  • this video made me feel guilty of my first few shows T^T

  • @pixielover908 or lucifer.

  • Jack always has something negative to say about Americans as a collective whole, and I don't know what the hell he's talking about because every American show I've seen him play, the whole crowd is rocking and yelling their heads off...

  • @KatoMcKracken cause americans are dumb as fuck? that doesnt mean they cant rock.

  • dead silence i would scream louder than a tween girl at a justin bieber concert

  • only jack could pull off that facial hair

  • i think its time for a white stripes reunion tour.

  • gah, they took off the sound for these. LAME haha

  • wow jack looks a little fat in this video...

  • @kashmir724 lmao he does look a tad tubby

  • Shut up meg!

  • I think Jack looks a little like Johnny Depp...

  • @kashmir724

i think johnny depp isn't as tall as jack. and who the hell is johnny depp beside jack?

  • @kashmir724 but fatter

  • His mustache looks drawn-on:P

  • i liked them alot more before i saw this

  • He seems so sure about what hes saying! I like that, he has a good view and a very true one. Even in the performance he does after this he seems very sure about how he is going to perform that song , at least towards the end when hes more into his guitar!

The girl looks like maybe she dosed on some good ol diacetylmorphine (Herion) when shes playing the drums when they perform.

  • jack was very well camoflauged (sp)

  • She wasn't completely quiet. Meg said "yeah" at 2:11

  • I know exactly what he is talking about, I went to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra in dallas.. and the audience didnt give ANYTHING, i was screaming at the top of my lungs at these amazing performers and people looked at me like I was soposed to be quiet..? o.O

They still gave it their all, but it took away from the expierence..

  • Does Meg know how to talk ???????

    Anyone out there know???

  • how the fuk can u be bored if u are watching the white stripes live

  • LOSE THE MUSTACHE AND BEARD, JACK!!! lol

  • smart dude

  • Please come back to Kansas City Jack White and Dead Weather. I'm sorry it was such a low turn out and pathetic enthusiasm. (you all should have headlined, not the Flamming Lips)

  • I listened to the radio at a friends house in the (background) and only one song caught my attention the hole time i was there,' I had to ask who that song was from a kid told me white stripes..I don't listen to radio music at all, because i hate radio,''but i do like the white stripes.

  • That was a brilliant hypotheses about the

    north American crowds, Smart man.

  • why isn't meg in the kitchen?

  • @ricky52881 You're an idiot.

  • Shut up meg.

  • omg can meg control her excitement....

  • V for Vendetta

  • this dude is awsome

  • You go Charlie.....cant believe i missed this episode

  • meg doesnt say a word

  • SHUT UP MEG!

  • it's kind of funny that jack white is treating this interview so seriously.

he complains that audiences are spoiled today, but rockstars don't fucking challenge the status quo of an interview today like iggy pop and lou reed did

  • Shut up MEG!

  • lol at jack's satanist beard in this

  • Absolutley great artist. Really weird beard.

  • It's awesome that there are bands that actually LIKE playing live...

Jack seems to be the kinda dude that goes up there because he wants to be there, rather than because his manager told him to play or he's getting paid for it. He's there because he wants to be, and I completely agree with what he's saying about the audience being spoiled... ive been to shows where there was almost no energy. sure, it's polite to listen, but common its a ROCK CONCERT!

  • Jack white it is such an inspiration. <3

  • to me thats like going to a dance club and not danceing its like what are you there for, you can drink sure but what if you couldnt are you just gonna stand there the whole time some people need to just loosen up besides if your to scared to start jumping up and down and cutting loose alittle its not gonna matter to anyone else no ones gonna judge you because they'll be doing the same thing

  • he is a really interesting and itelligent man - best wishes to him.

  • Attended a Say Anything show in Austin... I swear to God, 5 minutes before they got on (there were 3 bands before them) the place, maybe 1/3 filled, got so crowded it was astonishing. Every second of their songs we, the crowd, were singing along to every word. The energy was breathtaking, literally. So exciting it got hot VERY quickly. But it's like Jack said, some times you get a good show, some times you get a not so good show. Crowds these days, with certain genres, don't show their emotions.

