  • In the States we've been watching the Thai Mahler revolution with great interest. Thanks so much for posting these two side by side. I would have to say that the Yazaki is more energetic and rhythmical but the Sucharitkul seems to dig more deeply into Mahler's dreamy inner world. So IMO the Sucharitkul interpretation is closer to real Mahler. Yuen isn't singing from memory like Starick, but her voice is more right for this music and her high pianissimos are gorgeous. What do others think?

  • I''ve just posted the SPO's performance of this same movement as a video response because to me, one of the most exciting things about what is happening in Thailand is that for the first time, Mahler is entering the standard repertoire. You can actually look at different interpretations and contrast them and see different artists' viewpoints. This is a truly exciting time to be in Bangkok....
