  • @Wiz4rd9 Sounds like you have a better recipe. How 'bout making a video and posting it? I am looking for a recipe that I really like. I haven't tried this one yet, but I am preparing it as I write this. I tried two others that I saw on YouTube, but they just weren't right for me.

  • This is not a lazy mans dinner! what you need to do is: Buy roast. put it in crock pot. Buy mc cormicks roast seasoning and mix it with water. Pour over roast. Put roast on. Two hours later cut up potatoes and carrots and throw them in the crock pot. A few hours later, bam they are done!

  • I just roasted the shit outta some beef!

  • Do your eat the oil?!?!

  • Awesome video. I've always been afraid of the oven (stove is where I'm comfortable) but I'll give this a go.

  • @jakatak69 i just got a cast iron dutch oven for my bday and was wondering if the cooking time would vary any or the temp for that matter. hope to get a reply soon and i love this dish i was borrowing dutch ovens before from friends just to make it lol

  • @xero1xr should be fine. same times and temps

  • Awesome recipe. Probably the best I've ever had while cooking indoors. Thanks a bunch

  • This recipe must have taken quite a bit of time. If you notice the window in the beginning, it's sunny. Yet, at the end, it's dark.

  • You should do a Lazy man's Corned beef.

  • why doese'nt my pot roast look like that when you have it on the stove top? mine has some areas brown and others grey?!?! can anyone please help me with this?

  • Jack, can you do a show on penut butter cookies?

    mine were all crumbly

  • This is the first video of yours I have watched and pressed subscribe at only 4 mins in. So detailed but great at keeping my attention throughout, despite having a plate of food to distract me. Brilliant way of cooking the meat, I've used the same technique for a long time, just without the seasoning (usually cooking for somebody on a low sodium, spice free diet)

  • hehe i wanna show this video to a cow

  • I think the way I make my pot roast is even lazier :p I put a bag of baby carrots in the bottom of my pan, put a frozen roast in and sprinkle with salt. I put one can of beef broth in and enough water to cover the meat. I bake it at 350 for 4 hours, after that I add some potatoes and cook for another 30 mins. I take some of the broth out and thicken it with a little bit of cornstarch and milk. It's really good and comes out looking just like yours.

  • Genius. Did this yesterday night with some potatoe pancake appetizers; it worked smashingly. Much thanks.

  • @JurassicCat I'm so glad you liked it. I still make this dish. It's one of my favorites.

  • Just wanted to say thank you for uploading. I found your videos yesterday and really enjoy them. I just wanted to give a little constructive criticism and mention that if you first dredge the meat in some flour before frying it it will thicken up the juices more into a pleasant gravy.

  • @TheMdamaso very smart. I will try that next time. Thanks.

  • You are so entertaining. What a spirit , and I can tell you love cooking. Thanks!

  • hey.. u said course salt right? will.. is there a difference between regular salt, oidized salt, and course salt... to me salt is salt but if it makes my food taste better i'd rather hear it from someone who knows more..

  • @Syde2585 I got this info from the internet:

Sea salt is a broad term that generally refers to unrefined salt derived directly from a living ocean or sea. Some of the most common sources for sea salt include the Mediterranean Sea, the North Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean (particularly in France, on the coast of Brittany). Sea salt is healthier and more flavorful that traditional table salt.

  • he's like awww F**K ya

  • Where did you get your Dutch Oven? o.o I can't find one like yours...and I want!!! :)

  • @MistressCheii I got it at walmart. It's either $40 or $50 and it is worth it. Get the Lodge brand. They are the originators of cast iron.

  • These videos would be good to torture people (if they showed when the food's done) 0.0

  • Looks salty, was it very salty? Since the stock already have salt in it

  • Hahaha, Pause the Video at 00:42, Even Jack himself will laugh at this xD

  • jeez this is so easy my bf could do this! too bad he refuses to cook tho :(

  • omg did you just put that meat back on a bloody plate you shouldn't do thaaat!! yuck!

  • @mrsfollett omg i know right!!!!!!!! he didnt clean the plate! gross -_-

  • I would like to know what brand of olive oil is best to use...

  • @MegaTombs use olive oil if your going to cook with it. Use extra virgin olive oil if your going to use it cold, like in a dressing. Any name brand will do. I use the store brands in my videos.

  • @jakatak69 Extra Virgin Olive Oil means that its only oil from the first squeezing.. why would you use non extra virgin for cooking?

  • olive oil, olive the time.

  • 10,000th viewer! :D

  • he always get some kind of orgasm.. lol

  • @Dolle28 and how is that a bad thing????