  • yeah I totally agree. He is so right.. I remember going to a concert.. and their were a few kids in front of me, Not doing a thing, no fist pump no yelling so I just pretty jumped on them and started jumping up and down, and other followed me haha. Your not going to have any fun unless you get into it!!!! Be the screaming girl at the beatles concert, you'll have more fun! :)

  • 0:49 Hahahaha

  • jack's thoughts at that moment are priceless

  • I get what he's saying, but at the same time people pay so much for tickets now a days that I think they should expect to be entertained.

  • this is sooo true. i went to a 311 show and it only seemed that half the ppl there wanted to be there it was sickening.

  • i wish meg would shut the hell up!

  • :L:L

  • @potzer37 Meg almost never speaks, you sir are an asshole.

  • @thepatient08 Pretty sure he was making a joke, because she never said a word.

  • @potzer37 hahahahahahaha!!!!

  • @potzer37

    LOL

  • @potzer37 lmao she should i mean talk talk talk and yet nothing to say

  • Yes they do.

Just kidding, right you are. They have the talent to write what ever types of songs they want, they just choose not to. I mean, they COULD write verse chorus verse material to make them more popular with those hipsters you speak of, but if they did that, Tool wouldn't be Tool.

  • i love meg she got some nice titties

  • @sonofpissjuice Who cares if shes a muscian as LONG AS SHE GOT THEM THAR TITTIES! as if we actually listen to the music !?!?!

  • deranged child

  • its about what your! looking for.. yes there are many people that seem as if they're clearly looking for all the wrong things and not what they want..its sad that things cant be the same.. just keep the passion flowin

  • wow i didnt even know Meg was there

  • sometimes when i listen to the stripes, i start wanting mexican food. i don't know what that means...

  • @KillYourTeeVee yea i do aswell the music makes me want tamales

  • yea lol, i was just thinkin that they dont use fashion as an advrtising tool, it never takes away from the music. The colors are more of just a palette for us to identify them.

  • THe white Stripes are one of the few bands today that perform to perform. They live, and hone their craft for the experience. THey don't hinder their craft with influences outside the music realm like politics or fashion or shameless advertising, They live to perform, and they give me hope for the future of music.

  • @jimalex16 I'm just as big of a White Stripes fan as the next guy, but what do you call wearing the iconic white and red outfits? Fashion if I ever saw it! :p

  • What he is saying though is that the fashion is just so you can kinda see who The White Stripes are. They did that fashion things since they were kickin Detroit's ass in the clubs.

  • @mlsku True! Never thought of it that way. Really dig these guys though, Jack White has gotten 1000x better at guitar since the band first started too! :)

  • I think it was influenced by their De Stilj album....it's a dutch art movement that uses a lot of black, red, and white, squares, like the cover of the album.

  • @julieanne8225 ahh, I see. That is also my favorite album by them. I heard they were going to stop producing copies due to the unauthorized samples in a song. bummer. :(

  • It's my favourite too. I really want Meg to get better so they can come out with new material. That was the rumor last May, but nothing has surfaced yet.

  • I want Meg so bad. It hurts my soul.

  • done gigs and know what he means ...you gotta win oem over or your bon fkin jovi!

  • bon jovi suck. white stripes are way better

  • YEA i KNOW?

  • jack is so legit, if you can't rock out when he's on stage then theirs something wrong with you, imo Being part of a generation with people who can't truly respect good music sucks...like fuckin hipster pricks....all the mainstream music you hear on the radio is shit. When you hear that people can't respect bands like the white stripes, who I admit may be somewhat mainstream, but still they have immense talent and they put forth an effort every single night they hit that stage, its fuckin bs.

  • amen

  • It isn't the mainstream that is bad. There is a reason music is considered mainstream. The White Stripes are mainstream, Tool is mainstream, Radiohead is mainstream and they are all very talented and represent quality. Mainstream is bad when it is all about trendiness and clever marketing adds to promote junk. And that is the bulk of mainstream today.

  • @thespecter2

    Tool's not mainstream...

  • They kind of are. There has been such a negative label placed on the word "mainstream" due to a lot of garbage in mainstream today. But Tool get's national radio play, is critically acclaimed by major reporting outlets, have toured world-wide, have reached tremendous success in music sales and merchandise.... I would easily say they reached popularity. Certainly, not the silicone-injected carrots with lip stick you see on mtv kind of mainstream, but mainstream nonetheless.

  • @thespecter2

I can definitely see where you're coming from. I guess when I think of mainstream, I think of a huge fan base filled with hipsters.

And Tool does NOT have that.

