  • I purchased gas mask they are Israeli gas mask how do i know they are really Israeli gas mask and the filter came with it i don't see an expire date on the filter just a number that says 151 the mask has a triangle shape design can someone help me please

  • they are a pain to wear but worth it when CS or worse is in your breathing air. i would say get new flutters if this one has them. its a thin rubber diaphram. i went with m 15 military mask. the only thing that worries me is how outdated all of them are. i mean when they was made. would be nice to be able to get 2012 manufactor filters at least. the cost of the fancy gasmask out there is mind numbing high. great vid, thankyou

  • It does not protect from NBC ( nuclear, boi, chemical,) i think it only protects from dust and teargass o_O

  • @aza9825 It doesn't protect you from aliens nor from armor-piercing bullets. It is an activated charcoal filter so it protects from all kinds of chemicals and toxins. It is also a particulate filter, so it filters out biological and radiological particles, except for the smallest particles. It is not perfect but it provides a great deal of protection from all kinds of threats (except those aforementioned.)

  • @thenewsurvivalist Hi I heard they ship fast? How was yourrs?

  • u know if they make international ship?

  • @TheJebus88 No they don't but surplus gear is available in many countries. Look around.

  • @thenewsurvivalist ok thank you!!

  • not that mask another one

  • i already have one

  • i got i new for 1€

  • @HOWYOUDOINGMRCOOKIE the finnish mask

  • just a review on mine, didnt know about yours haha

  • i love your show great info thanks

  • When i got mine Finnish Protective mask, i only had to pay nothing... they where sent all for free to Sweden and you could do how many orders you wanted, but this was a long time ago. I cannot remember site but i guess it was some kind of free gift or something. But the Finnish stuff is very very good. Ordering these for any price is a good deal :)

  • Don't you need to be completely shaven to wear a gas mask?

  • @hockeybrat95 No not really. I don't find it to be a problem at all, but to much beard and it will. But you need to have short hair or it won't seal at all :) With me czech protective mask i don't have any problem at all, it covers more then just the shin down.

  • you are awesome! if the apocalypse comes and you travel to the middle, come find me, my posse welcomes you

  • Are these the same models that are available on BudK?

  • @JFKRFKMLK33 You can get these new masks grade 1 condition with new filters, but alas with no carrying bag, for $12 each at cheaperthandirt com. However, if you want the filter adapter to use NATO filters they are $8 at CTD, whereas they are 5 for $25 at Maine Military.

  • SANTA CLAUS

  • I wouldn't trust surplus in the NBC department of prepping. Especially the filters. Get ones you know that are guaranteed to be unopened brand new and unexpired from Approvedgasmasks, Nbcgasmask, or Proki.

The gas masks are okay even if surplus and nothing's broken. The Finnish one would not be my choice. I'd rather go with ones that are new (some surplus carry new masks like an M95 or MSA or a Scott), or a more modern one like a US M40 or SKorean K1 or Israel M15 or Civilian version.

  • theres a site called aproved gasmasks but they sell same things as other cheaper sites....can i use an old mask with a 2004 nbc approved filter?

  • These are great masks. I've used mine, while dealing with concentrated acids, like sulfuric and nitric acids.

  • hope you not planning on these being effective with anything but smoke and maybe some chemical agents but forget any bio use...these old surplus gas makes DO have expiration dates and the canisters do too...

  • @CPLBSS88 These filters are perfectly fine for chemical, biological and radioactive particles. Expiration dates are arbitrary and mean nothing. What matters is that they have been perfectly sealed since their manufacture. Biological agents are particles. These are particle filters that last practically forever and activated carbon which, as long as it is not exposed to chemicals or air, has an indefinite shelf life. These filters are sealed & will work as well as the day they were manufactured.

  • @thenewsurvivalist Not what I was taught in the corps; my SGT. was previously a 5711...If they are fine then why would the Fins dump them and manufacture new? They expire because the seals and diaphragms break down over time. Some canisters can be very harmful when past exp. date...