  • @jakatak69

He didn't say it was, Jack :P

  • @Dolle28 lmao

  • You are simply a delight to watch. Thank you for helping out stay-at-home moms like me with your simple but gourmet recipes. I love how you have the list of ingredients and directions in the pull down info so I don't have to write everything down...smart and wonderful...you rock!!!

  • You are simply a delight to watch...thanks for helping out stay-at-home moms like me with great easy recipes like this!!! you rock! I love how you took responsibility to say "if you're young...get help from mom and dad"

  • Awesome video and audio...now the only thing missing is the smell through my speakers! hahahah That would be awesome!...Looks delicious! =D

  • A dutch oven LMAO!!!

  • -Just a small tip, if you used Demi-Glace and Jus at a ratio of 50/50 or 30/70, this recipe would rock ANYONES world ;)

-Also, if you mixed the garlic with the oil to make garlic oil (quite obvious) and lightly rubbed the meat with that first, you could season the WHOLE roast without worrying about the seasonings falling off.

-FRESHLY Cracked black pepper would be a billion times better then the crap everyone uses (no offence :])

-You should try Himalayian Pink Flake Sea Salt, c'est tres bon.

  • @ItsOnlyZeke these are all GREAT suggestions. Thanks. I will try that garlic oil rub. Very smart.

  • @jakatak69 could you add a little flour at the end to thicken the gravy? looks lush!

  • @Unit21100 yes you could. I wanted the Au Jus feel more than the gravy.

  • i don't have a dutch oven so should i use just a regular pan the answer is probably yes, but whatever

  • @cheaperpeeps use a pan that can stand 350 degrees Fahrenheit in the oven. You'll be fine.

  • @jakatak69 oh thanks

  • Omg when u put the fork in the meat I thought I had it in front of me literally ready to eat haha

  • oh man that looks so good

  • Ehy jack could I know what's beef stock and what's its purpose?

  • @ruruio tock is a flavoured water preparation. It forms the basis of many dishes, particularly soups and sauces. Stock is made by simmering various ingredients in water, including some or all of the following: meat, bones, herbs & spices. You can make your own by boiling beef meat and bones.

  • @ruruio BTW, it's used instead of just adding water which dilutes the beef flavor. So cooking in Beef Stock keeps all the flavors in tact.

  • @jakatak69 Thanks for the info. You're kind as always!

  • Do I have to use the Dutch Oven to cook the pot roast? I don't have it and I want to save money, so I can't buy it either.

Anyways, loved the video. :) I actually drooled lol and it seemed as if the smell wafted out of the computer, I got SO hungry

  • @Sparklycuppycakes any pot with lid that can stand up to 350 degrees in the oven. Check with the pot manufacturer. No need for a dutch oven.

  • This is so easy to make if u come from work and ur too tired too make something.

  • That looks unbelievably delicious...

If I could choose a superpower, it would be to be bale to reach into my screen and pull out whatever you're cooking.

  • i heard your theme music on an advertisement for my life .com

  • That looks very delicious :D

  • you know how to cook yet you dont know

how to hold a fork properly?

dont get that part but still pretty amazing

    cooking you pulled there man.

  • @purtha how do you know I am not holding it correctly and your holding it wrong? LOL

just kidding. Sorry. I never said I was classy. :D

  • Thanks Jack for showing this lazy girl your lazy man's pot roast recipe, now I can impress and look like I've done so much work when I've really done hardly anything haha! Genius :D Can't wait to give this a go :) It looks pure yumness!!

  • This is probably your most ambitious "Lazy Man's" episode yet.

  • I just realized that you used sea Salt. That is the best thing ANYONE can do in everyday cooking. Edible sea salt is very healthy for you. Table salt that we buy is bleached NaCl (Sodium Chloride) but when its bleached there is an excess of Na (Sodium) which is EXTREMELY bad for the human body in excessive amounts as well as other agents for "anti clumping" (forgot the proper term) and moisture absorbent agents... Just an FYI...

  • Comment removed

  • Also, if you didn't know salt is considered the cleanser for our body, true is many ways that "Saline" that they use in the hospital is NaCl dissolved in pure water in certain proportions ( units being "mmol/L")...

  • Get a pepper grinder :)

  • I drooled a little... You're awesome Jack.

  • #@$@%@%@#$#$C%@$%XCX@@#$%XC%@#$X@#$@C#$@!#X#$@#$

  • Lol

  • jack i found it hard watching this you wanna know why because it looked so amazing i was drooling and its 4:47 in the morning where i am and i want to go out and buy the supplies to make this and eat it right away yummmmmm

  • i love how u put the roast in a pasta bowl! haha

  • We start our roasts in the morning and eat it in the evening. That is what makes a truly tender roast, it practically falls apart when your fork touches it.

  • cool jack, you were on the front page of youtube....awesome.