  • @Timmay2177 "he's so legit" "...I admit are somewhat mainstream", you're the epitome of the authenticity-chasing hipster! And you boring miserable fuckers can stop speaking for my generation and what we think about music, if you were around in the 60s you would've been bitching about something and failing to see what was right in front of your eyes. Please either try to enjoy yourself or shut the fuck up.

  • @Timmay2177 Ya blame the hipsters, blame main steam media and music. Everyone has said it before.

  • @Timmay2177 amen, jack if you read this you saved my life.

  • @Timmay2177 the white stripes r legit,they rock!!!

  • Amen Pastyone1... He's my Jimmy Hendrix experience... Phoenix '06.

  • The lad carries a cane and wears a straw hat. Dost he liveth in the early 1900`s? He should sing "Rag time gal".

  • If Jack White covered Rag Time Gal, it would be amazing. For more info, see Stop Breaking Down.

  • jack white -- immensely talented, but he's a weird bastard. Nothing new in the music industry.

  • Your comment makes his statement all the more valid, you think he owes you, lol. If you had ever seen him play live you wouldn't say that, he is one of the few musician I have seen that well forget the crowd and just play for the sake of playing. So to think that he owes you for him sharing it with you is retarded, He is talented, so you either like him or you don't, but he doesn't owe you for sharing it, thats like say a baker owes you cause you bought his bread.

  • I have seen them live, and I'm dying to be part of it again. I want to show Jack and Meg my sweet White Stripes tattoos!! lol maybe I'll get a backstage invite WHO KNOWS?! ^___^

  • @Pastyone1

Then why is he bitching about audience participation? From the sounds of it he could give two fucks about the people paying to see him.

Jack White is kind of the perfect role model for rocker kids, who think music began and ended with the 12 bar blues and the electric guitar. Narrow minded little boys, too young to realize just how much he's ripped off from the 80 years worth of blues that came before him. He put together some cool riffs, but he's only a legend in his own mind.

  • @EuchridEucrow1 If you think he doesn't care about audience participation, then you obviously just talked to someone who heard about this video and commented instead of actually watching it. He said it is a sharing experience. He's saying that audiences get the most out of a show (any show) when they are active participants who bring energy and emotion instead of just sitting back and waiting for the performer to deliver. That lessens the experience for the listener AND the performer.

  • @EuchridEucrow1 And you can't really "rip-off" the blues. Musicians have been using the same blues call and response riffs for decades. If anything, you should be thanking Jack White for introducing all these "narrow minded (sic) little boys" to the history and heritage that made the music they love possible. Blues music (or any genuine music, for that matter) isn't about riffs, it's about emotion.

  • @EuchridEucrow1 Do you play music at all? Typically I find those who criticize musicians for, "ripping off" a style or sound are people who don't actually play music. You know, it's not about the chords you play. I wouldn't say that Weezer's "Sweater Song" is a rip off of Steve Miller Band's "The Joker" but they use the exact same chord structure. When it comes to music, It's how you present it, and the emotions you feel. Mozart wrote things in the key of E. Big fucking deal.

  • DAMN MONO SOUND

  • hes very intellectual. most musicians are. to be creative your mind has to work diferently than most. so u rarely find musician, artists etc who are not well spoken or who cant make u think outside the box...

  • Rock and Roll the meaning:

    -react

    -penis position opinion (marriage rank)

  • huh?

  • he didnt say "akward silence after a BAD joke" he just said "after a joke"! I think maybe the silence could be because...

some people are too stupid to get it!!!!

  • nice

  • is it just me or does jack come across as being a very very intelligent guy?

  • Oh dude no doubt. almost all of his lyrics have so many different meanings, but i think he's even TOO smart sometimes!

  • I think the hat and cane make the outfit.

  • Men Meg White a été po mal utile a s'tenrevue la XD

  • whats with hat and cane ?lol play me off jonnny

  • is it me or can u only hear this through the left earphone ???

  • me too

  • yeah that's true xD

  • Yeah the sound comes mainly through the left earphone. I noticed that too.

  • i got that to :S annoying

love the white stripes tho ;D

  • I really admire Jack White. I think he's a great musician; but I don't think I'd like the man in person.

  • i don't agree, i think he would be nice.

he might not say much tho :P

  • for all those who think meg is a bad drummer, you are unable to realize the basic purpose of the White Stripes; Simplicity is the point here. It's a duo. It's minimalistic all the way. Meg is a decent drummer and that's ok for the stripes. Whoever says that she is an inadequate player, misses the point. Jack White, you're a Legend.