  • @CPLBSS88 The rubber, seals, etc. are easy to check & are in excellent condition. There were filters made around the 1940's that contained a material that broke down & became toxic. This has not been a problem since about the 50's or 60's I believe but the rumors still persist that the same problem exists up to this day. That is not the case at all and hasn't been a problem for decades. These, and all filters sold today that I am aware of, come from the 90's or later & do not present a problem.

  • @thenewsurvivalist I have a Avon SF10 from 1995 in new great condition will that work vs bio chem and nuke?

  • I have three of these and I figured out you have to remove the rubber plug that covers the nose holes inside of the mask in order to allow air to flow freely from each breath you take within the mask. I read somewhere that you must remove the rubber plug that is over the drinking hole. Is this true? I've wondered how one would drink while wearing this model. Would you know?

  • @EquipaPatriot I never had to remove any rubber plugs. I didn't know that this one was designed to allow you to drink with it on. I know that it requires a special drinking tube which I have never seen for this one. But I don't know I'm no expert on these.

  • What do you plan on using the mask for

  • @M1919A Emergencies which call for a gas mask. What are you going to use your fire extinguisher for? I don't have a crystal ball. If I knew what was going to happen I probably wouldn't need a gas mask because I'd be bugged out 100 miles away.

  • @thenewsurvivalist what do you want it for CS gas or real chemical

  • @M1919A I want it for any emergency which would require a gas mask. I realize that there are better masks, but we make do with what we can afford based on our priorities. As I said, I don't anticipate needing a gas mask, so putting a lot of money in them is not a high priority. This one will have to do.

  • Very nicely done, Doc. I currently have the OM10 masks but I don't like how the filters are not readily available. I like the idea of the Finnish gas masks but I am a leftie; any suggestions on a diecent and economical mask?

  • @ILPrepper I'm not an expert on this subject and have no experience with other types but it seems that one with a central mask would be the best option. Go to a store and see if you can check out a few types personally.

  • @ILPrepper I believe there are some russian models available that have a hose attachment so the filter can be placed lower and away from the face

  • @siksthrillz Thanks siksthrillz. I've seen those and it's something I'm going to look into a bit more. Stay safe

  • be careful with the mask cause even tho it is new it is from the 1970s

  • @whelenvortex It's actually from the 90's. The rubber is just as flexible and pliable as a brand new one. These are in perfect condition.

  • @thenewsurvivalist ok because i have one too and thats what i found about it

  • I should have watched this before I went and bought my local. I paid WAY WAY WAY too much.

  • i got some web gear from Maine Military Supply today

  • Great masks for the price indeed. I picked one up with a filter today at the local gunshow for only $11 brand new.

  • can a gas mask be worn with a heavy beard like yours

  • @cassanoa Yes it can. But will it make a good seal? Probably not. Will it be sufficient? Depends on how thick and obnoxious the gas is. Better than nothing I'm sure.

  • reminds me of the old wisemen.....

  • Go to centerfire systems.com I'm telling u people tht it is a good website

  • Does anybody know where I can find a gas mask? They are sold out everywhere I looked.

  • People people... If u look at that websites page and look up finnish gas mask. The price for ONE of those is $20.00 and it only comes with ONE gas mask filter. If u go to centerfire systems.com they have the same exact thing with chemical burn stuff, chemical gloves, a thing for cleaning the mask, and a BETTER bag. trust me, go to the website and go check it out

  • The Gas Mask and all other CBRNe Equipment were the first things to buy on my list. The reason being is if you look at it like a WROL situation, the Government might not be able to keep the Nuclear Plants with Fuel to Power there back up water pumps to keep them cool. Cauzing and explosion and radiation to go everywhere. Food And Water will be avaliable, but will a gas mask? You can scavenge houses of your dead neighbors if you have a gas mask during a cituation like this. Things to think about.