  • @CaptainJackOC I was on the front page? Really?

  • an all potatoes special would be good.

  • Hey Jack! I Just Discovered Your Videos After having a bitch fit about not being able to watch food network youtube in canada, lol, i have watched a few of your videos already, and they are pretty good you should do some cabbage rolls, they are goooooooooodddddd

  • Hey Jack if u added some red wine some dried thyme to that broth that flavor level would incress by a whopping 100%

  • I love these simple recipes where there aren't loads of seasonings or complex prep but you still get a delicious high quality dish.

  • Jack, don't you hate when your stirring something with a spoon and you try to take the spoon out but you end up with a glob of it on your spoon?

  • great im hungry now....

  • That Honey Bear to the right side of the video is just CREEPY, its just sitting there staring at me... Think in your next video you can introduce it so I'm not afraid if it will kill me at night lol?

  • "a thing of beef stock"... That's why we love ya Jack :D

  • too much salt...so bad for you

  • Hey Jack, next time you go to make your Lazy Man's Pot Roast, if you want to impart a little extra kick of flavor, try this. Just before you add your onions/mushrooms into the pot, deglaze it with about 1/2 cup of red wine. Also, make sure you scrape the bottom of the pan, all that brown from the meat is called FOND, and it is SO full of flavor. After that, just go on with your with sauteing your veggies, and everything else.

Great video Jack, again. Looks delicious.

  • @300Z31 I have to be totally honest with you. I did throw white wine in with the veggies. I just didn't show it on camera because the recipe didn't ask for it. I just did it anyway.

  • @jakatak69 Very very cool. It definitely adds another layer of flavor in there. Very nice.

  • A DUTCH OVEN!!?!?!?

    xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • you should do some sort of a cheesy pasta or casserole for a future video :)

  • @Kaylawrites search for my lazy man's lasagna. Very cheesy.

  • ooohhh myy god. i want some. now.

  • Your the best jack. You make things so easy to understand. Keep it up!

  • damn that looks just to freaking good!!!

  • looks delicious

  • looks great. but lazy? we do lazy by throughing it in a crock pot for bout 6 hours. i will try this to. good job

  • u should call yourself jack scalfonzy it be sooooo funny

  • @xdaysx just keep sending it back. Trust me, the will cook it right or lose a lot of money doing it.

Be sure to always cut a piece out of the steak before sending back. A restaurant should never bring you back the steak you sent back. That is unacceptable. So by cutting a piece you will be able to identify it when it returns.

  • @calcuttr I love adding wine. Thanks for the extra tips. I always love hearing them. That's how I learn, too.

  • room temp meat cooks more evenly then cold meat. also less cooking time too.

  • briliant =D

  • When i do pot roast i like to have 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar, i know it sounds like alot but after 2-3 hours of cooking you wont taste it. The vinegar hepls make the meat tender. Though i have only done pot roast with pork so i dont know if it will have the same effect on beef. Anyway loved the video Jack!

  • i now know what i am gonna do with that roast in the freezer. Yay!

  • for yuur 100th episode could you do a full english breakfast and full roast for christmas or sunday roast please that would be great i tryed the bison tacos yumm i helped my cousins make them and they loved them thanks for the recipe x

  • @jadefthannah can you send me a full english breakfast. I am not sure what they eat.

  • @jakatak69 a full english breakfast is bacon sausage fried egg mushrooms fried tomato

if you do a full irish you add black and white pudding

both served with toast. baked beans if you wish. theyre both kind of too similar to tell the difference

  • @jakatak69 the full english breakfast has:

    bacon- (any kind)

    sausages-(any kind)

    beans-(any make)

    roasted tomato-1full or 1/2

deep fried bread and or toast-white or brown

    fried egg

    mushrooms

    hash brown

and to drink tea or anything you have in the morning x

  • Jack, would you also be able to do this with a slow cooker?

  • @heoflittlefaith yes. crock pots make the same type of meal. Brown it first then saute veggies then dump all into crock pot and cook all day. NICE!!!

  • If there was any left overs that would be great on toast with mayo.

  • @heoflittlefaith french onion rolls and melted parmesan cheese on top.

  • Jack, have you stopped using the Laze Man Intro?

  • @DrakoNemesis You are amazing. I only used that video intro once. I didn't like it. I am working on a new show opening right now. I am filming that on Aug 1st.

  • @jakatak69 Nice to know you're filming another one! I can't wait!

  • Now if i could only reach out into the screen and grab the meat.....

  • the part when you pull the meat open at the end just makes my mouth water...

jack, why do you have to cook delicious foods every week, it teases me :'(

  • SO MUCH SALT.

