0:40 to 1:07 is touching; a perfect Christmas dream: Santa coming with presents, the beautiful music, all of it. The kid looks so happy too, he must be not even 3 years old I'd say.
this is what happens when you get on Santa's bad list, kids
It would be amazing to see a stereoscope 3D version of City Of Lost Children. This movie is scary, but I think there is a happy ending, thankfully. I suppose Johnny Depp would make a great actor for one of the parts in a 3D version of this story/film. Looking forward to it.
@coolduderyan07 I agree.. and unfortunately, sadly, there are real kids that are subjected to this kind of emotional cruelty. This movie does have as happy as an ending I can think it could. It's kind of like the story of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens, which would also be great to do in 3D stereoscope. the story can become even more alive with in 3D, and touch emotions and feelings in 3D.
@robertandshana1 I like that that this film had a minimum on dialogue, and did more with communicating by body and facial language, to convey information, feelings, thoughts, and ideas. They did a great job with graphic/visual effects of that time. It would be interesting to remake this film in 3D. That would be so amazing. I can imagine Johnny Depp playing one of quirky characters with some kind of Steam Punk accesories on his head and over his eye. It would be alof of fun to make and watch.
i'm just asking a question for the filming of this scene : how the directors succed to make the children cry ? it seems weird that a children could cry with a lot of santa claus in his bedroom ...
@DonoLink I think the crying would be more likely because of the change in the musical tone becoming more darker and more intense, along with the morphing of the world into the unexpected shapes and quantities of odd Santa'a... and having no feeling of security in what would be the child's bed in thier bedroom?
@MegaDjmatt that is interesting. It makes sense that that person would have been selected to produce some sound for this dream sequence. Dreams are one of those strange and interesting parts of human existence. Film with good sound can convey a sense of what it can be like to experience a nightmare.. or even wonderful dream, like some scenes in Avatar.
Bwah hah hahaha YisYISS Bad children git NO toys from SANTAH!!... Just reigndeer Poop in your stocking YIhhhhssss WHat STINKY it christmas it shall be! >:}
This scene is just so great. How it begins all dreamy and hopefull and filled with childish joy and then gradually turns into a full fledged nightmare...
@duke347 what would be interesting is if in the story the nightmare makers potion began to lose effect, and the dream would morph from happy beginning, to dark/scary middle, then morphs back to happy, and the kid wakes up, not crying, but puzzled by the oddity of this dream. Have you seen the movie Five Corners? for some reason this scene reminds me of this. And oddly, or not, it also reminds me of Peter Pan.
@duke347 When I first saw this movie and film it was like the second coming since I saw BRAZIL the first time. But this opening simply took my heart and mind into another place. It felt like pure magic happening before my eyes. The type of dreamy bliss one feels as a child was captured perfectly as it slowly creeps into a true nightmare as disturbing as any I felt as a kid in my own .dreams. It was brilliant filmmaking and writing. It is truly one of my most beloved films of all time