  • @KentuckySurvivalist

Anyone considering purchasing a mask should do some research and understand what a mask does and does not protect you from. In a type of situation like kentucky describes for instance, a mask isn't going to do much for you if you don't have a full NBC suit of some kind to go with it. There are also plenty of chemicals out there, weaponized or not, that can act through exposed skin. etc etc.

If you're already investing the money, may as well get as full a kit as possible.

    WORDS TO LIVE BY!!!!!!!!!

  • hey how much was the mask?

  • Can you show us how to clean and disinfect the gas masks after use?

I got a gas mask and the manual says to clean and disinfect it or perspiration and saliva can dry and cause malfunctions.

It's weird b/c the manual says to clean it but doesn't really tell you how.

Can you show us a video on the proper way if you know how?

  • @youknownoyuno All you need to do is wipe it out with a rag using warm, soapy water. Remove the filter first because you don't want to get water in it. To prevent the rubber from breaking down and drying out over time you can use some kind of rubber conditioner such as Armor-All if you want, but this isn't necessary. Be sure that it is completely dry before stowing it away.

  • @thenewsurvivalist Do you think baking soda might work instead of the soap? (I personally don't like soap). I've read that baking soda kills bacteria and fungi. Can I dunk my mask into a water, baking soda solution then leave it out to dry in a cool place indoor?

But now that I think about it, the baking soda might dry up inside and mess up the internal components...

    Any suggestions?

  • @youknownoyuno Baking soda leaves a residue. Soap is your friend. It is anti-bacterial. (I'm not talking about anti-bacterial soap, which I don't like. I mean plane old fashioned soap.) There are many kinds of soap-liquid, solid, natural, perfume-free, natural lye soap, etc. I'd find a soap you can live with. Soap has many uses and I think it is one of the items that survivalists/preppers will need the most. If you don't have it when the SHTF, you are going to have a hard time. Soap is hygiene.

  • @thenewsurvivalist Thanks for the info. I'll be getting myself some of these natural soaps.

So you think dunking the mask in soapy water is okay? Or, should I just wipe it?

  • @youknownoyuno Yes you can dunk it (without the filter of course.) If you were the only person using it, and if it wasn't too nasty, I think wiping it out would be sufficient. Let it dry well before putting it away.

  • @thenewsurvivalist Can I ask you one more question?

Will the expiry date jump to 6 months after the top, twist-off cap have been removed and added onto the mask?

It says on the manual that if you open the caps of the filter, throw it out after 6 months.

If the bottom pull-off cap had not been removed while attached to the mask for a quicker donning in an emergency case scenario, will the expiry date shorten or will it stay the same date as the one written on the filter?

  • "Survival Doc" said at 2:38 that the Swiss gas mask filters have Spanish printed on the casings, but this is untrue.

The exterior casings of the Swiss gas mask filters actually have embossed labeling in German, French, and Italian, because those three languages are the primary spoken languages of Switzerland. "Survival Doc" likely just confused the printed Italian on his Swiss filter's casing with Spanish, since both languages are somewhat similar in appearance.

  • Do not have a beard when using gas masks. If you do, the gas you are trying tp protect yourself from will leak through your beard and the mask.

  • Just recived them. They work very well, thanks!

  • @dougluvn Yes, they will protect from poisonous gases. These are charcoal filters. That's what they are primarily for.

  • Nice video Doc! but theres a way you can open the canister without messing anything up. just cut the rubber as described.. and learn about the filter as much as possible from there.. when your done, you can reseal it with box tape (NOT DUCT TAPE) then put the sealed rubber canister into a vacum seal bag.. easier to get into and it stays fresh as ever.. anyways thanks for the vid..

  • Hey Doc, Good video as usual. Just one point tho,you probably know this, facial hair of more than 24 hrs.growth decreases the effectivness of the mask because it wont seal properly against the skin. Just in case some didn't know. Looks like you and I are in trouble. LMAO : )

  • The fact that you were talking/breathing while wearing the mask, without removing the seal on the filter, would suggest that you didn't have a good seal...