  • @Chingsauce coarse salt usually doesn't get into the meat much. most falls off. you can season without it. use minced onions and minced garlic or even red pepper flakes. It's your meal. Tweak it as you need.

  • evry time i hear pot roast im thinking about castlevania

  • i love it when jack seasons his meat

  • you don't thicken your sauce? Looks very watery o,o;. The meat is yummy tho :p

  • @mikachuuu i would have made gravy but didn't want to complicate the recipe for the viewers. Gravy will be another video. Promise.

  • I love your videos! :)

    Keep 'em coming Jack!

  • Jack, that looks absolutely... DELICIOUS. ): * I drooled all the way*

  • Jack I'd really like to see some lazy mans videos that are healthier .. ones that do not involve oils and fatty meat.

  • @shrinkinglaura note taken. Thank you for keeping me moving to other areas.

  • Jack we made this today!I'm not lying! We used pork and veggies. But we injected the roast with garlic before cooking and it was amazin'.Ah Mr.Scalfani you are suh a brilliant man. :)

  • @unstoppable295 please send pics next time. I am so stoked that it came out good.

  • i need this but i dont have the dutch oven and it to lazy to get it

  • @utubeb14 see if your pots can handle 350 in the oven. Any pot with a lid will do as long as it's oven safe. I did the first time without a dutch oven. Still awesome.

  • what no gravy lol? i would make some smash patatoes and alot of gravy!

  • @GaltGhost52JB yes. I know. I did want to make gravy, but didn't want to complicate the recipe for the viewers. That video is coming.

  • how long on each side?

  • @NasalBlast until it's browned and the seasoning is kinda crispy. :D time will differ according to your flame.

  • @Halo3sauer when did he do that from what I saw he didn't.

  • ummmm..... u put the cooked meat in the raw meats juice, vey dangerous

  • @Halo3sauer what are you talking about?

  • @Halo3sauer Wrong. That juice was from the cooked meat the first time I took the braised meat out. it wasn't raw juice. It was rare juice from the braised meat. Go watch the video again.

  • a vegetarian hit the dislike button :D

  • @defect530 I love vegetarians. I need to do another veggie dish for them. Thanks for the heads up. :D

  • @jakatak69 i agree. i have been thinking about becoming a weekday vegetarian, but my metabolism is just way off the charts (i need the fatty fuel). im one of those, eat everything and anything and still weigh 135 lbs. =[

    --SAVE A COW, EAT A VEGETARIAN-- #LOL

  • Are there any alternatives to onions? I'm allergic =\

  • @BaPeZtaBiTcHez do mushrooms and carrots and celery and zucchini. Anything you want to throw in there. eggplant, squash, okra, etc.

  • Woww, I am hungry :O

  • is it me or i can smell it from my PC damn jak stop making me hungry

  • Try a crock pot for this recipe. Sear it as you did, throw in the onion raw and garlic and a can of veg-all some small potatoes, jar of bbq sauce cover and go to bed. When you get up in the morning you have heaven for breakfast.

  • it will be awesome if u can make gravy out of the broth :P:P:P

  • @victor224 I usually do, but didn't want to complicate the recipe.

  • I'm using the leftover liquid for Ramen soups (n_n)

  • @robertoruelas9147 I love when you guys take the recipe and make it something new. You guys are so smart. Ramen. I never would have thought that.

  • I just got a mouthgasm and drooled all over my shirt!

  • Hey jack, great video!

I love pot roasts, definitely popular along with stews here in the UK.

I've got another quick question for you though.

What's your favourite smell when cooking? For me, its got to be when you are cooking/frying onions, I absolutely love that smell! What about you?

  • @Liam892008 I have to say burgers on the grill and bacon in the pan. OMG!!! The best smells ever.

  • If i do tis with chicken do i need to brown the chiicken? Also does this work with lamb?

  • @TheTroubledTroubador yes, brown the chicken. I would cook it with the skin on and then remove skin before adding chicken broth. also, yes, the same method with Lamb.

  • BRILLIANT. ive got my sundays world cup dinner. dutch oven and hopfully dutch champions. haha

  • mmm pulled beef sandwich.

  • I cannot believe you didn't deglase that pot!

There would have been so much tasty flavour coming from the bottom of that pot!

  • @grenouilleCAPSLOCK sorry. I really believe the slow cooking brought all that stuff off the bottom, too. I will deglaze next time.

  • @jakatak69 Hahahaha!

  • nice 2 a week

  • i enjoy your vids you should make 2 videos a week

  • This looks easy and fantastic!

Quick Question: Is this recipe doable with fish? Just Curious...

  • @dnzrx Have not tried it. I would think the fish would fall apart during the oven process. You don't want pieces of fish in the broth. You want it to hold together. This process is to help tenderize the meat. Fish already is falling apart.