  • ok i guess iam not up to speed, but are they brother and sister?

  • nope. They were married, Jack took Meg's name. Then they divorced but kept the band going, and Jack married someone else.

  • NO SET LIST?? what a bad ass

  • some johnny depp going on...

  • Although I love the town, it is my home, but I swear Jack is referring to Chicago. It is just as much our responsibility to GIVE BACK to a performance and help create that energy that makes shows so memorable for both sides of the stage. Put down the fuckin' cigarette, slam a drink, smoke a bowl, and GET THE FUCK UP!!! or get down w/ your bad self.....

  • does meg ever say anything ever?

  • he asked the question to jack

  • they are both in my fantasy band

  • There is much better drummers than meg though

  • yeah but i like megs sound/personality

  • she started playing the year they got together in 95 i think or whenever it was, the sound they get from the band that makes it so unique is her childish simple drumming, i like it personally, yes there are so many better drummers, but her drumming and his vocals and guitar make these 2 who they are

  • I want saying it sounded bad, I was just wondering why she would be someones favorite drummer.

  • oooo i c sorry :)

  • Sure, there is always someone better. But that's the whole reason that Jack wanted Meg to preform in the white stripes with him, because of the way that she played the drums so simple and innocently.

  • I completely agree with what jack is saying in this intervue, I feel like thats exactly how people feel towards music nowadays...too bad.

Meg is always in the background didnt even know she was there until the end. She's just as much apart of the band as he is, hope she had her say in there somewhere. Her druming is really under-rated and gives the white stripes their unique sound.

  • i love how hes dressed here. he totaly fits in with ALL the other people on this show. lol

  • Wrong question. The right question is: does anyone care?

  • People actually boo'ed Jimi Hendrix when he didn't light his guitar on fire..

  • Is this true, is there somewhere I can see this? U'd think people would come for the 'music' not the guitar fire/spectical.

  • Jack White said that he liked using Meg because she's a very simple drummer that he could play off of without complications.

  • Agreed, The White Stripes are a back to the Basic's type of band. Jack has said it's about simple drums, catchy riffs and lyrics. So what if meg isn't the best drummer she FITS!

  • And men called tripthelightfilm should go back to the dark ages.

  • Wait, what age is this? I thought...

  • Jack White is polish.

Pozdrawiamy Ciebie Jack z Ojczyzny Twojej Matki!

  • so that explains the Orthodox Cross he's wearing...

  • Jack White....

    Jack Black....

  • lol u became my friend of the day

  • For some reason I was watching this and wondering if Jack White would be as famous if he had a receding hairline...don't know why I thought that...but my answer is probably not, sadly. Just the world we live in.

  • I agree that, that is indeed the world we live in but for some reason I do think Jack could over come it. Maybe it's because he is not a sex symbol first? Any sex symbol status comes from the music which really is pretty innovative and inspiring. So yes lets hope that anyone who gets away with wearing shirts like that or a little devil mustache and beard can shave his head and rockout only to be well received.

  • thats a weird thought

  • I think it came about because I was at an open mic night thing and there was an awesome singer there but his hair...well it was quite thin and the whole thing about wondering if he would ever have the chance to be as big as Jack White or would it hold him back? I don't know, it's kinda weird.

  • I once saw an interview with an old hollywood producer. He was asked something about how they kept certain stars like Sinatra big for so long into their years. He said (frankly and as if it was a given) that it was no problem for male stars.. who kept all their hair.

Some mention of a few equally big (at the time) crooners who had gone bald and therefore disqualified their attractiveness.

We are (sadly) a superficial society even when it comes to musical performance heh

  • i hate dead crowds

  • I don't think I want to meet the person that likes dead crowds.

  • Don't watch any videos from AM Ring then.

    Or Europe altogether.

  • Haha.

    So true.

  • it depends where you're playing...i think he's right, though

  • why does he have a pimpcane

  • If it wasn't the truth there wouldn't be so many problems with the youth today .

  • Meg talks in another interview. Wow, no set list? awesome.

  • Amen brother! The truth dammit!

  • SOME REAL WORDS...

  • Meggie is SOO quite never heard her talk EVER!

  • THE STASHE IS FUCK, ASS..

  • haha ,what do u mean?

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!! someone was ice barriging rock crabs