  • @randude1 The mask has a voice box apparatus that is designed to allow you to talk . Also, I wore it for less than a minute because I wasn't getting much air. Additionally, I was wearing the mask very loosely just so that I wouldn't have a seal because I didn't want to open the filter, to keep it in new condition. Once you put the mask on you pull the 6 straps tightly in order to form a seal around your face. I did not pull these at all to leave it loose. I was demonstrating how the mask looked.

  • Doc,

Thanks for all you do. May I add some points to this. First off it is imperative that you find out what these filters are rated for. These could be training filters good for CS Gas (Tear Gas Baiscally) or other minor gases. You MUST have a filter that does NBC (Nuclear Bilogical Chemical) Also, just because a Filter has not been opened does not mean it is still good. If it has expired by many years, it could be unable to perform., in some cases even toxic. Please check into this. TYVM

  • ive used them before, ya they are good no problems yet. They are patriots by the way so they make the effort.

  • Great Video, Thanks

  • The one guy who Disliked this, probably is a left-handed shooter.

  • Great Review Doc! Thanks for the video! Sounds like they are good to order from! I'll check them out! They look nice and fresh. (the rubber)

    Thanks, Rich

  • Shame they don't sell gas masks outside the USA.

  • thanks for the great info I also have a beard not quite as nice as yours though, do they seal well enough with a beard? I was also wondering are all mask the same or is there some things they will not filter out? thnaks

  • @artifacts1000 Judging by the way the air was flowing when I breathed, it seemed to seal around the beard okay but I'm sure not as sealed as it would be if I was clean shaven. I guess it would depend on how offensive and how dense the chemical agent would be. Wearing the type of hood that closes around your face (around the mask) with a drawstring would be helpful & necessary I'm sure and in most cases I think this would be adequate. It would certainly be MUCH better than not protection at all.

  • @thenewsurvivalist You can do a seal test on the mask by takeing of the filter, putting the mask on tightly then take your hand over the filter hole and breath in. If you can feel air coming in anywere around the mask you do not have a seal. I work in a chemical plant and have used many types of fresh air and gas masks for many years. You will never get a good seal on any mask with a beard. Even if you get it to seal just standing in one place when you start to move it will leak.

  • @thenewsurvivalist I know a fireman who said he got a better seal with a beard...when the higher-ups finally banned facial hair he found it more difficult to get a seal and eventually quit the crew.

  • @thenewsurvivalist at our CBRN training at some stage of threat you have to shave daily maybe 2x on a day

to keep a good seal on your mask, also use the 2 top straps put em to a good size and never touch em again, use the 2 lowest straps to make your CBRN mask lose of tighten it then

  • I like the website, I agree for a surplus website they have very fair prices.

  • cool video

  • you will not be able to get a good seal with facial hair.

  • @TheDVDGamer That is so true. It's also a bit tricky to get a gas mask on easily if you have a lot of hair on your head too. That's probably part of the reason why most military forces require their men to be clean-shaven and have crew cut hairstyles.

  • Good point Survival Doc, its easy for people to get caught up in NBC prepping, but got to start with the ‘boring basics’

  • I have been to the physical location of this store. It is awesome and good people.

  • thanks for the info!

  • Looks like some high quality masks ! Thanks for the info

  • i have bought those but in order to fit new nato filters i need a reducer . i can not get any in the uk for love nor money . ebay seller i saw wont deliver to yhe uk . any one know of any uk suppliers

  • @heidisweep

Never seen any on a UK site, it's worth trying actual online shops in the states, they will usually ship to the UK no trouble. Otherwise might have to cut your losses and get an S10, if you do you want to shop around though, some sites will try charging £80+......

  • @triplejacked thanks mate

  • opening the filters are a pain, i suggest using a multi tool with the wood saw. the position of the filter is very important. ever try firing a rifle with the filter in the front man it is awkward.

  • Thanks for the tip, does the mask seal with your beard? I don't want to shave mine off unless I have to, but there might not be time.
